Welcome to the DCC!
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post in the DCC Discussion Thread.
How To Play
How does this card-making game work? It's simple! Whenever your card receives a vote, you receive [1] point for the month. If your card ends up with the most votes for that day, you will receive [2] additional points for the month. In the event of a tie, each person who tied receives [1] additional point. At the end of each month, the person with the most points on the scoreboard wins that month, then the scoreboard is cleared for the next month. You can participate in as many or as few days as you want in any month.
Rules
- Each day you may post any card you want. On the next day all of the posted cards will be put into the thread as long as your card didn't get disqualified - see the next point for more details. If you post more than one card in a DCC thread, only the first card you post will be taken.
- When you vote, you need to make exactly two votes for two different people. Vote for the cards that are listed in the first post, not other cards being posted in the thread. If you notice that you've only voted for one person, include your second vote in a post, even if you're not submitting a card.
- If you want to change your vote for any reason, post that change in the day's thread (you can include it with your card if you want). Changed votes in the discussion thread will be ignored.
- Voting for only one person, for three or more people, or for yourself will earn you an asterisk by your name in the monthly leaderboard. So will failing to vote if you've posted a card. (We're not going to do anything about people who don't vote or post cards; that would be kind of silly.) This indicates that you're on probation for the next 21 days. If you're on probation and you make another improper vote, your card will be disqualified. Repeated disqualification is grounds for warnings and/or infractions for not following the game rules, so please don't do it.
- Voting for everything in the poll will be grounds for a lifetime ban from the DCC. Don't do it. It just wastes the thread creators' time.
- If you wish to post a render, please use the hyperlink option when posting your card and make the card name the image link. Renders are usually large enough to clog up the list, so submit a text-formed card and (optionally) a link in the name to the render.
- This thread is just for your card submission. Take your questions/comments to our discussion thread. If it's a question, comment, or complaint about probation, PM void_nothing and/or the month's DCC organizer.
- When posting make sure that:
- You have included all of the previous day's entries.
- You update the leaderboard with the previous day's scores.
Notes of the Day
And with a last minute upset, @Flatline takes the number one spot from netn10, ending the month with a round 75 points! First month returning to the game in a while and they procured that win. Excellent work!
Very interesting month, including some fascinating legends from @JessWill and @SinisterSister, the usual exploratory creations of @netn10, the cards that @Alchemist made based on my stories (hope you enjoyed them), and the usual squarely-good cards from @wizyard, and @Indighost. Looking forward to seeing what you all create in the next month.
Tomorrow I believe that @bravelion83 will be taking over posting the DCC, which comes with the usual time zone shift to central Europe. Though, I don't know Leo's exact schedule, so I will leave the particulars up to them to announce.
Now, time to round out this little story with Emile.
Story of the Day: He was warm.
At first, he wondered if he was dead. Perhaps the cold had finally gotten to him in his sleep, or one of the wandering giants had stepped on the sled in the dark. Perhaps he had passed into some benevolent afterlife, where he was finally comfortable.
He blinked slowly and moved his head left and right. He was in some sort of bath, steaming, warm liquid sloshing around him from the motion. He could see things, by a faint, green light. Stalactites hanging from a cavernous ceiling. That light was moving.
He turned to his side, towards the source of the light. It seemed to be coming from a lantern that was being carried by some figure over there. He couldn't see them clearly, but he could hear them bustling around. More than that, there seemed to be more than one of them, and they were speaking.
He tried to lift himself out of the water, but yelped in pain as he bore weight down on his hands. He was still missing fingers and the wounds had not fully healed.
The sound drew the attention of the others, and that green lantern came around the intervening stones.
They were statues. Marble carved into the likeness of humans, but each one twice the normal height of one. They moved as though they were flesh and blood, however, with flexibility that seemed impossible with the polished, hard texture of their skin. Behind them was the figure wrapped in furs - it's face still obscured from view.
"Human. Not move. You rest," the statue holding the lantern was carved to look like a woman with tumbling, curly hair.
The other was carved to look like a man, and he carried a bowl of something steaming, "We sorry for Tulumarkiluimualiukatuinlia. They made travel, not think. They not understand human needs. We had send it alone."
The thing, Emile hadn't been able to understand its name, grumbled in the background. Emile got a subtle impression that it did indeed know how to think and was offended by the words of the first. He was too weak, to speak, however, so he just accepted the food that the statue fed him. It was deliciously salty.
The woman sat on the edge of the hot spring, sinking her stone legs into the steaming water as she placed the lantern down beside her, "We learn language from mind while you sleep. Still fuzzy. Still confusing. But we try explain. This place. Deep from sun. Made of magic breath. Father found. Long ago. Father made home. Father made Yuffaduamitlait. Yuffaduamitlait made others. Others made us. We made Tulumarkiluimualiukatuinlia."
"Yes, once many walked here," the man spoke as he spooned another mouthful of the hot goop, "Life. Water. Soul spring forth like meadow blooming. But no sun. Faded into quiet dark. Long time we spend. We decide we want new soul. But dark drain inspiration."
"Thousands years dark. Numb," the woman nodded, "Need new eyes. Eyes seen sun. We make Tulumarkiluimualiukatuinlia. Send them towards sun, far away. Find human. Bring human back. New soul. New eyes."
"You teach us already. We feel pain. Pain you carry."
"Alive again."
Emile looked up into the pupil-less eyes of the statue above him.
He didn't really understand what was going to come next, but he was tired, so he just passed out.
