IIW: Spooky equipment/vehicles
Of course the ostrich has haste. An interesting card, and basically what I had in mind for the challenge. The abilities together somehow seem to exemplify both the ostrich's great speed and alertness and it's, ah, rather gangly appearance.

Pheasant Cuckoo

When Pheasant Cuckoo enters the battlefield, draw a card.
3/3

IIW: the GOAT
Ah! Something that I would've come up for this challenge! Bonus points for brood parasitism, but I must deduct a point as well; the pheasant coucal, a large and showy ground-cuckoo, isn't a brood parasite! I AM MISTAKEN! There is another cuckoo, named the pheasant cuckoo, which is indeed a parasite! (Also bonus points because I like cuckoos and have Dire Coucal in my card name file but haven't come up with a proper card befitting it).

Straightforward card, not much to say. Seems powerful in Limited with that first strike plus food-making. Seems like a great signpost.

Simple design, but interesting. That mana ability is a rules trap, though. Still, fits all together, especially with the peacock's "eye" motif.

Ok, to be frank, I meant non-Human animals, but that's my fault. As worded this entry does fulfill the requirements.

Interesting little gimmicky card, and seems capable of great potential value. I can appreciate the cleverness behind this card rewarding YOU for paying your taxes, and investigating when you don't.

That being said, shouldn't there be a penalty for not paying taxes? This card rewards you either way.

And as worded, does that second ability investigate even if the opponent's spell or ability doesn't have a cost you can pay?

I can always appreciate Wile E. Coyote being blown up (repeatedly). Still, I wouldn't exactly call Wile. E. here a non-magical creature, given the things he's been through.

After careful deliberation, I gotta give the win to Megiddo, for referencing brood parasitism and the only person I have ever come across who referenced the pheasant cuckoo in anything.

HM to Juancu for his well thought-out card. It would have won, had it been not been for my predilection for parasitic birds and DFCs.

thanks, glad you appreciated the brood parasitism mechanic. I think there's a lot of real-world animal kingdom behaviors that could be made into mechanics. This might be a challenge to revisit some time.

The GOAT, by the way, means not goats but rather "greatest of all time." though I won't stop you or disqualify you for a good goat card.

GOAT Rating: indisputable.

Mechanical Rating: The "down" mechanic does actually translate pretty well but only if we look at it from a first-and-goal situation, which might imply that this mechanic should be entitled the "red zone," as such: "When Brom Tady, Quarter Back enters the battlefield, enter the red zone." Echoes of Venture here, with an easier condition to advance, which I like. I'll not worry about the specifics of each down here, since there's a lot of room to tweak that during development process. I'd probably take a pass at this before shipping to make sure that it's easy to remember exactly how this works.
