I find non-mechanical / suggestive challenges are a better prompt than very specific Magic IIWs. I completely tune out when things roll around to "base a card off of a background character from a pre-Mending novel."

Starting off my (amazing) challenge with a banger. I like when cards take the simple route, and you pulled off a top-down and mechanically unique design without even having to go above common.
In contrast, I can't help but feel that this bad boy is overly complex. That's a lot of abilities and the card is probably pretty strong, but doesn't interest me much sorry.Mergatroid_Jones wrote: ↑3 years agoCythea, Vineyard of the Gods

IIW: Based on one of these randoms: Reach Through Mists, Young Pyromancer, Druid of the Cowl, or Treasure Hunter.
Interesting angle, is red actually allowed to give its opponents life as a downside? As a meme card it's fine but as an un-card it's probably not very much fun to actually play, though I suspect you weren't expecting me to judge this seriously.Lorn Asbord Schutta wrote: ↑3 years agoGrapeshot (not Time Spiral one)

Oh, do the doubling triggers infinitely stack on themselves if you can enchant the same land multiple times ? If so then there are some fun political things you can do with this card. This is actually fairly neat as far as symmetrical ramp cards go.OneAndOnly wrote: ↑3 years agoCiarra Valley Grapes --

I preferred this card back when the first option made a fixed 3 food tokens instead. It reminded me of a certain other design which, since it was made by me, is objectively perfect. I got you give you kudos though, for proving that great minds really do think alike.chetoos wrote: ↑3 years agoHedonic Feeding

Grapeshot every turn! Very cool actually, I think this version of the effect is legitimately viable for non-degenerate storm combo decks so it's not as binary as the original grapeshot, so kudos for that.

Oh I bet you think you're real clever over there big boy. Well you are.
Is the flavor that the wine makes the creature pass out drunk, and the vinegar just straight up kills them ? Alright alright, I can get behind this. I think it's clever how you expanded on the standard food ability into this card instead of tacking it on in the end like it's usually done.Lorn Asbord Schutta wrote: ↑3 years agoFermented Grapes

Ayy this is the proper way to do food tokens imo, no need to sacrifice for additional effects, just add additional effects to the normal sacrifice ability.

This seems quite strong, especially with fetchlands available. The ability to farily consistently have a 5/4 flash on turn 3 seems extremely strong, although I expect that in limited, it would probably be fine? This feels like it could also include white somehow, but is fine in Golgari. I'm not sure quite how I feel about this - it's definitely a unique set of abilities, but it punishes things at an odd time for me.
I really don't like the idea of defensive poison as an archetype. I'd prefer that this give the creature a -1/-1 counter or proliferate (but not both). I would expect that just leads to board stalls in a more feel-bad way than usual.Flatline wrote: ↑3 years agoBlightvine Thicket

I like the flavor here! I kinda wish that the monkey didn't require that the Plant had reach for backwards compatability purposes, but it's internally cohesive, and seems like a reasonable uncommon.Sporegorger_Dragon wrote: ↑3 years agoVine-Swinging Monkey

Thank you, it's an honor to be chosen as a Nexus Flamingo winner!
I'm afraid I can't give the same sort of in-depth analysis as the other judges, so my judgement is going to be a bit more arbitrary, going more for overall feel of the card as a cohesive and flavorful whole.
Have fun!
