When were you actively following MTG releases last?
That would be Eldritch Moon, back in 2016, released a full decade ago, as of the 22nd of this month.
For me it was around Theros block when I briefly "returned" to playing MTG, but I didn't keep up with buying cards from there beyond just enough to get a simple deck together, and the format soon enough rotated on me.
I also experimented with MTG Online for a little while, and it was convenient in some ways, allowing me to play MTG at home for borderline free, but it also was potentially a money suck if I allowed myself to be tempted to make small purchases so I can fill out my digital collection with the cards I need for my ideal decks. It's not free in practice and I personally found the concept of paying money for digital cards almost insulting to my intelligence as a consumer. I mostly avoided it but the incentive was to pay a little to crack digital packs to improve your progression with it. Something about that felt almost inherently scammy.
So yes, technically, I'm a custom designer here who pretty much hasn't actually actively played MTG since like 2004 or something, minus my brief return during Theros. I don't actually play MTG anymore because of the money barrier to playing Standard or Modern or getting a collection going again at all, since I unfortunately sold the bulk of my collection back around 2004.
I still "check in" in cycles about what's currently going on with the game though.
