Lobelia, Defender of Bag End - Getting What's Mine

I'm playing mono black and only running 10 pieces of removal. I'd like a medal please.

Nevermind, 11 with Spine. 12 with Mauling. I'm only human, after all.

Still a hell of a lot better than my future Shelob, Dread Weaver build.

Lobelia is a Gonti-esque build, but whereas Gonti wanted big mana, Lobelia's freecasting but requirement for artifacts means she focuses more on eggs than rocks. You can also use those eggs to drain for life when you run out of better things to do. Might be too heavy on nonbasics at the moment, but I don't think a coffers package really does enough work and there's a lot of solid utility lands for the sac/recur/make artifacts modes of the deck. Plus a couple to generate any-color mana in case we need to activate off-color abilities.

I think there's a couple cards from LTR that would make sense in the deck (Lembas/Wizard's Rockets) but since those are part of my set-commander collection until next set I'm not going to mess with it. They aren't lifechanging or anything, just decent extra eggs.

That's not a bad idea - it's basically 1 free artifact per lobelia cycle, plus it makes it easier to sacrifice her. Might even be worth running Liquimetal Coating.

Got to play a couple games last night. Lobelia won both of hers.

First one was a little lame - both opponents were pretty stuck so I used Spine of Ish Sah to control the game pretty effectively. Afterwards, Jon acted like I'd brought a cEDH deck because I "kept exiling everything".

Second game should have been explosive since both opponents had bomb-heavy decks, but I hardly hit any of them despite using corpse dance to pull a ton of cards. The ending was super close, everyone down to single digits with Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded in play, but I managed to finally hit a decent bomb dragon while my opponents bricked and snag the win.

Playing with Jon can be...challenging. He seems to really hate me playing his cards, and no matter how much I try to explain to him that it's not really "theft" if they're coming off his deck. In fact he always acts as though milling cards (in whatever fashion) is harming his draws - "how am I supposed to win when you're taking/removing all my good cards?" etc. He also got very upset when I played his own Dragonlord Silumgar to steal his commander, and insta-conceded when I played his own Fall of the Thran saying it was a BS card. "You put it in the deck" I pointed out. "Well that doesn't mean I was going to play it" he said. %$#% what?

Anyway, maybe the lesson I have to take here is that any kind of theft, regardless of where it's from, is going to upset Jon and I should just avoid it. Which is a bummer, since I really like the variance of decks that rely on opponents cards. But we mustn't wake the baby.

Are any artifact lands worth it? I doubt having artifacts out is a problem, and they do open up your lands to more removal. Treasure Vault especially seems sweet, and makes Revel in Riches slightly more realistic.
