Wow, we should definitely meet up sometime. I'm in Erie, and my daughter's dentist is in Twinsburg.

Next Cleveland/Pittsburgh magic event type thing/etc I'll definitely ping ya, if nothin else.
I'm often spending weekends with my folks a little south in the Canton area.

How close are you to Cedar Point? I usually go over there for Colossalcon every summer.

Oh. You're like an hour and a half east of me. That's a pretty doable trek.

That's like 12 hours away. A little less doable. XD

My stomping grounds is south-central PA, so I'm within reach of pretty much every non-Canada place mentioned.

Has anyone else seen Legion (the FX series - it's currently on Netflix in NZ)?

I got opinions I gotta share.

I dont feel like doing a whole new thread just for this one question, but how many unique lands you feel are needed in a Field of the Dead deck?

Ideally you want a true singleton manabase, but I'd wager 75% uniqueness is good enough. Any less and you gotta wonder if the juice is worth the squeeze for a fistful of zombies.

I think it's more complex than just a number. If you're playing 5c with a lot of basic ramp, even if half your lands are basic, you're looking pretty okay since 5 different basics + FotD already has you at 6. Whereas having a monocolor deck with only 1/3 basics is more likely to slow you down I suspect.

Its 3 colors (Abzan) and I was thinking if 27 unique lands(+FOTD with 5 fetches) I'm wondering how much more I need to make FOTD worth it.

Well the other side of the equation is equally important- how useful is the token generation? Are you a landfall token deck with multiple strong overruns? An aristocrat deck looking for fodder? Or are you a combo deck only using tokens as chump blockers and maybe an alt alt alt wincon?

Humm, interesting question, I was under the understanding the every deck is a possible FOTD deck.

It's Karador, I'm shifting it to care a bit more about lands, with a package of land recursion. I don't want to miss land drops, and perhaps hit more than one a turn, it's just value

I don't think I'd run Field even in your lands focused Karador list. I don't think you can adequately capitalize on the tokens and would, over a long enough period of games, lose more because of the ETB tapped clause and the colorless mana than win because of the tokens. On the other hand, if you go more sac oriented than you were in your current list, it could very well be worth it.

don't forget the modern/legacy trick of making half your basics snow.

Having played FOTD in Legacy a lot, it's a lot easier to turn on then you might think.

Having played FOTD in Commander a lot, it's a lot less impactful then you might think.
All cards are bad if you try hard enough.

Important decks: Ebondeath, Dracolich, Zask, Phelddagriff
Other: Karrthus, Eris, Emiel, The Blessed, Ruhan, Kellan, Liesa, Galadriel, Orca, Sauron, Thantis, Rukarumel, Sisay, Stickfingers, Safana, Thantis, Dihada

My experience has been generally the opposite. I've had it removed multiple times, and it has straight up dominated games for my MW deck. Some of that is Wanderer giving the tokens haste being problematic, but overall the impact it has on a game is pretty absurd for a colorless land - compared to any other colorless land, it's pretty much the best.

That said, my playstyle is strongly geared toward fetchlands for one reason or another so I tend to do a lot of shenanigans with them.

I think Field of the Dead is a good card but I tend to run all the fetches if I am running it. You generally want token / swarm tactics to be your wincon or be really hard up for some chump defenders for it to make sense though. I don't really have a hard and fast of when I run it but I would say in general I only run Field in maybe 1 in 5 decks but my experience is also thrown off by the fact that I play a lot of mono colored decks and its generally harder to run it in mono color.

I play Field of the Dead in Yarok, the Desecrated (yeah yeah, sue me) and it does a lot of work. A good three-color mana base is more than enough to support it, and then half of my basics are snow.

This was actually a couple of weeks ago (hadn't really had time to drop by), but I finally got a fully-foiled 99 deck (decided to just trade-in that bunch of Mindbreak Traps that I never used and would probably not have the convenience to sell off at peak pricing anyway for the final piece, the Wooded Foothills|KTK, I really wanted the KTK one in particular since I use Tarkir "snow" basics and there's no guarantee they'll reprint the same art whenever they decide to reprint anyway).

Yes, it's 99 because I had Animar altered way back (more details in the deck thread) and can't be bothered with getting a foil now (I'm not feeling the newer art and the original foil in A25 isn't exactly cheap or accessible locally). It's been like 7 years (late-2015) when I had the card altered as well as set up my suite and set out to foil my decks. That being said, I have personal rules which forbid planeswalkers from being foil, so Animar might be the only deck that's 99% foiled, since it runs no planeswalkers (and now having foiled out, there's disincentive for adding them even if good ones come out). Fitting, especially when I consider it my flagship deck.

It's by no means finished (we all know EDH decks can never be finished), but I thought it'd be nice to have a snapshot of exactly how the deck looked like at the first point of "fully foiled completion" at least.

Naturally. It was utterly winmore of course, but sometimes you just want to have fun and see what you can do.

My partner and I won tickets to see Hamilton tonight and afterward, we're going to meander down the riverwalk to watch fireworks and ring in the new year.
