Why would anyone ever play this over
Seismic Assault? I think one more
R is worth being not symmetrical and expanding potential targets beyond only players. 1.73/10
1) This allows players to discard any card, not just lands. Possibly valuable and relevant to heavy madness/hellbent decks. In mono-red, it's this or
Patchwork Gnomes as the only games in town to allow you to selectively discard cards at instant speed multiple times per turn (granted most hellbent/madness decks are Rakdos and have infinitely more and better options but shhhh....)
2) This is symmetrical which can be spooky - or awesome, with
Mindslaver et al. "Stop hitting yourself, stop hitting yourself...". Granted it's tough to pull that trick off, since they can pitch their hand in response to you casting or activating 'slaver - but maybe you sneak it past a player messing around on their cellphones? You are using some dumb old card after all...
3) Triple red is a non-trivial cost for budget-ish tricolor decks. It's theoretically possible that someone like
Lord Windgrace finds this a lot easier to cast.
4) This is an Enchant World, so it can blow up other enchant worlds - extra relevant in the color that MaRo dictates cannot touch enchantments otherwise!
Those are all really niche though. Realistically thinking, you want to play
Seismic Assault over
Land's Edge in all practical scenarios. This is an example of where Seismic Assault isn't
strictly better but it's so much more practically better as to be moot.
