Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I guess I'm the only one excited about Witch Enchanter I guess witch enchanter is, for me, what Fell the Profane is for Toshi . FTP is 1 mana more than the marginal-playable Hero's Downfall . Witch enchanter is 1 mana more than Reclamation Sage , which is much more popular, but honestly...I'm off r...

Can somebody clarify Nadu, Winged Wisdom?
Because it gives creatures an ability, does that mean the "triggers twice each turn" is for each creature? So if you have 3x creatures you can get 6x the triggers each turn?

This card seems absurd.
Yes and yes.

What a horrific card.

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

metastatic evangel can piss off btw. I hate proliferate so much. It is obvious that they shouldn't print way stronger combinations of front and back. But when both front and back are just this, why should i even opt for it? I don't know what you mean by "just this". BGR is currently the 3...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

But the point is that Bala Ged Recovery // Bala Ged Sanctuary is up and by far the more flexible card, only costs only 1 mana more than its non-flipable predecessor, I just listed all the reasons why the comparison is apt. Yes, there's a 2 mana difference (with, say, Go for the Throat ) compared to...

Having a hard time imagining most black decks not running Fell the Profane in most scenarios. Having a hard time imagining a lot of black decks running it, given it is the color with land type payoffs. Bubbling Muck , Cabal Coffers , Cabal Stronghold , Crypt Ghast , Defile , Dread Presence , Mutila...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I'm working on my GBU review for the set, and while I'll save most of my opinions for the published version, I wrote a little ditty about Arna Kennerüd, Skycaptain that I thought I'd share with y'all. I like big swords and I cannot lie. Specifically, swords of X and Y. When a girl walks in, and effe...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Jetfire, Ingenious Scientist

I don't hate transformers QUITE as much as some of the completely-outside-hasbro stuff, but yeah it's pretty heinous. In theory I don't hate the complexity of the transforming, but most of them don't really have a compelling build-around. Jetfire is particularly meh I think. Artifact creature +1/+1 ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Otawara hits broad spectrum and has cost reduction and can be loamed. And no life loss. And blue. It's as close to infinity better than this thing as possible. "Why do people play Infernal Grasp over Unsummon ? Unsummon costs less mana and doesn't have any life loss! It's as close to infinity ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I mean, ditching Veteran Explorer for Flare of Cultivation would be quite hilarious... Something with a death trigger would be ideal, though veteran explorer kinda mitigates the mana advantage you're getting from flare. 2 mana when everyone else has 1 is a lot more exciting than 4 mana when everyon...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Just found out prerelease is going to be $120 NZD. Yikes. Luckily there aren't THAT many cards I'm hyped for. There are a lot of strong cards, but cards that actually speak to me...eh. Random thoughts, because the flare cycle IS something I'm interested in - I think the green one, Flare of Cultivati...

Re: SCD: Rhystic Study

Maybe it's a semantic quibble over "reasonable." The problem as you present it here - that it's difficult to determine if a specific in-game action increases or decreases your chances of winning - applies to virtually all forms of interaction and card draw, though. It's true, moreso than ...

Re: Phelddagrif: Show Weakness to Hide Your Strength

I'm pretty off it tbh. Counterspells are a necessary evil - they're the only solution to certain types of threats - but those card types aren't usually those kinds of threats. There are obviously exceptions like thoracle and hoof but I don't see hoof coming down quickly enough that 1v2 mana is a big...

Re: Diminishing returns on "better" cards

This is part of why I hate tuning and instead just start building a new deck.

I'll finish the decklist in a hurry, tell myself "it's fine, I'll see how it plays and then move stuff around" and then 9 times out of 10 I don't bother. Just apply lessons learned to the next build.

Re: Cosima, God of the Voyage - MUC OTK [decklist up]

Alright, I had been working on my solidarity grixis build, but the RCotD convinced me to revisit this bad boy instead. Looking back through my previous decklists I do think this is one of the strongest (or at least the strongest potential) in a stealthy way - obviously child of alara is strong, but ...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

arna kennerud looks pretty disgusting. Copied swords anyone? It kinda reads more like a Mana Reflection + Phyrexian Arena since you get the mana on your turn for creatures and sorceries. Which sounds pretty good in that context. I almost think the complexity of "beginning phase" is turnin...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cosima, God of the Voyage

In general, I would say that the Kaldheim MDFC gods are designed as an answer to the legend rule. Most legends are poor to draw in multiples - if you play a second one, it will just die. Wotc in 1993: I have a cool idea for a downside mechanic - unique creatures, whose downside is that there can on...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cosima, God of the Voyage

I hate the design of basically all the Kaldheim gods. In theory they sound cool. In practice, they all feel like I have to read two books before the game even starts. Then, I have to guess which book is actually relevant. With a few exceptions, I think you could treat them as two separate cards and...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

See Dirk, if you never learn how to actually play the game well. Then you don't have to deal with trying to find a deck weak enough to not win against your play group like you and I. Sometimes I envy them. In theory the problem can be solved with sufficient narcotics, but unfortunately I do need to...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cosima, God of the Voyage

What I find funny about Cosima is how it seems like the majority of people build around the absolutely god-awful back half of the card, instead of the pretty-dang-strong front half. The issue with the back half...well, one of them...is that in mono-blue it's pretty hard to enable playing multiple la...

Kozilek looks waaay less obnoxious than ulamog or emmy. Honestly pretty weak by modern standards. Sure it's a lot of power/toughness but it has minimal immediate impact and it costs 9. I can't follow your inscrutable grading scale, I only understand opinions if they're filtered through the aesthetics of classic 1960s westerns.
