We'll get them in-universe soon enough. They can throw them into anything or reprint them in Commander Masters 2 or MH3.
Yeah the names are clearly ambiguous enough to fit into any set, not fallout specific. I'd be surprised if they didn't have plans to put them somewhere in the future.

If a land cycle is completed but no one plays it is it really completed?
I really don't get why everyone craps on the ODY filters, when signets are the most popular mana rocks of all time bar sol ring and arcane signet. Sure, ODY filters can fail due to lack of input mana in a way that signets generally can't, but unless you're going weirdly deep on them it's not really an issue.

Imo they're the most exciting spoiler from the set so far =/
I would say that the main reason is that they're awkward in a wide variety of situations, particularly in the early game. It doesn't let you cast a 1-drop on turn 1 or a spell that costs CC on T2 (or CCC on T3), while most other fixing lands will. It's also awkward if you want to, say, cast an Expedition Map and have the option to activate it or cast a Counterspell on T3. That's less likely in the lategame, but it's still possible to cast a draw spell and draw into a filter land you can't immediately use.

I suspect that they're a bit underplayed relative to their power level though - people tend to be risk-averse. If you have an island, a swamp, and a Darkwater Catacombs in your opening hand, it feels like the filter land is preventing you from casting Counterspell on T2. In contrast, an island, a swamp, and a Dimir Signet in an opening hand feels like the signet is enabling you to cast Counterspell on T3. Swapping to Underground River fixes the first situation, but swapping to Talisman of Dominance doesn't affect the latter.

That would be good lands in opening hand for me  I can see your case about casting on curve from turn 1 to turn 3, but that sounds specific to higher levels. In more casual games I don't see an issue with these lands, especially in precons and decks where the initial turns don't matter as much as having colours available in later turns.

Ha, I'm not trying to suggest this is at higher power levels either - I probably should have said Narset's Reversal for an opponent's Cultivate instead. :P

FWIW, this conversation has made me lean towards picking up a copy of Desolate Mire for Teysa - I have two bb cards it can't cast on T2 (and one bbb for T3), but six cards that cost wb it theoretically helps with. I dread the inevitable 'filter land + Sol Ring / Troll of Khazad-dûm' hands though.

No other land? I don't think you keep that, but I don't think I'd keep a 1,5/2 lander either. Your Teysa has 31 lands, am I right?

I'll admit that vault 21: House Gambit is some pretty amazing design.

@Mookie They're bad with XXX costs, and great with XYZ costs. So it just depends on the costs within the deck whether they're a good fit.

Cards that produce mana but need startup mana (filters, troll, and all forms of ramp except moxen/crypt/etc) all put a cost on the deck. So you do need to keep that in mind. 2-mana+ rocks don't interfere with filters since you'd need another land to cast the rock anyway - and that's true for the vast majority of cards that get played - but sol ring and troll do. If there's a chunk of those sorts of cards you want to run, it could be a reason not to run filters.

It appears as though play boosters are getting a bit of a revamp with Outlaws of Thunder Junction. While each pack is guaranteed to contain 14 MTG cards and one token/ad or art card, it's actually possible to open as many as five rares in a play booster. In Murders at Karlov Manor, the most you could open in one pack was four. So, what changed?

Most notably, every play booster for Outlaws of Thunder Junction will contain a Breaking News card. These cards will all be reprints, debuting new artwork and a unique news-style treatment that showcases the spell in question as a crime. While it's not entirely clear from this description, based on the fact that one Breaking News card reprint shows up in each play booster, there's a good chance that these cards could function as part of an unannounced bonus sheet for the set.

Along with play boosters, Breaking News cards can also appear in collector boosters. Every collector booster comes equipped with at least three Breaking News cards, as well as six alt-border cards. Every collector booster comes with five rare/mythic rare cards, five uncommons, four commons, and one full-art Land in all packs.

Further, in less than 1% of collector boosters, you can find a textured foil Breaking News card. The new textured foil treatment is exclusive to collector boosters. As you can see, collector boosters, while pricier, do come with some nice bonuses in comparison to play boosters.

Welp now I have to buy a deck. I thought it was only a collector's pack slot. Great move, finally we can stop demonizing MLD. Now give us Boom // Bust too, so I can out skill people by casting Boom on my Strip Mine and respond by cracking it.

The solution is you cast Drown in the Loch or Mana Leak|sth in that slot instead, if you're at a point you're playing this style of fixing. To lean into heavy pip spells when your fixing is shaky, is irresponsible deckbuilding that's asking to get you blown out. And drown is fine given at this level you're likely playing in a slower game where it has time to build (or else you're playing to a higher game level and making things harder for yourself than they need to be anyway).

I think he means he casts the boom targeting his own strip mine

Not that that is terribly powerful. Like surely you can see that is so different from Ravages of War to not even be considered the same thing?
All cards are bad if you try hard enough.

Important decks: Ebondeath, Dracolich, Emiel, The Blessed, Phelddagriff
Other: Ruhan, Zask, Kellan, Liesa, Galadriel, Orca, Sauron, Thantis, Rukarumel, Sisay, Stickfingers, Safana, Thantis, Dihada

Umm it is only in CB
Finally, a number of highly desired reprints will only appear in this set's Collector Booster packs. They include Ravages of War, which destroys every land on the table regardless of who put it in play, and a unique take on the venerable Sol Ring.
I haven't seen anything saying it's in a pre-con.

Ohhh, nonono. I cast Boom targeting your land and my strip then retain priority and crack strip towards another of your lands. Hit two lands for 1R. Tithe works in a similar way in that you crack fetch, retain priority to cast to tithe, get your two xw duals, then resolve your fetch.

  • Elder Arthur Maxson looks intriguing as an alternative to Yahenni, Undying Partisan. You lose the ability to have a giant beater left over after a board wipe, but human typing is very relevant for Teysa - the only human sac outlet I currently have is Cartel Aristocrat.
  • Mysterious Stranger is... interesting. I've tried Wildfire Devils in the past and fount it to be of dubious value. This only triggers once, but gives you a lot more control over what you get.
  • The various bobbleheads are mildy interesting. I don't see myself wanting multiple Manaliths for many decks, but there's probably some decks that value using them even at X=1.
  • Vault 21: House Gambit looks quite fun - double rummage is alright but not amazing, but getting a pile of treasure at the end is pretty exciting.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but no, they have not made an MTG card of a cereal - Kellogg is a bad guy from Fallout 4.

Junktown is my jam. Junk tokens look great.
Wild Wasteland should be an all-star in Pia Nalaar, Consul of Revival and maybe a lot of places.

Legate Lanius, Caesar's Ace might be my next "Oops, all Fleshbags!" general. I'm not convinced he is a better Rakdos option than Juri, Master of the Revue, but I try to give them all a whirl.
Speaking of Fleshbags, add Wasteland Raider to the list.
Mirri, Cat Warrior counts as a Cat Warrior.

Man, Raul, Trouble Shooter and Wild Wasteland are absolute slam dunks for Nashi, Moon's Legacy and Nassari, Dean of Expression respectively!

Struggle for Project Purity looks wild if you choose "Brotherhood" - which you propably should.

Yeah that card is pretty gnarly. Honestly wtf is the point of the other mode lol, why would anyone choose that? I guess if someone else has gone mega-wide and you're holding a fog?
