September CCL Round 2

The Mechanics that Time will Forget

Welcome to the Card Creation League! Everyone is free to participate in either or both of the first two rounds. Come join us!

Theme

This month's theme is One-off Mechanics.

More one-off mechanics that you'll never see again! for this category, I want to see you all play around with mechanics that technically aren't keywords but are mechanics that the hat sets were built around. Good luck, some of these are kinda rough.

Challenge

Create a Card that cares about Suspects, Committing Crimes, Speed, Beholding or Manifesting Dread.

Important Clarifications
Show
Hide

- Make sure to include a rarity.

- In the case of Beholding specifically, it doesn't have to be "behold a dragon".
Mechanics Reminders
Show
Hide
Suspect: A suspected creature has menace and can't block.

Crime: Targeting opponents, anything they control, and/or cards in their graveyards is a crime.

Speed: Triggered by a card with Start Your Engines! ((If you have no speed, it starts at 1. It increases once on each of your turns when an opponent loses life. Max speed is 4.)

Behold [object]: To behold an [object], choose an [object] you control or reveal an [object] card from your hand.

Manifest Dread: Look at the top two cards of your library. Put one onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature and the other into your graveyard. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.

Legion's Lineup
Enchantment (R)
When this enchantment enters, suspect up to X target creatures.
Sacrifice this enchantment: Choose target suspected creature. All other suspected creatures are no longer suspected.
Finding half a dozen Gruul berserkers turned out to be easy enough: the hard part was getting them to stand still for thirty seconds.

@Aldrath, you have manifest dread listed as an option in the bold header, but you have behold listed in the mechanic reminders section instead of manifest dread. Are people allowed to use either option?

Reckless Rider 1r
Creature - Goblin Pilot (U)
Menace, haste
Start your engines!
This creature gets +X/+0, where X is your speed.
Whenever this creature deals combat damage to a player, sacrifice it if you have max speed.
"If you go fast enough, you can run over just about anything."
1/1

Edit: Dang it! I forgot there's already a card named Reckless Racer. Had to change the name. :(

@Flatline didn't mean to have that, that was part of an earlier draft, but you know what, screw it, we'll have both. Beholding isn't going to show up later in the contest anyway and round one had like 9 options, what's one more for round 2?

Azobio, Agony Amplifier 2GU

While manifesting dread, look at the top three cards of your library instead of the top two. (You still choose only one card to manifest. Put all the rest in your graveyard.)

An evershifting statue representing all the different ways you could die, hidden in the most inaccessible room of all of Duskmourn.

Turtle racer is funny. Very wordy but that's a natural issue of speed cards. Putting stun counters on untapped permanents is always a bit unintuitive and usual templating avoids it. Skulk + SYE is an interesting combo. Mechanically interesting, but not very intuitive at all.

"You have to watch your back in the city of sin or you'll soon find yourself in the garbage bin." - Aeon Wynne
'Against' an opponent is new terminology but easy enough to understand. I'm very hesitant about this sort of thing. Infinite-comboes everyone to death with Soltari Guerrillas, and autokills an opponent with lesser health with cards like Champion of the Weird or Spatial Binding. In general, this is far too variable in how much it will end up doing.

Sort of a straightforward take on max speed being bad: you don't even get recompense when it crashes out? Balance wise this is fine.

Very generic name and impenetrable flavour. The same kind of 'committing-crimes-as-triggers' that ends up being combo bait. Far too cute for this round and not a good card as a result.

Interesting: best when you have a legend out but still usable if it's merely in your hand. Awkward when you want to time this: the first effect suggests doing it before combat, the latter suggests doing it during. Far too many games are going to end because you got two tokens past blockers and then reveal an Eldrazi.

Now this is a fun card. Interesting twist on manifesting dread, slow but solid value, and great flavour. A bit lacking on immediate rewards, otherwise no notes.
