Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
I think some of that depends on the deck. A deck led by Chainer or Meren doesn't care as much about efficiency since they re-use cards at a much lower cost. Karador and Muldrotha actually have to pay for their spells. Now, Karador only gets 1 per turn so efficiency isn't as important but something l...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
Pokken hits the nail on the head there. Yeah, the total mana investment is the same, being able to pay 2 mana now and 1 on a subsequent turn is preferable to paying 1 now and 2 when I actually need the effect. Either one allows for being a political tool and once it goes through a turn cycle, I only...

Re: Syr Konrad questions
For the Living Death question: yes you would. Since you exile the cards from the graveyard before sacrificing the creatures on the field, Konrad is around to see those cards leave the graveyard. In the Elixir case: yes again. They leave the graveyard when they go to the library so Konrad will trigge...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
I had the Excavator in the deck until I removed it on 06/01. I cut it as part of this larger set of changes here when I was tracking the deck on MTGSalvation. It ended up being cut due to needing room for other cards as well as never really being relevant. With Bazaar and Fetches I had expected it t...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
For something completely different, how do you feel about Rankle, Master of Pranks? My focus would mostly be on options 1 and 3 of the trigger. An edict and a discard on every swing is an obviously powerful effect, there's enough card draw and recursion to power through it, haste plays well with th...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
I am on board with the Sanitarium for the reasons you mentioned. My main issues are not tapping for colored mana and filtering my opponents' hands. And Vesuva can be basically any land I want it to be and being able to copy Bojuka Bog or Diamond Valley can be important so it is tough to look at it a...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
I feel like if they let you assemble necro+sun titan+koko+sac outlet they get what they get, honestly. That's a pretty wombo combo, and they can remove any piece to stop it. This probably isn't the worst mind set to be in. This does require 4 pieces (all of which are very vulnerable) and it doesn't...

Re: Deck Tag - Background Color
Does that apply only to card links in deck tags or all card links? I have a lot of "card" tags being used in my thread and the background is light so I am wondering if a dark theme would mess those up too?

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
That might be a good point. Kokusho is basically never used "fairly". I have had games where I have looped him 3 or 4 times with Chainer prior to adding in Necromancy. Because of the most recent game, and because Kokusho has been a staple of the deck for a long time, my first though was th...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
I played last night and ended up doing well again. I played against Baird, Steward of Argive , Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain , and Sevinne, the Chronoclasm Baird got off to a pretty fast start with their artifacts and Jhoira, while slow, was starting to stabilize with a few artifact token makers of t...

Deck Tag - Background Color
I have been messing around with a Primer for Karador and I came across something that would be nice to have for the Deck Tag. In the thread, I use the "box" tag for a variety of reasons and this gives me the option of specifying a background color. Is it possible to have the deck tag do th...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
toctheyounger I am with you on Field of the Dead. I think the incidental advantage we get from it (maybe 1 zombie per turn) isn't the worst, but you hit the nail on the head with the disadvantages you face with it. It enters tapped and doesn't tap for any of our colors which means...

Re: Small yet satisfying plays
The other day I was playing my first game with my new Alela, Artful Provocateur deck and it came down to just me and the Korvold, Fae-Cursed King player. They had set up a sequence where they could cast Plaguecrafter and get it back with Journey to Eternity and then, once it transformed, Atzal, Cave...

Re: Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
I got to play this deck last night and it worked out pretty well. I was playing against Gaddock Teeg . Chulane, Teller of Tales , and Xantcha, Sleeper Agent . Worth noting that this store uses a mulligan/draw rule of draw 10, shuffle 3 back in. I think it is dumb so I didn't participate but everyone...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
I finally got a game in with this deck again after a fairly long absence. And it went pretty well. I played against a Rhys the Redeemed deck and a Gaddock Teeg deck. It is worth noting that the store I went to has a ridiculous draw/mulligan procedure. They draw 10 and shuffle back 3. It is dumb so I...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
Yeah, that is the biggest problem. Dawn is easy to just make a swap with Chupacabra but anything else I would want to slot out for Night is better than Night in most cases. Ironically. Chups might have been the cut for that one too.

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
So, if I try to look at this objectively, here is where I see the pros and cons of each being: Chups: Pros Comes down earlier Can be tutored off of Recruiter if needed Easier to cast Allows for another creature off of P. Hulk Cons Small body Can only destroy creatures Cavalier Pros Bigger body Can a...

Re: Lord Windgrace
My main line of thinking is being able to Entomb for it and getting it back or just responding to the trigger (with Reclamation at least). It is hard to "loop" though which is a legitimate concern. I do agree that it is a good card and even with those "limitations" I think it is ...

Re: Karador, Ghost Chieftain
Yep, exactly. If I could cast it off of Karador I think it would push it over the edge into "include" territory. But it really ends up being better than other removal because of the interaction with the Shaman and Reclamation but losing out on hitting other nonland permanents is a signific...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Timetwister
I slot it into pretty much every blue deck I have. While refilling my opponents isn't that great, I have more often than not heard at least one opponent say "I would have won next turn if you hadn't twistered" or "I could stop what you are doing". I find that I almost always bene...

Re: Niv-Mizzet, Parun
With the release of Modern Horizons, we get a new Twister effect in Echo of Eons . While I believe I am getting close to exceeding the number of Twister/Wheel effects I want, I figured I would try this one out to see how well it does. To make room, I decided to get rid of Burnished Hart for now. I l...

Re: Lord Windgrace
I have decided I really want to try out Liliana, Dreadhorde General to see how good she can be in this deck. While Death's Majesty can help fill the graveyard a little more and can reanimate, I think I value the draw power, and chump blockers, over the reanimation for now. I am going to try it over ...

Re: Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
I added in Sword of Sinew and Steel and cut Avatar of Fury . Based on the last comments, I feel this is the best option for making room for this Sword and I definitely wanted to make room for it. I didn't really see anything in ELD that stood out to me as something I wanted to include so I won't be ...

pokken I think you are right in that aspect. It definitely wasn't something that is going to force me to remove the Ouphe. It was just a interesting anecdote, and a situation I hadn't thought of until in game. Overall, the loss of my Pod is likely worth any resistance the Ouphe of...

Re: Cataclysmic Gearhulk questions
Yep, you can do that. If any permanent has more than one type, you get to choose which type you are choosing it for the Gearhulk's ability. In this way you could end up with 3 creatures if you wanted: an artifact creature, enchantment creature, and "normal" creature. And the Active Player ...
