Has it? Boros, like all the other terms used on EDHREC is just a name for the colour identity. Yeah it comes from Ravnica Guilds but Boros Legends they I'd say often just go wide and want to do combat, not all of them but that is how I'd describe Ravnica Boros. If asked about Boros as colour pair, I'd say its mostly combat orientated commanders, which can go hand in hand with Voltron.

I suppose people are assuming Boros = Equipment/Voltron maybe because many of the most recent legends had that theme?

Well the initial complaint was that there there was a deluge of equipment commanders, and then there were complaints that RW was only "boros-y"

I'm not sure how easy it'd be to break down the other RW commanders more specifically. Maybe there are some other categories you could tease out but a lot of stuff doesn't seem similar to anything else imo.

Okay time to solve this discourse.



From this we learn 2 things:
1) There aren't that many equipment-focused commanders (especially considering its a synergy they both share strongly and other colors don't - plus a fair chunk of those also count auras). It's like 15%. It is not an "endless parade".
2) If you want to do something in Boros that isn't combat or using equipment, you've got plenty of options. The number of non-equipment, non-combat boros commanders is equivalent to the total number of all boros commanders that were available in 2021 (after Innistrad: midnight hunt and before the stranger things SL).

Holy... talk about bias... Boros as the aggro/equipment colour was really engraved in my brain. Maybe the myriads of new commanders weren't all bad.
Simic probably has a similar thing going on. There are probably more commanders without "Landfall: Draw a card".

I just don't understand the perpetual victim complex. Yeah, mono white, mono red, and boros have had it rough in the past, but things really are looking up for the colors.

Besides, it's not even like boros is the color combination with the least amount of interesting ideas. That title belongs firmly to Simic

I also definitely don't buy the we only think of boros as boros because we got the name from ravnica, literally all color combinations are referred to by their ravnica guild.

ETB shenanigans
Saboteur
Enchantress
Dredge
Tokens
Clone
Sea Creatures and other tribes
Stickers
and of course: Stupid Ramp Value Combo Draw.dec.

Sure, Simic has some famously stupid good cards and the combination of green's ramp and blue's draw and counterspells is a bane to many tables. But besides that there are plenty of options to craft fun and interesting decks.

Probably. Simic is not my favourite either. But if we could find anything good in the oversaturation, it's the increase of more or less interesting commanders.

Yeah, to be clear, I think Simic is fine, and Boros is even better off than Simic.

For those that don't want a lot of thought or effort to go into upgrades, if you buy Hail, Caesar (do not pay markups), you could pick up the Ruthless Regiment pre-build deck at a discount (looks like $30 where I'm sitting) and there's an awful lot of overlap between the two, synergy-wise. There's also a ~$12 Species Specialist and a $~$10 Flawless Maneuver in that deck so you pretty well make your money back in the other 98 cards. Add another $1 if you want a Trading Post|brc (you'll thank me latre).

because of Jace, Wielder of Mysteries being in every self-mill deck. i personally hate them, they've taken WAY too many tourneys from me.

Circling back to the Boros debate I have to admit that they have made some efforts in recent years to expand RW from just Boros things. That being said I reserve the right to be mad until they remember that R and W have overlap in various forms of denial and give me a suitable legend to ruin my friendships.

He's not going to be in Bloomburrow, that art is from a special series of planeswalkers and legends card that shows how they would be if they went to Bloomburrow.

Ral as an otter however will be on Bloomburrow during the events of the story, seemly going to the plane will transform being into a small animalfolk.

Actually that's not canon that's just a preview of a sequel to "What if" type of cards

Jace did get compleated, but there were some alternate arts showing everyone getting complete, like Tyvar, Jubilant Brawler and so on

It occurred to me that Aradesh, the Founder would be a decent and unique voltron commander, but I started brewing and their really isn't really enough creatures worth enlisting.

You really want 5 or more power creatures to enlist, as that turns Aradesh the Founder into a 2-turn kill.

Lupine Prototype is great, and Relic Golem/Stoic Ephemera are fine, but after that you're looking at 4 mana options, and you've got to go all the way to 5 mana if you want more than 7 creatures to enlist in the deck (which you do).

Keep in mind that to enlist a creature it can't have summoning sickness, so you have to wait another turn even once you land the creature.

You could go with even lower power creatures, but there really aren't that many cheap 4 power creatures, and any lower than that you miss out on the draw trigger, so I'm off of it. Maybe someday we'll have enough options.
