Tantalite's okay.
Really? I have zero experience with it, but... it just seems lousy, even on turn one. Like, suspend 3 will get you an additional mana on turn 4. But, you don't see people playing Search for Tomorrow in crazy numbers, and it even has an escape hatch with a regular mana cost. Mox Tantalite is a dreadful topdeck later.

How are you using it that it's even okay?
Seems fine in Daretti, Scrap Savant, or any deck with graveyard artifact shenanigans, which is most artifact decks?

Re Mox Opal I wouldn't say it's the best except in the decks it works well in. Sure the other top two cost card advantage, but you're probably using the mana from them to buy card advantage.

I've never used my copy. Seems good for an artifact deck but I find that idea boring.

I think Chrome Mox is the best mox in terms of being optimal in the most decks. It can always come out t1, which makes it a snap include for most cmc 2-3 commanders and strong outside of those. In theory diamond does the same but there are more hands that are bad because of diamond than chrome, since chrome essentially counts as a land whereas diamond doesn't.

Although Gemstone Caverns is probably better than both. Fast mana t1, and otherwise it's just a no-ca-loss land. Less nice in your hand after a big draw though - slapping down a mox is nice in that scenario, and the CA is irrelevant.

Sunday, June 6th, 2021; Mitotic Slime

It's "just" a vanilla guy. But is it really? It never dies all the way, is a fun trick with SolaS, and hey you can even populate the tokens to create more slimes that multiply. I think it's a reasonable wave of offense because, let's be honest, no one is blowing their Plowshares on this.

It seems like it'd be good in og trostani and Riku, but it's more a creature for casual tables thanks to the cmc.

It's probably not good but I still try to cram this card into some of my decks every now and then. I just love this kind of fun design. It might be worth it to play it alongside Reef Worm into Adrix and Nev, Twincasters, now that I think about it, mmmh.

There's some combos you can pull with sac outlets and recursion. I saw someone combo it with Sneak Attack, Phyrexian Altar, and Garna, the Bloodflame - but then I countered the garna trigger and wrecked him lol.

Can't see playing this in a deck without sac outlets tbh. That's where the value lies, not in the stats or their durability.

Mitotic Slime makes a lot of bodies - you get the base 4/4 body, two 2/2s, and four 1/1s, for a total of seven bodies and 12/12 points of stats. That's... pretty solid for a five-drop, and makes it a reasonable consideration for an aristocrats or tokens strategy that cares about having a lot of bodies. If you throw in any Parallel Lives effects, it gets even sillier - you get four 2/2s and sixteen 1/1s, which is sort of absurd. The bodies are all vanilla, but quantity does certainly outperform quality in some situations.

That said, if you don't have any use for the bodies (or you don't have any token-multiplying effects), there are a lot of five-drops that compare favorably. Wolfir Silverheart also yields 12/12 points of stats, but they're frontloaded, with 4/4 of those stats having haste. Once you start looking at creatures that aren't just piles of stats, there are even better options.

It's for tokens. Little else. A lot of that comes from all the entry and death triggers you can get off it. And I must mention Purphoros, God of the Forge. That's seven triggers, or 14 with Panharmonicon, and it just gets silly witj token doublers. Not as good as Deranged Hermit's 18 with Panharmonicon but acceptable.

RG (RGx) Ooze enjoys mixing Mitotic Slime with Mirror March (and similar - sac outlet req'd). I've considered it for a WG Lifeline/Enduring Renewal deck, but I haven't finished building it (yet).

It's a fun card.

Non-scaling Ad Nauseam combo piece. I mean, I guess it could go places with Creeping Renaissance, etc.

Why would anyone ever play this over Seismic Assault? I think one more R is worth being not symmetrical and expanding potential targets beyond only players. 1.73/10

There's one very narrow difference: players can discard anything with Land's Edge, not just lands. That doesn't make the card good but it's worth noting.

1) This allows players to discard any card, not just lands. Possibly valuable and relevant to heavy madness/hellbent decks. In mono-red, it's this or Patchwork Gnomes as the only games in town to allow you to selectively discard cards at instant speed multiple times per turn (granted most hellbent/madness decks are Rakdos and have infinitely more and better options but shhhh....)

2) This is symmetrical which can be spooky - or awesome, with Mindslaver et al. "Stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself...". Granted it's tough to pull that trick off, since they can pitch their hand in response to you casting or activating 'slaver - but maybe you sneak it past a player messing around on their cellphones? You are using some dumb old card after all...

3) Triple red is a non-trivial cost for budget-ish tricolor decks. It's theoretically possible that someone like Lord Windgrace finds this a lot easier to cast.

4) This is an Enchant World, so it can blow up other enchant worlds - extra relevant in the color that MaRo dictates cannot touch enchantments otherwise!

Those are all really niche though. Realistically thinking, you want to play Seismic Assault over Land's Edge in all practical scenarios. This is an example of where Seismic Assault isn't strictly better but it's so much more practically better as to be moot.

@Hawk @Dragoon

Huh, I never realized you can discard any card. I suppose that is neat, albeit niche.

I've definitely done this to kill a Hall of Gemstone. And then had two players question my rules-fu and what a world enchant is and why we don't have them anymore.

My only experience with this card was about 10 years ago when I started playing commander in stores. My LGS had events where you won a pack for each player you knocked out (and one for last man standing).
I remember someone cast this, and they were confused why I kept playing lands instead of discarding them. I also remember that when a player got to 2 life, two people fought over trying to deal the finishing blow and probably discarded 5 lands between the two of them to get the final 2 damage in.

I still think I was right to play my lands out.

In this case, Land's Edge deals the damage, so the controlling player would get the point regardless of who discarded the card, unless there was a house rule that allowed another player to get the point even though it was someone else's effect that did the damage.

I am reminded of Task Mage Assembly too, though there it was just something Masques block did. It does have value if you're doing something like Grixis reanimator.

While I'm sure it's possible/viable to win with this card, I have never seen anyone do it. Maybe I should sleeve it up in Jorn...

I played it as one of the potential wincons in Patron of the Orochi. That deck could generate absurd amounts of mana. I never won with it though, it was always dealt with before I could untap with 100 counters on it.
