Yesterday I was playing some games against lesser power decks and this person asked me not to play Collector Ouphe and it was fair enough, it was a heavy artifact deck and he is new to the game so I took it out alongside other cards and I sided in a Gruff Triplets someone had just opened. I'll tell you, there is a certain charm to this kind of midrange magic where you are just drinking something and swinging 18 power creatures at each other without worrying much

Screw them anyway. I ordered from them a handful of times and always had some kind of problem. I am concerned about how long the player base can absorb the fire hose of releases and endless variants.

My past 4 days:

-Had booked a non-refundable hotel for a last-minute snowboard/ski trip before the season ends
-Suddenly started feeling sick the day before we were supposed to leave
-Go do my paper run feeling terrible but there's nobody to cover for me
-Need to take a piss at 4AM, park the car by a boat ramp, accidentally fall off it and bang myself up pretty decently
-Wake up in the afternoon assuming I'll need to cancel but shockingly feel pretty decent
-Drive 6 hours to get to the mountain, getting there late, find out my laptop that I've had repaired twice STILL doesn't work so all I have is my phone
-Barely sleep because the bed is a trampoline and I'm still kinda fevery
-Snowboard all the next day
-Sleep a bit better
-Snowboard all the next day, get brutally humiliated trying to ride a stupid T-bar lift and twist my knee
-Drive 6 hours to get home, getting there late
-Sleep 3 hours
-Wake up, do my paper run, it takes 6 hours because I'm going slow for my knee
-Drive down to Auckland (1 hour), catch a ride (2 hours) to a microlight instruction seminar
-Drive back except my ride is also tired so he makes me drive
-Get home
-Can finally relax except I feel like a zombie
-@TheAmericanSpirit and @TheGildedGoose are at each others throats

Now I know why the name of the show is "Doctor Who". Considering how many episodes of television bear that name, it's kind of amazing how banal it is. I do find myself vibing decently with the classic show though. Years of MST3K has prepared me for the low-budget 60s schlockiness.

A major MTG retailer here in the NL sells the set for €230 (presale), which is about $242. I prefer to buy singles only, since I brew my decks mostly myself (even if I eye a precon commander I usually just brew up a list myself). Last precon I bought was the Adaptive Enchantments one with Estrid, the Masked.

Weird, in most ways we NZers get ripped off pretty hard on buying magic cards, but we're getting much better deals on these precons. At least from my LGS (which is also a big box store...it's kinda weird).

Also idk what it is with google, but my VPN does absolutely nothing to help me see US prices. Maybe that's not how VPNs work? Either way it's damn annoying.

Anyway there's enough mechanically unique singles in these things that buying them all individually is a fool's errand. There are a few that are unplayable, but the vast majority, unfortunately, are.

The secret is to only buy the cards you are currently planning on playing. Maybe in the (very) long run I'll spend more, but it's unlikely, (truthfully, Cyber Conversion and Everybody Lives! are the only two that I currently want, I could see myself wanting Quantum Misalignment, Gallifrey Falls, and Ominous Cemetery someday, but that's a later problem).

Also, if I do get the itch to try one of the commanders, for 1-3 games before inevitably losing interest:

You can already do that. Just go to the "attachments" tab on the reply page (below the main text box, to the right of the "options" tab).

Bleh, I hate proxying. Also it doesn't work so well for when I'm building from my collection - if the card isn't in the collection, I won't think to proxy it. I could proxy the whole lot of them, but I hate the idea of my collection becoming riddled with proxies when it's got tens of thousands worth of real cards. Real Tabernacle + proxied Adric. Mathematical Genius = yuck.

I never bought the 40K precons and it's become an annoying pain in the butt to acquire the stuff I want, even if I ignore the mediocre stuff.

I've still got a decent amount of money in investments and stuff, despite the drain of flying - and I could potentially be close to the end of the flying expenses for now, thank god. Obviously if money gets tighter I'll have to rein in the magic spending. I don't mind spending a fair chunk on precons occasionally (boy do I miss the once-per-year releases...), it's just the constant deluge that's obnoxious. There's those LTC bundle things in a month to consider as well =/ Hopefully prices are lower for singles on those, I sure don't care to spend money for the booster packs.

Personally, I've recently been enjoying creating high quality proxies, It's still cheaper, I get to scratch that arts and crafts itch, and I can make the art whatever I want (biggest example being true duals, good grief are they UGLY). I don't have time, nor motivation to proxy everything, but it's a fun hobby. I totally understand why many people prefer the real deal though.

I really should make a Phelddagrif proxy one of these days, as funny as the derpy art is, I play the deck often enough I should probably find/create some artwork I actually enjoy.

I just did one for Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph. I can't stand the Warhammer artworks (even if Ghyrson is kinda ok looking), so I crafted a Roland Deschain version (the gunslinging protagonist of King's Dark Tower, give it a read and don't watch the crappy movie! It's just 8 books). I used art from the comic adaption and I'm pretty happy with it.
