Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Emergence Zone
Haven't played with either one. Would you prefer Winding Canyons over Emergence Zone ? Kind of a toss up for me. Losing a land can be... detrimental, but so can paying a tax of 2 mana. Zone does trigger The Gitrog Monster and can be brought back with land recursion effects, ala Crucible of Worlds or...

Re: Don’t play wraths. Or is the casual crowd going too far?
A guy wrathed 5 turns in a ROW in my playgroup yesterday. Most of us are used to it, and would expect nothing less from him. To be fair, the board probably needed to be wrathed that much. It was a 5 player game, so there were many more wraths than that. The game went on for nearly 3hrs in part due t...

Re: [MCD] - Anti Control Tech
Is there a creature with a Deflecting Swat effect? Basically looking for a red Willbender . Ranger-Captain of Eos is pretty strong. I guess it doubles as utility and a way to go off if you can, too. Being an activated ability makes it harder to interact with too. I forgot about this guy. Definitely ...

Shorikai, Genesis Engine - Budget Starter Deck
My 2nd budget starter deck I'm listing here. This is a fun one I'm excited to build since I've always liked vehicles but never thought they were good enough for commander. Now that we have more vehicle support this is a slightly more viable strategy than it used to be. As much as I like the thought ...

Pretty interesting deck, I would be curious to see it play out. What about Corpse Augur ? Been great in my jund creature feature deck.

Re: [MCD] - Anti Control Tech
But personally I try to avoid playing my nonblue decks in a 3 blue tryhards game. It's just not fun. probably this was my mistake. I have kind of a loose schedule rotation to the decks I play at our regular weekend gatherings so I'm not playing the same decks all the time. I wanted to play my jund ...

Re: [MCD] - Anti Control tech for Sans-blue
What sparked this topic was a game I played last night. I was playing Henzie. There was Meren, Elminster and Tasha, the Witch Queen as well as Xyris, the Writhing Storm . Tasha and Elminster were pretty heavy on counterspells and control effects. Everytime I was about to win, my board would either g...

[MCD] - Anti Control Tech
The blue control archetype is becoming somewhat more relavent in my playgroup. I guess it was inevitable with all the broken cards getting released. Wanted to compile a list ofanti-control cards for non-blue decks to consider. Please chime in so I can continue to compile the list, thanks! As far as ...

Re: Dralnu, Lich Lord: Son of a Lich ($1DH)
Wow, $22 for a deck, and i thought I was doing well. I see a lightly played copy of Force of Despair for $0.92 on TCGplayer. I've seen a lot of success with this in my two color black deck. It's an instant and you can cast it for free. Just an idea. What's your opinion on Ravenform ? Only thing I do...

Re: Baldur's Gate review - what do you think?
I'm honestly a bit surprised at the wildly differing opinions about the set. All the way from "I hate it and I wish it didn't exist" to "it reignited my spark for deckbuilding" I do agree that the white cards are probably too pushed, especially for competetive play, but they are ...

Sygg, River Cutthroat - Budget Starter Deck
I'm officially on a budget deckbuilding kick. We have a lot of new players coming to our LGS interested in commander I want to be able to lend or sell them decks to start out with. So this will be a series of decklists I'll be putting together so I can quickly add the deck my shopping cart on TCGpla...

Re: Looking for more $1DH ideas
You've definitely inspired me. It might be time to build some budget decks myself. I've been on an expensive bling kick lately, and I need to cool off and shift gears. Finding good budget cards does indeed present a much more interesting deckbuilding challenge. I tend to choose battlecruiser command...

Re: Aurelia, the Warleader - Tokens/Equipment
So we've really had a slew of solid cards for this deck recently, so I thought I would finally update my list. Please let me know if there are any other newer boros gems I'm missing and should try out. Krenko, Mob Boss ==> Battle Angels of Tyr - Krenk has performed pretty well for me in the past, bu...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion
Obviously polling this forum is not a fair representation of the Magic community overall, but do people even still like foils? Given their eventual warping, I assign them no value whatsoever. My buddy loves to buy collector packs, but I do not understand it because you get so many foils in them. No...

Re: Baldur's Gate review - what do you think?
Cut a Deal is bad. You're only up +1 card relative to the table after casting, which is Divination. Early it's worse since your opponents can use the cards first. Late it's better since you can probably cast them on the same turn. Except that late, people might be dead. Or you might just be doing a...

Baldur's Gate review - what do you think?
There is so much going on in this set, I'm still trying to digest it. This is a discussion. I go back to these threads often when I'm looking at cards to pick up or try out in decks. Despite the failure of the sealed product, I still think this set has an absolute truck ton of interesting and powerf...

Re: Singles or sealed?
Unfortunately, this is almost impossible, economically speaking - if the expected value of a pack (or box) is greater than the cost of the unopened item, then people will crack them in bulk... at which point supply and demand takes over, and the increased supply makes the price of singles fall. The...

Re: Buried under new sets, what are some good newer draw spells/engines in esper?
Hm, there are probably so many options it's overwhelming... kind of depends on what your deck is trying to do. I usually take a peek at EDHrec to see what people are running for a specific commander. That said, a lot of the old staples are still good. I run Insight to great effect in my playgroup. W...

Re: Singles or sealed?
So, it seems like everyone here is basically on the same page. I definitely get buying sealed to support your LGS. That's legit and I wish wizards would think the same way more often. My next question to you all is: What would wizards have to do to make buying sealed product appealing/worth the mone...

Re: Niv-Mizzet, Parun - "Controlled Burn" - No creatures!
Hehe, so I recently played a game where I was able to stick a draw doubler and begin wheeling everyone to death, but in response to Tolarian Winds which would have drawn me 32cards and killed a player, the player I had my sights on channeled Otawara, Soaring City targeting Niv. For the first time in...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Avacyn's Memorial
Can't dispute your first point technically, but within the context of this particular card, I will get into semantics. If we need only need wipes when we're behind, then why wouldn't we prefer a more thorough boardwipe, say Flood of Tears ? Or maybe Devastation Tide , which can be discounted? Or he...

Re: CommandFest Richmond! Who's coming?
Would be cool to meet everyone. I don't think this is one for me though, cost wise I can't justify that to my wife. She's also still paranoid about Covid and won't even let me go to local pre-release events. That said, someday I would definitely be down for something like this if enough nexus peopl...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Consuming Tide
Consuming Tide is pretty good, especially in a deck without a lot of permanents so you can capitalize on the draw effect. I slotted it into my Niv deck because I wanted a wipe that left Niv on the field. So a wipe that draws cards, bounces nearly everything, and leaves your best thing on the field ...

Re: With the way the commander economy is blown up, is the new optimal strategy in deck building to find the "2nd in cla
To address the OPs question, there are plenty of cards where 2nd best is probably good enough for casual play. Instead of Wheel of Fortune you could run Reforge the Soul Wheel of Misfortune Imposing Grandeur and probably my favorite Change of Fortune . Wheel of Fate could be ok if you can cast it wi...
