I had an ad come up on my Facebook feed a couple weeks ago about the one of one. It was in some Asian language, presumably mandarin or something, with an English translation following, just giving the details of what the one of one is, hype hype hype, buy now etc.

I commented on it to say it was disingenuous to advertise in foreign languages when its only get ing to appear in English packages. Got about 5 laugh reacts in ten minutes, and then the ad disappeared. Presumably it was taken down.

That's all kind of apropos of nothing, but it is interesting how much they want to push for the gimmick. It's clearly a huge opportunity for them. But as @materpillar mentioned, the whole thing is rife with irony, avarice and greed. It's hilarious to me but in the most pathos-laden way possible. It kind of ruins two things I love and identify with. As a spectacle for both fandoms I find it hugely embarrassing.

I would be very surprised if it isn't seeded to appear somewhere fairly likely.

Exactly. They want to be able to control the optics on it's discovery, at the very least in the first instance.

Does anyone understand what the deal is with the outcry over Reddit's API changes? As far as I can tell, people are mad that it's going to effectively close down 3rd party apps that let you view Reddit without ads which...I mean, duh? Why would Reddit want to serve data if they aren't getting paid by ad views? I get why you'd want to view it without ads but I don't get why you'd think closing down subreddits would do any good. You're basically admitting that you don't make them any money, why would they care what you think?

Look at all the Twitch stuff lately and maybe it might make more sense, I dunno. Neither of them are sites I'm invested in though, so perhaps I'm talking out my ass.

My thoughts on this is that communities are getting fiesty about jumping ship from big platforms onto other ones because of increasingly organized (i.e. restrictive) management. Heck, bad management is the whole reason we're on this very site right now. I say good for them, reddit sucks ass imo. Let them build their own forums like Void, Feyd, and Cryo did for all of us and maybe they'll prosper better. I can't say for sure, but it sounds to me like it beats worshipping at the altar of that hideous little alien (seriously, I hate that logo. I have spent a disproportionate amount of time studying advertising, brands, and marketing and I tell you it is aesthetic vomit.).

I'm on this site (as compared to sally) because everybody else came over here and I didn't want to be trapped alone with Card Slinger J. I don't really have strong opinions about one site over the other, I just care about the people who are on it.

I haven't heard of the moderation tools thing, what are 3rd party apps doing that reddit itself can't do (and why wouldn't reddit want to supply those features?)

Maybe my experience with Reddit is anomalous but it seems so highly atomized that, while I can imagine some subreddits might become toxic with bad moderation (r/facepalm already feels like the millennial version of those news shows that run 24/7 "black guy did a crime" stories), I can't really see how that would become a site-wide problem. I mostly use reddit to find people who share niche interests. What does a white nationalist even say on r/hurdygurdy?

The tools from the 3rd parties also let you go back to the old reddit view, along with many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users. Some tools are only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free. Apparently accessibility for the blind isn't part of the official reddit app

I hope they resolve it soon though. Having to troll through Twitter or (god forbid) directly through Weibo for updates on web novel IPs and stuff is painful and at least for reddit other people all link those things in once place.

ordered a Sliver Overlord just to be safe when the CL full deck list comes out. I also think I'm going to switch from selling cards from Coolstuff to Cardkingdom. It feels like I'm getting less of a return than I used to with CSI.

I have gotten to the point where I try REALLY hard not to buy any sealed product at all so even if wallyworld has it, it kind of doesn't matter. I try to buy as little magic as I can and buying singles whenever possible. For me its mostly that I hate the gambling aspect of TCG pack opens and I understand how the math works. Its also a matter of trading / selling all the random crap you get from packs which I don't really want to deal with. Personally I think the new set is like.... fine but I also don't plan to buy any sealed product of it and I probably wait on singles given how hard it appears to be being sought out.

Won a half box of LTR last night after 8 grueling weeks of league play. Never doing that again. Anyway, at least it will help take the edge off the expense of this set.

Idk man, from a lore perspective Phyrexians got that plot armor going. Even now they're not really "gone", they're just gone. Just like phasing, heh. Mechanically though, Slivers probably take the cake.

Slivers original home plane is unknown, they where brought over from there to Rath and Rath later was overlayed onto Dominaria and the silvers died off in the process but where Jurassic Park'ed back to life. Post-Mending the peoples of Dominaria where able to contain the Sliver onto Otaria, which (purposely) hasn't been show much in the post Mending Dominaria sets.

Similarly a story suggests the alien/humanoid M14 slivers Shandalar where non-naive to Shandalar and been brought there some how (and seemly linked to them evolving/muting from the normal slivers).

For Slivers or Phyrexia I'd think it depends if Phyrexia knew about Slivers before hand and where able to compleat them fast and efficient enough as I think Slivers (like the monsters on Ikoira) would evolve anti-phyrexian mutations.

Does anyone else have any thoughts as to how singles are going to look with this LOTR set? The sealed product especially collectors packs or whatever they are called are in crazy demand right now. I am wondering how exactly wizards adjusts their allocation of those packs based on early demand. If its already set in stone how many of those packs are created early on then it will just hike the sealed product price of that type of pack sealed but if they adjust and print more of it then the price of variant art and the set as a whole might be super cheap. I don't know how they make any of those adjustments or if they do them at all though.

I don't know if this is worth its own topic as much as me just kind of wondering if singles might be cheap on this one with the high demand for sealed product.

All the chase serialized nonsense should make the singles extremely cheap. I am not buying jack squat until they've been hunting the ring for a while myself, and ideally after they find it Once it's found the value of sealed product ought to implode.

I picked up a foil The Watcher in the Water but that's my only concession cos I need it for Ephara's new build.

Yea, some of the cards look alright but as of right now I plan to just wait and see what happens to the singles. The set seems fine, I just think its going to be opened so heavily it seems like prices are due to drop.

Isn't the serialized stuff not found in draft boosters or set boosters? It can only in collector boosters.
So not sure that will have any bearing on draft boosters. More like the premium versions of cards will be closer in price to the regular printings than the typical set.

Probably this, but also the stuff from collectors' packs that aren't like premium treatment will end up being pretty reasonable I'd say.

Honestly without knowing how the set is going to shake out for modern I don't think there's a ton of stuff that's going to really hold its price for long anyway. Probably the One Ring, Bowmasters, Delighted, Banditry, Gandalf the White, not a ton of other stuff. At a very loose, top of my head guess anyway.

Ya, I admit that I pre-ordered more from this set than I have ever preordered. First time I order sealed product in a couple years too. I just have a way-too-strong emotional connection to Lord of the Rings (like it saved my life when I was 17), so I just want to have it all. I want to draft it. I want to collect it.
And never intend to resell any of it.
Figure I will pick up any missing singles after a few years when I have drafted my boxes.

So maybe not the best financial decision, but I won't regret it ever. Hopefully any cards I don't open will be cheap for me to buy on the secondary market.
