Círdan the Shipwright

How does everyone feel about him? I like how he provides card advantage and allows cruiser cards to be dropped more readily. I'm tempted to add cards like Dream Halls/Show and Tell/Tidal Barracuda to my deck just to rouse mild chaos at the table, and everyone gets to play more traditional cruiser EDH.

Though, the friend I playtested with last night commented, "I don't enjoy participating in helping other people get their good stuff out." He also said that with more and more voting condition cards like Model of Unity/Erestor of the Council/etc on the table voting gets more complicated over time, and tedious like Rhystic Study. (Since I also blink Cirdan, often several times a turn.)

What are people's thoughts on Cirdan?

I have mixed feelings. On one hand I like the idea of trying to next level each other to figure out how everyone will vote. On the other hand optimizing this so that you actually make everyone perform multiple secret votes on a turn would get old really fast. After a game or two I see myself just wishing you'd play something explicitly broken like Kinnan and stop wasting time. I think I would either pass or play this guy sparingly.

I've thought about him. His mechanic is really funny. I personally wouldn't run freecast stuff since it sorta undercuts the point of the commander. Probably run a good mix of huge battlecruiser stuff that's excellent to cheat into play, and a bunch of cheap-and-effective stuff that you can draw into and feel good if everyone picks you.

I could see it getting tiresome because he's a real mindgame to think about, but as long as you have a reasonably fast way to do the voting I think it should be okay from time to time.

At the playtest, I suggested counting to three then point at the person to vote. This method becomes a learned habit after a while if Cirdan was the only voting permanent on the table. With aforementioned factors like Model of Unity/Erestor of the Council/etc the thinking time does get slightly longer for two players, which I imagine a full table might become problematic.

When you build correctly, cirdan speeds up the game alot.
Technically it is hard for the cirdan player to show and tell himself....but you should be able to get more cards..
Your goal is to steal and control the best permanent they put out.

Regarding the voting, after explaining the voting in simpler english, i will assign myself as 1, then the next player as 2.. etc.. then i will countdown and ask them to reveal the dice. Tally the voting and announce who draws and who drops.

Cirdan deck are those " once per night deck". You don't try to play it every game. It will loses it's novelty.

Personally I'd give everyone little packs of basic lands, with number equal to the number of players, then assign each player a color. Everyone puts a land face-down on the table, then they all get flipped up at the same time. Seems like the fastest, most straightforward way to me, and prevents anyone from changing their vote at the last second.

That's unfortunate, he's the only U/G big spell commander I like.

Slight necroing. Tolarian Community College recently had a Dr. Who commander match and I found Professor's deck very intriguing. He played a The Seventh Doctor/Ace, Fearless Rebel deck where he make people guess cards he put down. With the right set up, he could make people guess multiple times per combat.

On the same vibe as the original question regarding Cirdan: How do you folks feel about the guessing game, especially if it happens multiple times per turn consistently? If I pair Seventh with Clara Oswald, I can use red's extra combat to add even more guessing per turn. Would this bother people the same way Cirdan's voting might?
