@TheGildedGoose Fair enough. I wasn't initially trying to make an argument, just taking Legend's list as a jumping-off point to elucidate my own (potentially controversial) opinions in the interest of stirring up some interesting conversations.

Funny enough, the most heated arguing happened without me being present at all, but WYGD.

Oh hey, I can finally reveal the collection I'm being published in:

https://www.flametreepublishing.com/alt ... 72728.html

I dig the cover. Dunno if my story really qualifies as "Gothic" though.

if you're going to be that nit-picky then why the hell is your story in there at all since the rest of the collection series name is "Classic Stories and Epic Tales" your story isn't a classic nor is it epic :P

But yeah it is a nice cover

I'm so used to seeing people copy my signature deck that I have multiple locals doing it.

Anyway, formats have been getting solved too quickly since RTR. This process has only accelerated.
If you are referring to the non commander formats of magic that is largely due to how much more gameplay is being done at a time due to magic arena. MTGO should ideally have caused this issue so I don't really know why this is a new thing since MTG Arena but.... yea its caused a lot of issue. If you break down the pace of magic play before magic arena it was largely once a week events and that changed with arena to be like having FNM every night of the week which caused a much faster rate of figuring out metas that didn't really exist before. With arena there were more events held more frequently with easier displaying of the results as well as the gameplay than it had before which just kicked things into high gear.

If you are talking about commander I have no idea what you are referring to. There are more products than ever with most sets releasing something like 10x more legends than we had ever seen before in the past per set while having like 2x the product as a whole coming which makes it feel more unsolved than ever to me. The format is getting older though and more people are getting more experienced with the format which can make new decks feel solved much faster but I still think there is a lot more space to deckbuild as a whole.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, as they say. Personally, I got no problem with netdecking. I'm kinda antsy in general, so deckbuilding can be stressful for me with all the decision trees and micro-interactions to balance. I prefer to just rip-off something that looks fun and then season to my tastes rather than wrack my brain trying to be original. (I'm more of a player than a brewer though, so that probably has some bearing on where I stand. I also think that in my entire EDH career, I've only ever built one original deck: a Nissa, Vastwood Seer // Nissa, Sage Animist lands matter deck that finished the game using Eye of Ugin to fetch a stream of recurring eldrazi. Fun deck, very repetitive though.)

I think the real problem with competitive constructed is the format management. Powercreep shows up early, bans come late. Certain formats are favorite children and others have been sent into community foster care. It ain't right.

EDIT: thought I'd share the best game with said Nissa deck: I once beat a Najeela CEDH deck with it by using karn's Bastion to proliferate the counters on a spike weaver for an endless stream of fogs. The game went stupid long and thankfully the other two players focused Najeela super hard so that bought the table a load of time. Najeela steadily takes out the other two players as they fight through the disruption, whereas I manage to survive because I'm playing like 6 fogs in this stupid deck. Eventually it's just me and Najeela. I slam the spike weaver and get proliferating. Najeela's in topdeck mode by now, she's got infinite dudes already but they can't break through my Spike Weaver. I slam an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and nail Najeela and Druids' Repository. Next turn, infinite dudes swing in and get lost in the fog again. I swing, eat a third of their library, including their Thoracle Combo out. Once again, the world's population swings into the mist. I swing again. It's Najeela's last topdeck, now or never. It's Mental Misstep and she concedes. I will never again get so lucky in a game of magic as I did then.

@TheAmericanSpirit: that sounds like an epic game, but the thought of slogging through endless fogs fills me with rage.

I love recurring Fogs. Constant Mists is the only one that gives me pause because of how comparatively difficult it is to interact with, but for the most part I think they're a fun "Got an answer?" check.

My personal favorite that every EDH player has experienced at least once. Meren of Clan Nel Toth+Spore Frog. Turbofrog. I love how random cards like the fog frog can become all-stars when paired with a synergistic commander. Of course it only fogs one combat step per rotation, but the threat of it being YOUR combat step is a great deterrent for the whole table. It's like when the mob surrounds Wyatt Earp and he's like, ok which one of you wants to die in the process of capturing me, step right up.

Ah, Venedrex, you have such a way with words! Now I want to alter my Spike Weaver to look like Kurt Russell.

For sure. I don't know why, but Stallone in glasses cracks me up. The two things seem so incongruous. I'd say the top five Kurt Russell movies are:

Big Trouble in Little China
The Thing
Escape from New York/LA
Tombstone
Captain Ron

Man, I need to rewatch The Thing. That movie scared me %$#% when I was a kid. Between the practical effects and the tangible paranoia, that movie is a masterpiece of fear.

It feels weird to put Escape From NY and Escape from LA on the same line there, but at any rate Big Trouble is the uncontested champ.

Can confirm that the movie has aged pretty decently. I haven't watched the remake of it yet, but if the movie's ambiance and feeling of dread, suspicion, and horror translates over with updated special effects it would be amazing.

I'm actually on the hunt for any good monster horror movies to watch for October ( I stay the f*&^ away from evil spirits and demons. I've seen some ish...). Any good recommendations for good monster movies?

One of my favorites has always been Oni-Baba (1964). It's an old Japanese horror film I first encountered when I was waking up early on Saturdays (like 4 am dude) to watch old samurai movies on IFC as a kid. The plot is relatively simple, but the atmosphere is so %$#% intense between the stark cinematography and the driving, maddening drums that underpin the movie's score. I also liked Slither (2006), which is somehow more funny than it is disgusting and features some really quality acting. Zombeavers (2014) is just plain terrible, but gets a lot better with a few friends and something to imbibe. Oh, and the first Tremors movie (1990) is a classic.

My dude, do you have a ghost story? I %$#% love ghost stories. You can't just drop something like that and then not share! Come on, what have you seen?

Not monster movies but I'll throw Happy Death Day and the sequel into the ring for anyone looking for something fun this Halloween. I find them both to be quite charming.
