Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

It makes sense given the constraints. They've been burned by Birthing Pod before, and adding a whole additional sentence about needing to have a mana value of same/one more would have added a ton of words to an already crowded card. So they can't restrict it based on mana value, therefore they need ...

So what would "can't have anything opponent controls attached to it" be? Flavorfully sounds green.
I'd probably consider it a subset of Hexproof, but it's an ability that's so small it's not really defined in the color pie.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - True-Name Nemesis

Written as protection. Naturally it's blue, rather than white. The reasoning for it being blue rather than white is actually pretty solid: This doesn't really play like Protection at all. Protection from an opponent plays more like Hexproof+Unblockable, both of which are solidly more Blue than Whit...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange

Hey yall! So with the announcement a while ago about some cards from the un-sets becoming commander legal, I thought I would finally sit down and start thinking if there are any zombie cards I need to grab now. I have collected a couple that I really love and think would be fantastic additions to t...

Re: Is White getting better?

I think a pervasive, and incorrect, view is that Wizards prints "broken" cards on purpose, so they just have to do that on purpose in white. But that's not how any of this happens. If it was, why would Dockside Extortionist, the card being cited over and over again as an example of a broke...

That would be quite the feat, since Lotus Bloom is neither an instant or a sorcery.

Re: Zedruu the Greatest of All Time

Yes. I was especially keen once I realized I was running Magosi, the Waterveil . If you skip the extra turn from Chance for Glory with Magosi, the Waterveil , then the "lose the game" trigger never happens. That is sick. I'm used to this sort of effect making you lose the game at the next...

Re: Why Ruination is my least favorite card

So basically tldr is that we need more ruination. As explained, that's the world where nonbasics that aren't Gaea's Cradle become basically untenable. Maybe you run fetches with one triome. But all the budget fixing, guildgates up to temples and painlands become pretty risky and not worth playing. ...

Re: Why Ruination is my least favorite card

Personally, as more stuff like those two comes out, the less and less I buy the "only blue can interact with the stack" argument. Responding to wrath of God with a heroic intervention or Teferi's Protection is frequently *better* than countering it. Right but how many of these effects are...

Re: Why Ruination is my least favorite card

I really wish WotC would rework the colour pie to allow all colours to counter some spells. Stuff like Withering Boon and Illumination can sometimes come in handy. It's lame but it'll be probably a decade before there's critical mass if they started today. They could do more heroic intervention and...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

For anybody complaining about preview seasons being too close together, I'd note that preview season *proper* doesn't start for another month. They've just gotta give some indication of what the set is about to retailers, so they can gauge how much to order.

Dislike: Anara, Wolvid Familiar - I hate this inclusion kind of a lot. I get that it can protect your commander from some of your own red sweepers but you don't actually have that many that will kill him. Also........ I don't know the rules but if she gets swept I think your commander will still ha...

I always felt like people were too harsh on the flavor of this card. If you're trying to capture the flavor of "Reculsive Mad Scientist", you could do much worse than this.

Meh, I am not a huge fan of this card just for boringness, but anything that starts to make close to its mana cost in bodies gets my Phyrexian Altar juices flowing so I can't completely hate it :P Huh... it sure loops real strongly with Altar and Haakon, Stromgald Scourge , doesn't it? Makes infini...

Re: Why so few OG kamigawa reprints?

1 - Bushido? Gameplay issues? Even the article seems to disagree with this. It says it's simple and plays well. They just didn't want to put it on a bunch of stuff. No real explanation why, though. Would play really nicely into the "tradition" side of "modern versus tradition" f...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cloud Cover

The "an opponent controls" part is the dealbreaker for me. If I'm running a blink deck... who's going to randomly target my ETB creatures when I've got this out? So it's effectively "my other permanents have (bad) hexproof", which just isn't good enough for me at 4 mana. While it...

Re: Marchesa, the Black Rose: Affinity

If someone board wipes Rabbit Battery while it's attached to a creature, I don't believe it dies at all. It would become a creature when the one it was attached to leaves the battlefield. It depends on the nature of the board wipe. If it's a Wrath of God or similar, you're right. I believe Tevesh w...

Re: Okay, we need to talk about the Shrines.

Personally, I think the secondary wincon for Go-Shintai of Life's Origin is pretty easy to determine: Go wide tokens. You're already pumping out 1/1's for every shrine you find, and 2 of those go hard on pumping out 1/1 spirits. Throw in a Cathars' Crusade or Celestial Ancient and you're cooking wit...

Nashi, Moon Sage's Scion feels like a flavor home run to me, and I'm confused where the idea that a Nezumi teenager was "clearly" going to be a blue artificer comes from. He's presented as a kid doing scavenging and looking up to a sneaky ninja, both of which are well reflected on his car...

Wait, so they made new myojin, specifically in a commander product, but left them nonfunctional as commanders? Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I suspect WotC is extreme correcting (only time will tell if we're over-correcting) on the parasitism of OG Kamigawa: - Because Samurai and Ninja can't be printed in just any old set, they're making sure all the new ones also synergize with Warriors and Rogues which appear in droves every set. - To...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

On the other hand, The Restoration of Eiganjo looks reasonable - not powerful, but if you can take advantage of the discard it can be a decent bit of value. I guess the fail case is you discard the fetched land to recur something, then get the body on the flip side. Just a quick note: the "som...

Well that's incredibly %$#%. As the saying goes, if you've got 1 Nazi at dinner and 10 other people, you've got 11 Nazi's. If Seb was truly that committed to his 'ideals', he'd find a different rally and ensure that no Nazis were welcome there. Sadly, he didn't. I won't be shocked when he doubles do...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

March of Otherworldly Light is interesting, the fact that Prismatic Ending can destroy stuff on curve is what makes it so good, this can't unless you're willing to to get a 1 for 2. I thought maybe it might work in a combo deck as a way to get rid of Leyline of the Void and co. as a combo deck does...
