Tbh it's much worse than cryptic command because at least cryptic command happens once and then it's over. You might struggle to remember all 4 modes, but it's your card after all, and once you do remember them and choose the two you want, you're usually done with it. Thalia and Gitrog not only has an ongoing presence and effects you need to continuously remember, but it has effects that your OPPONENT has to continuously remember when playing lands and creatures.
Whatever, it's a legal game piece, I can at least consider my collection complete. But what a ridiculous choice of card to do a textless promo.

I found this article today about frequently misunderstood rules. It's a perfectly cromulent article until it makes the following claim:
It goes on to say:Rule of Law Effects Last The Turn Even After Destroyed
I get that Magic is complex, but it's a specific kind of irritation when someone is clearly wrong while trying to come from a place of authority. There was a guy at my old LGS who I'd have frequent rules disputes with. He was wrong every time, but what bothered me was how much of a jerk he was about it.once the player has started the turn with a Rule of Law or similar effect in place, that restriction will last the entire turn. Thus using a Disenchant to destroy Rule of Law on your own turn doesn't let you cast more spells again.

You know there's a textless Omnath, Locus of Creation right?DirkGently wrote: ↑1 year agoTbh it's much worse than cryptic command because at least cryptic command happens once and then it's over. Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. Slightly less egregious since at least it doesn't directly effect opponents but still awful. Why do they keep making these things? Do people like them? Isn't the point of game pieces to help you understand what's happening in the game?
Just to emphasize the point, there's a ruling on Arcane Laboratory:RxPhantom wrote: ↑1 year agoI get that Magic is complex, but it's a specific kind of irritation when someone is clearly wrong while trying to come from a place of authority. When it leaves the battlefield, the effect ends and all players are able to cast spells unrestricted again. (2004-10-04)

Half of the top reviews for this thing on the Home Depot's website are for MtG. Also if you are looking for something almost as good, but a lot cheaper, Harbor Freight has their own that you can often get on sale for $10.

Hmm, functionality is kinda lame. Having a card without text is pretty cool, but it's still a card so it could be better.
Personally I prefer my cardless Thalia and the Gitrog monster. It's a 2014 Suzuki Swift. Bit of a bear to shuffle, but it definitely catches everyone's attention when I bust it out.
I've heard some people have the matter-less version. I can only imagine.

They were also wrong about the Suspend cards. At first, it seemed like they could just be using "Mana Value" more colloquially (which is a problem in itself but not a rules issue necessarily) but then their explanation goes on to indicate that they know what Mana Value is. They simply believe these don't have a mana value. Everything has a mana value even if it might be 0. (Most) tokens don't have a mana cost and they have a mana value of 0. Same here.RxPhantom wrote: ↑1 year agoI found this article today about frequently misunderstood rules. It's a perfectly cromulent article until it makes the following claim:

I will also add that being rules lawyery can have a negative impact on your LGS. I was actually talking to a friend of mine and he mentioned his girlfriend doesn't like to go to our local LGS anymore as one of the players there is very rules lawyery and calls her out on every little thing. He is a nice guy, but he is not someone newer or less experienced players should play with as he will make them know every little thing they are doing wrong in a very blunt and rules lawery manner. The worst part is he doesn't understand that what he is doing is causing problems. He seriously believes that what he is doing is best and everyone should be like this when playing the game.RxPhantom wrote: ↑1 year agoI found this article today about frequently misunderstood rules. The other part is he is kind of knowledgeable about rules, but only at a surface level, and would not cut it as a judge.
For example:
1. He thought the enchanted player became the owner of the curse.
2. He didn't understand why Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern didn't let the player who control her get my Grave Scrabbler after I discarded it.
3. He thought if Lord Xander, the Collector was copied by Blade of Selves he would get all three triggers instead of just the EtB and death triggers.
That's why I always try to be very kind when explaining mistakes or correcting players, and to try as clearly explain why something works the way it does as clearly as possible.

I try to be as clear and gentle as possible when explaining or correcting, especially when I'm not confident in my own interpretation. Explaining things is a big part of my job. 1. Put Minion's Return on a token creature expecting it to work.
2. Protested when I used Protean Thaumaturge to copy his Nyxborn Colossus, which I had enchanted with Ichthyomorphosis. He thought the Thaumaturge would be a 0/1 fish.
3. Said, "I don't think you can do that" when I responded to his The Binding of the Titans by targeting the cards with Tymaret, Chosen from Death.
And those were the ones I knew about. His slow play and rules ineptitude caused a lot of games to go to time. He also played Commander and I avoided him at all costs. He was a jerk in other ways, but insisting he knew the rules of Magic when he often didn't, and being an aggressive person in the first place, made me steer clear. Unless I had to call him out for being aggressive to others.

I currently use the bag of holding i got from thinkgeek before they got bought by gamestop, but i'm running out of room in it. The others in my group who use it all have like 5+ decks.

1-2 years back i bought a big camera bag (Rollei Fotoline L) and haven't looked back ever since. The biggest upside of a backpack will always be comfort - and for me personally, to carry my belongings on my bike with me.
It comes with a nifty rain cover, holds 18 decks comfortably, my playmat in its cover fits where a camera stand is supposed to be stored and there's plenty of smaller and bigger compartments for dice, a binder, my tablet and so on.

I always liked the player profiles and had a spare Richard Garfield, Ph.D.. I needed some decorations for my new home office, so why my first ever Magic wall decoration is here! Only Melvin, Rules Lover is missing! ...til the next Un-set, which might be just around the corner.

Did you just YOLO throw Pyroblast and REB in some decks? Sounds like it is working out enjoyably. XD
I did sorta I guess. Xenagos is my supreme fu to blue decks. I'm coming right at you one gigantic creature at a time and you'd best answer every single one and hope I don't pyroblast it. I may add reb but so far dualcaster mage is my extra counterspell.materpillar wrote: ↑1 year agoDid you just YOLO throw Pyroblast and REB in some decks? Sounds like it is working out enjoyably. XD
He's just such an elegant commander to stomp on people who want to spam sweepers and countermagic. One fatty is all it takes.
It's a heap of trash but it's been rampaging lol.
Are you also playing uncounterable fatties? Seems fun.pokken wrote: ↑1 year agoI did sorta I guess. Xenagos is my supreme fu to blue decks. The New World fell not to a sword but to a meme
Naw, I didn't think that far ahead The problem with uncounterable is they still die to removal, and they're worse. So I crammed the absolute strongest nonsense I could think of, so I can just cast one and threaten a murder.
Xenagos is just so neat with the "and this guy is also lethal in two turns, and if it hits I make 800 mana so everyone dies next turn!"
