Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

IF it were stuck with summoning sickness always, the card would be just fine and nowhere near ban material. It's the Dash that breaks the card I'm afraid because it allows you to get by the downside of "does nothing when it comes into play". And what it does is so strong that if you can p...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

The Faithless Looting comparison is interesting. I will admit they both do something far beyond what their colors regularly do so they have that in common. Ragavan in my mind is encouraging interaction. It enters with zero benefit so dropping a removal into it is a true 1 for 1, but if you leave it ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I don't think either are bannable, tbh. So far, I think MH2 is far more balanced than MH1 was. Saga is something I think people are adjusting to, it's popularity was a flurry of hype. I think it's home in Amulet Titan is very obvious, it also fits in the others mentioned but Amulet is the big one to...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I'm sort of surprised you would pick out Bauble as the issue with Urza's Saga. I thought it was more toolbox + Karn-structs, not that one specific thing it ffetched was broken. I would have thought Lurrus would be the reason to ban Bauble, tbh; not that I think that's a thing. If anything, I think B...

Grist + Wheel of Sun and Moon

Let's pretend you somehow have only insects remaining in your deck. How? Who cares. It could just be that the last 4 cards in your deck are all 4 of your Scute Swarm copies. You have Wheel of Sun and Moon cast on you and you +1 with Grist, the Hunger Tide . What happens? Infinite mill or mill 4? Ass...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

MH2 prices are taking an adjustment on Coolstuffinc today. Dakkon fell from 26 to 16, Ragavan from 85 to 50, some of the cheaper rares are getting .50 shaved off, etc. Solitude dropped below Endurance.

I'm still waiting on bigger drops, but it's happening.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I don't know. There's real possibility that it's busted, but also it might just get banned for homogenizing decks. It just sounds like everything is trying to run it, maybe those who are successfully countering it are still just too far in the minority to be heard properly by the meta. I've seen it ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

MagicAids has a decent snapshot of how the deck plays out, it makes Grief look really busted. He proposes an evoke rules change but I think it's an over complicated solution compared to just banning Grief. No other evoke cards are clamoring to be flickered into a B&R so why change the whole mech...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

You always hear people argument "But not every product is for you haha idiot!", unless you play commander apparently, then wizards will do anything for you now. While I refuse to play commander in any capacity, I'm very okay with them printing tons of commander stuff in MH2 (or whatever n...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

MH2 so far looks very dull. More catered towards Commander. Ignoble Hierarch is cool and a couple of others maybe but not very exciting. Basically how MH1 went as well; "Commander Horizons", "boring set", "very underwhelming". Then we had the format turn upside down fo...

Re: What reprints would you put in Pioneer Horizons?

I pretty well agree with Robert. I feel as though non-rotating formats are destined to eventually overlap so much that they are virtually indistinguishable. I just assume they'll have another format that reaches back to Throne of Eldraine or possibly Guilds of Ravnica; my ONLY flimsy piece of eviden...

Re: Good black card draw spells in pioneer?

Typically if I'm playing Black I'm also playing Blue but, if that's not the case, the new Plumb the Forbidden looks like it could be pretty good if you can support it. Then again, I'm not sure it can beat out Village Rites for the same idea; actually the more I look at it the worse Plumb gets. Other...

Re: [STX] Strixhaven Pioneer Discussion

After hitting post I read the rest of the articles you posted (and watched the one video from Olive). I was relieved to see that no one else was pushing 7mv dragons with no actual places to easily slot into. There's some real room for debate on stuff but I often doubt just about anything above 4mv t...

Might actually get me to play again. We'll see where things shake out. Need local shops to start hosting again first and they're all reorganized to minimize table top area and maximize retail space. They seem to have no expectation that they may be hosting again soon.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

They have printed answers now and then that have somewhat kept pace with the rest of the format. Fatal Push was a good print, Force of Negation was a good print, Drown in the Loch, Dovin's Veto, Assassin's Trophy, Mystical Dispute, etc. I always feel like there are very good, versatile, flexible an...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Amulet Titan I think you're still talking about Ancient Greenwarden still? I don't think it's been said but it's worth noting that because it doubles land based EtB triggers, the karoo lands (like Simic Growth Chamber ) will bounce two lands instead of just one. I'm not sure if that interaction rul...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

The 3 original archetypes in Magic were Combo, Control, and Aggro. I think this is interesting, sort of feeds an idea I had awhile back. Many people like to use midrange as the indicator that a format is healthy, usually from what I've seen people want to start by saying that we need a good midrang...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Sure. I just don't think it's a good idea to get caught up in the word "fun" is all. The next time it comes up we may just get buried in who has fun with what when the real answer is event participation. I wouldn't take issue with a statement along the lines of "things are getting rea...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Player participation prompted them to quantify fun. People found the pioneer environment unfun, thus the participation dropped. They literally correlated fun to player participation I agree with this. I think it's important, however to realize that the two things are very different from each other....
