My first thought was that this doesn't seem particularly uncommon. The templating is also a little off, unless there's a good reason, I definitely prefer the current trend of "ability, other creatures have ability" to this. Outside of that, it's a fairly strong defensive card, and the flavor of "get hurt, alert the watch" is very nice.Mergatroid_Jones wrote: ↑3 years agoTholbian, Militia Bombast

I'm not a huge fan of the symmetrical nature of this. While I get that the second ability counts all soldiers, so it synergizes with adding soldiers to the opponent's battlefield, a 3 mana cost activation for a pump doesn't feel like enough upside to make up for what is a pretty severe drawback. It also doesn't make a ton of flavor sense to me: why are your opponent's soldiers showing up for your rally point? It is a neat concept, but I feel like it needs to either be only on your upkeep, or lean harder into the activated ability (maybe making it "creatures you control" instead of target creature?) to offset the drawback of handing out tokens.
I like it. I also like the small, but flavorful delineation between this and similar black effects (Undying Evil and the like), where like Brought Back, you get to pick who to bring back, rather than having to select a creature on the battlefield. The fact that it's effectively "Double persist" makes it an interesting fit into a set with or without that mechanic, and of course points for a Black Knight reference.spacemonaut wrote: ↑3 years agoJust a Flesh Wound

Persistence is certainly a valid theme for this challenge, and persist does a pretty good job of it. Initially I was worried it might be too strong for common, but after thinking about it, it's effectively a Hunted Witness that trades -1/-0 and lifelink on the token for +0/+1 on the initial body. Solid card.Mergatroid_Jones wrote: ↑3 years agoOathsworn Veteran

Setting aside the name, it's an interesting card. The tokens can theoretically help with one of the issues Exalted can run into: when the opponent has chump blockers for your giant attacker. I am a little concerned about it being effectively 3 extra damage a turn for WW, but the requirements are steep enough that it's probably fine? And there's plenty of knobs to tweak if need be.Flatline wrote: ↑3 years agoI am aware that this card would need to be renamed.....

I'm... genuinely unsure if this card works within the rules. It's a replacement effect that operates from a hidden zone, and can only occur in the middle of a spell or ability resolving, when no one has priority. Typically such effects have only been used to replace where the card itself goes when discarded, not to interrupt an unrelated ability. There's also a genuine question of whether or not you can chain them in response to a single fight. I'm also not sure it provides enough utility? Typically, a 1/3 is not going to be enough to win, or even tie, most fights. So most of the time, this simply trades "losing your creature" for "discard Bronzeshield defender from your hand", which isn't nothing, but certainly isn't a strong case for making the rules complications worth it.OneAndOnly wrote: ↑3 years agoBronzeshield Defender --

I definitely like the idea of a recurring Battalion soldier. I also like the requirement to cast it, and the psuedo-haste of having it come in tapped and attacking. It does feel a bit odd in red/white, as self recursive creatures tend to end up in black, and I'm not sure it's right at Uncommon, but overall a very cool card.
Ahh, the classic "fling someone through the air" catapult. Always a cute card, typically ends up feeling more red than white. I'm not sure on the cost there, as 3 dudes for 4 mana is already a pretty decent rate, even before you make it generic and add evasion granting. Still, decent execution on the idea, and having it come with it's own ammo is not a bad idea in general.Togs wrote: ↑3 years agoTactical Catapult

Mumakil Platform: I enjoy the mechanic of this being crewed by a lot of creatures, but it requires no elephant to crew it and can just move on its own! I feel like it could be an equipment or require at least one elephant to crew it.
Thrashing Elephant: One mode is available turn 1, and I appreciate that picking either of the first modes sets up another elephant for the last mode. This could be very strong in some fast environments where you don't have to worry about one less land mana screwing you.
Mammoth Skeleton: Buff! This is a lot of damage to be able to recur, but I appreciate the slowdown connected to it.
Trumpeting Herald: The templating could be more compact (it doesn't need the *if it hasn't been cast") but it's a good card and the flavor is cute.
Ivorytusk Chief: Both the triggered and static abilities are ones I'd love to see more of. Having them both on the same card might be quite strong. Too strong? Playtesting would tell. It's a great concept and dropping either the trample or the lifelink is an available knob for balancing.
Trunk of the Elephant King: Flavor is excellent. I appreciate that this is a 3/3. I also appreciate there's some tricks available, like being able to animate it while its ETB is on the stack in order to turn it into a 4/4 for a turn.
War Elephant: [angery trumpeting noises] [gimli shouting]
