Asked this somewhere else already, but maybe it's more appropriate here: Do the tokens created by Face Yourself check whether you have a planeswalker in play at the end of the turn they are created or (worse) at the end of every following turn? Initially assumed it was the first, but now understand it to mean the latter.

Yes, it is the latter (more or less). It checks every end step including the turn it was created and every subsequent turn. Here are a couple of examples of different ways these types of triggers are worded:
Arms Race - This is part of the effect creating the token and checks once: the next End Step
Bellowing Mauler - This will check on every one of your End Steps.
Arc Runner - This is worded very similarly to Face Yourself. And this checks every End Step (not just yours) as it doesn't limit itself to any specific End Step
Face Yourself grants the tokens an ability that is going to always check every End Step (not just yours; *every* End Step) whether you have a Planeswalker. And it will check twice since it is an Intervening...If clause. So, if you don't have a Planeswalker at the Beginning of the End Step, it will trigger. It will then check again on resolution so if you can get one before the trigger resolves, you will not have to sac it. Probably won't come up much but gives you a little flexibility.
