Re: Deck Power Level Thread

I do think a reverse scale like turn-to-effectively-win-in-a-vacuum is better than a fixed scale. There's less information, sure, but it's likelier that what's shared is not subject to bias. Consistency then becomes an important marker though, with cEDH representing high consistency & low turn-...

Re: Deck Power Level Thread

When I'm playing a batch of games, the only thing I care about is that all the decks are winning or effectively winning (IE: stax/control) around the same turn number. That's probably the baseline metric almost everyone cares about, and it's a number everyone can come up with, not off of feelings, b...

Re: Deck Power Level Thread

The intent of my list wasn't so much to be the solution to the overarching issue of power level discussions, but more to get on a trajectory towards solving the previously mentioned issue of cramming every deck from precon to cEDH in the 5-10 slots, by making a precon 5. I thought that the most comm...

Re: Deck Power Level Thread

It'd be based around the sort of general community consensus that needn't be explicitly decreed by council. A lot of former bogeymen would probably fall into 5-6 at this point. 5-6 are the ranks for pub stompers and noob killers, which I'd imagine Zur now falls under. Under my list, which doesn't ev...

Re: Deck Power Level Thread

We could probably fill in the gaps on a 1-10: 10 - Best known commanders in the format, flawlessly constructed without any constraints. 9 - Best known commanders, slightly less than flawlessly constructed (financial constraints perhaps) 8 - Eminently playable commander (perhaps a known value engine)...

Re: Deck Power Level Thread

If we do end up using the 1-10 scale, I'd put the precons, bad and good, at 0 & 1, respectively, 10 for cEDH, and use 2-9 for the business end of the scale. I don't think any real thought space needs to be devoted to ranking anything worse. Does it matter if ladies facing left is a negative two ...

Re: Zirda, Patron Goddess of Trash Artisanry (Boros Artifact Aristocrats)

If I were given this companion and told to build a deck out of it, I would instinctively seek to build it as a companion to another Boros commander. Osgir, the Reconstructor deals with artifacts and meets the companion requirements. Then I'd gatherer for all cards that have non-mana activated abilit...

Re: Averna, Roulette Croupier - Cascade Chaos

It's just how I am. I'm compulsively monogamous in anything that allows it - I suppose mostly on display with Magic and fighting games, where I pick one game and one character and dedicate to it (Guilty Gear Strive/Testament currently). As far as commander goes, I want a Rocky story. The deck can't ...

Re: Averna, Roulette Croupier - Cascade Chaos

I want, I desperately want, one "pet deck" that's more than just a deck, but almost a facet of my character. A friend of mine has this with Azusa. Dirk of these forums seems to have this with Pheldagryff. I want one deck that I tweak and optimise perpetually. That's the primary reason I st...

Re: Baeloth Barrityl, Raised by Giants

I've heard good things about Sol Ring . The ramp package here, as people might suspect, was selected more for thematic purposes than performance - as was removal only being fight. I've put together decklists with all the commander mox, sol ring, etc - I built one once. The ramp here, in my mind, doe...

Re: Averna, Roulette Croupier - Cascade Chaos

I've always had a bit of envy for people willing to simply build with what they've got. A friend of mine does that - probably doesn't even have a TCG account. Just builds with whatever trades, drafts and packs get him. Me, I don't even keep a collection. I have a deck, and I totally disregard prior ...

Copying an X spell preserves the value of X. You're all set. X is typically only forced to be 0 when the card was cast via shenanigans and X couldn't be set.

Re: [MCD]Arcane Adaptation vs Maskwood Nexus

Like every other Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder player, I included Conspiracy , typically naming zombies, because while the deck punished creating thrulls, my lists often rewarded making zombies. I'd never make a tribal deck that didn't have enough native support without cards like these. I've never in...

Re: LULU WILL KILL YOU

Is Lulu the Pheldagryff of the next generation? The card appeals to me for the same reason - the cuteness. I dabbled in brewing Lulu before settling on Baeloth, but I never considered going Orzhov. All my efforts were Selesnya or Azorius. I couldn't make them click. You get two thumbs up from me for...

Re: Your deck sucks (review request thread)

Just brewed and purchased a new deck, because my prior deck wasn't suitable competition for any but the most novelty of theme decks. I'm keeping it, but I don't really consider it a Magic deck, but something more akin to a format spinoff with extensive use of outside game pieces like the Ixalan boar...

Re: Which do you like more?

I'm going with Resculpt. Theoretically, blue isn't supposed to be able to permanently handle resolved permanents, and Resculpt takes care of two of the primary ones. Extra options are almost always worth extra mana in my book. 4/4 vs 3/3 seems like something I'd care about in modern, but not command...

Re: TCGPlayer to acquire ChannelFireball

No more easy and reliable outlet to sell singles back to. TCG could ship you a near mint, and you could sell it back unopened as a near mint and they'd reclass it as lightly played or worse. The difference in the seller's grading and the buyer's grading is annoying. I stopped selling after it became...

Well done. As a Connecticut resident, I'm well aware of the regulations you speak of. Re: Atraxa, Praetors' Voice - STAX BEATDOWN - Artifacts Only

Discovered this thread because of Pokken's deck criticism thread, and while I'm not in the slightest qualified to make suggestions on it, I just had to point out that it gets two thumbs up from me for only using permanents. I'm a huge fan of all permanents decklists, and I'm doubly a fan of decks th...

Re: Your deck sucks (review request thread)

So, here's a deck that actually sucks by all conventional metrics. It's a Dungeons & Dragons deck that wins by sacrificing artifact tokens to the commander, but really just wants to navigate Lego Scrooge, Huey, Duey and Louie around the various dungeons, while rolling D&D dice and making use...

Re: Which do you like more?

Abrupt Decay - costs less, can't be countered, hits more types, and three or less is pretty relevant in today's tendency for EDH decks to feature beach bods rather than dad bods.

Already opted for the latter, myself, but opinion is interesting.

Re: Your thoughts on decklist and resource discussion?

If we're going to give the rotating deck of the moment a try again, it'd probably be helpful for each deck author to be proactive and tell us what the point is. This is also the case for regular forum deck list postings as well. I'm guilty as anyone. I post in a forum ostensibly intended for deck ad...
