I was thinking about which planes could be in the race set and something now occurred to me on one of them and based on the current story

I'm starting to think whatever plane duskmourn is on will be one of them

Remember the concept art for death race

Image

I'm looking at the black card again and when you look at the ghost thing about it its head is almost a perfect match to a lesser demon in Duskmourn.

And that plane is a high technology plane before it was taken over so it could be capable of having car like technology.

And ofcoarse

Valgavoth not only got enough info from tamiyos scroll, and also captured loot (the map of the entire mutiverse + every single omen path)

And also probably has that same system Jace got from the proft because the very ending Valgavoth can touch him since he touched duskmourn to help them escape
So here's my theory
SPOILER

I think atleast one plane will be Duskmourn

The words were two planes that never got a revisit since they premiered

Couldn't Duskmourn (whatever the plane name is) could be one I feel it's eligible because it's technically had a premier set and no revisit.

Second Valgavoth definitely has intentions to get Duskmourn to start consuming other planes so what if the other two planes in the race sets are the first ones he finds thanks to the scroll and loot.

Finally what if the prize of winning the race is loot.
It's just a theory but it just got me thinking

All of your premises line up - the goat skull is exactly what Duskmourn's non-Valg demons have going on and of course you point out true details from the existing story chapters. I just don't want this to be true because it technically fits with what MaRo said but in a weaselly way

i don't think duskmourne makes so much sense from a Race location sense.. if you think about racing video games, yknow you choose from diff tracks/locales at the start and they go thru city-scapes or natural landscapes usually. i guess in like a cartoony mario kart kinda thing you can get spooky zones (haunted mansion is a classic) but

i mean, duskmourne is a hostile environment. who would arrange and organize for a sport to be held thru that space?

one of the racers looking like it's from duskmourne doesn't support duskmourne as a setting too strongly because even if the set is set in only three specific planes the racers will be coming from all over rite

also, is there enuff variety in that single plane to support a diversity of courses? i imagine whichever planes this race is based in would have multiple diverse environments in which to race. i guess this doesn't hafta be true for all three of the planes. it might be worth including a third more specific plane just for the haunted mansion theme which is a pretty fun one, and the point that duskmourne is a more modern setting is a good point

i wonder about the other two.. ravnica/ new cappena seem obvious choices, also being modern and you gotta have city-scape courses. but since ravnica has been revisited plenty, that's out. oh wait, kaladesh. is that where we first got vechicles? and pilots? kaladesh seems even more likely than new cappena. there's also fiora for a city setting.

kylem i feel like could be likely since that place is sports themed. segovia has the hippodrome and kolbahan has the astral arena, but those are probably not modern enuff. but we haven't seen much of any of those places, so there's plenty of room to create features that help with the theme

i feel like kamigawa would've been perfect. a modern setting- neon city lights at night is a great race track aesthetic. alas, kamigawa has been revisited already once..

much like duskmourne, thunder junction is a one note setting, tho the desert is a nice environ. i don't know that this is podracing. similarly, wildfire would look awesome for a single course, but also lacks variety for course options. amonkhet adds pyramids to a desert course but not much else either.

i like ikoria and alara in terms of the variety they offer for course locales.

the other car featured in the concept art kinda makes me think of vryn's mage-rings, but i don't think that setting offers too much. the mage-rings would work as checks points, heh. the star-arches of arcavios would also be cool to drive through/ work as check points.

it's kinda meta how phyrexia's invasion of the multiverse has corrupted things. all the new sets have pushed into the modern and given us guns, cars and TVs, while the cards we play with have become more petroleum based, and Habro/WotC has really gone full late stage capitalism cash grab shark jumping, but hey it's the best game ever so what can ya do

all will be one??

Duskmourn as one of the planes seems unlikely, since it was literally the last set and they don't like spending multiple sets on one plane.

If we discount every new plane from the past year (Duskmourn, Thunder Junction, Bloomburrow), and every plane with a return already on the agenda (Lorwyn, Tarkir, Arcavios), we are left with the following planes that were "introduced in a premiere set but never revisited":
Alara
Amonkhet
Capenna
Ikoria
Kaladesh
Kaldheim
Mercadia
Rabiah
Rath
Serra's Realm
Ulgrotha

We can discard the last five out of hand, Rath and Serra's Realm no longer exist and Mercadia, Rabiah, and Ulgrotha are three of the least popular settings and are extremely unlikely to be returned to, so really the list is: Alara, Amonkhet, Capenna, Ikoria, Kaladesh, Kaldheim.

The other plane is supposed to be one which has never been visited in a premiere set. From this wording, I would expect it to be something fairly prominent Lore-wise or within supplemental sets. So I would expect it to be one of:
Vrynn
Fiora
Shandalar
Kylem

I think Kaladesh is the biggest slam dunk of all of these planes, as it already has a large vehicle theme and racing scene. Because of that, I would expect that Kaldheim would not be included, as having two Kal- planes would be confusing. Any of the other four planes would make a solid raceway. Alara has multiple shards with distinct terrain to navigate through, and the other three have small civilized enclaves surrounded by wilds full of hazards.

As far as the new plane goes, Vrynn and Shandalar seem like the most likely, as they have both played significant story roles.

My top pick is Kaladesh-Alara-Vrynn. Between Aether on Kaladesh, Etherium on Esper, and the Mage Rings on Vrynn, these settings abound with power sources, which opens up the opportunity for one of them needing to be replaced by another. The race could then be one against the clock and against hostile enemies, with our plucky group of heroes trying to deliver Etherium/Aether to Vrynn to keep the Mage Rings from collapsing, or something, while the villains attempt to cut them off and take the resources for themselves.

I do agree that that vehicle pictured looks to be of Duskmourn origin, but that doesn't mean it has to take place on Duskmourn - Valgavoth could be one of the villains behind the scenes, having sent some of his faithful into the race to fulfill his goal.

Respectfully, I agree with all your points except this one. This is exactly why Bloomburrow was placed where it was and the set between Death Race and Space Opera is Return to Tarkir. Creative knows what they're doing when it comes to varying settings.

ohh, yeah bloomburrow how could i forget, that's the one i actually kinda like haha

that set does still fit with the tropification and video gameification trend since phyrexian invaded the multiverse i could say.

also, while i obviously i would never speak negatively towards any ways in which people find their identity, im somewhat cynical towards the appeal towards furries as a market demographic. generally im wary of corporations waving flags of inclusivity as a way into people's wallets (ultimately! no fault to individual employees). at the same time im fascinated by the idea of planes that transform you when you enter them and how else this is going to be applied

if the race tracks in the Death Race pop between planes, if i drove into blooowburrow and then out again i guess i'd turn into a bunny and then back into a great ape as i pass thru the gates..

it's a trading card game, the reality of money's influence was always an essential component to the game, of course. (apologies for this tangent i'll get back to the Death Race again after this small rant on the death race of modern society). however! ... the commercialization is wild rn and the attempt to reach wider audiences is warping and transforming the game, and when i put on my detective hat i see the connection to phyrexian compleation

to bring this back to the Races, besides what possible planes we might visit there's also the fun question of what characters will show up and what their cars will look like. this is why WotC had the phyrexians open the omenpaths, so characters could move between locations. and it's the characters that people care about, and identify with.

im old school, i'd like to see Squee as a racer. with like a beetle shaped vehicle. Squee got that wacky energy that fits and he can crash repeatedly and come back every time lol. is there some characters that might object to a race track being built through their pristine wild landscapes? (remember that connection to the land is the source of all mana)

i just looked at Vivien Reid's fandom wiki and it says "Her mission is to destroy the cancer of civilization and restore the natural order to the Multiverse." soo i think it'd be cool if she showed up and tore %$#% up i dunno

regarding your story speculation, wildfire, i don't think the race will be a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World kinda situation, i think it'll be a literal structured race, but the stakes will probably mean something. probably like Ready Player One yknow

Note that as of Dominaria United, Squee is no longer immortal. He gets compleated, blows up dropping a mountain on himself and the Phyrexians that took over his goblin clan, ends up in a void talking to Salvation, and is given the option to die permanently or return to immortality. He instead chooses to return "one last time", becoming mortal for his final life.

I guess we'll see about the story, but having it be a literal structured race seems iffy to me.

huh. alright, yeah i have no idea what's going on with the lore of late so that's good to know

i think the structured race idea is not only likely but a welcome ramp down in stakes

Welp theory is dead I got the three planes

The revist planes is Kaladesh and Amonkhet (now there's a daretti card desparked but believe it or not the war of the spark mythic edition showed darreti went to kaladesh)

And the last one that never got a premier set is believe it or not….its not vryn
SPOILER

It's Muraganda

Maro did a blurb that "it may have dinosaurs" that's the only plane we know about that has dinosaurs that's never visited and that fits for bugfolk to come from
