Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
It was definitely the worst book I was assigned, by far. There were plenty of others that I would not have read, given the choice, but this is the only one I had to read that I believe should not exist at all. Though I believe Rand's previous book, The Fountainhead, which was also assigned to some ...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
Wait, let's talk about swift reconfig. I like some aura based removal but go over again how it's a buff for us? I'm not following. In terms of removal I like that one can't just equip a SoWaP on it to make it fall off and crew 5 is nigh impossible to get it moving. It's like buying a Pontiac Aztec ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I'll also highly recommend Michael J. Sullivan's The Ryria Revelation. AMAZING dialogue and the humor is so on point. The writing is also excellent, as you can almost taste the world without getting swallowed up in the prose. Very efficient and excellent book. Seconding this recommendation. Great, ...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
Sorry for the wait, team, weekends are full on. 2 weeks out from baby number 2 and he could be with us any moment. Anyway, let's get Absent over the line, the card is pretty underrated. If my nomination is still on the table (fine if it's not given my delay), I'd like to nominate Swift Reconfigurati...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
Also another thing we haven't brought up regarding its use in this deck is that it can also be used to take out blockers post combat whose owners think they could just get free blocks with since we usually try to always attack anyway. I have multiple times in the past intentionally attacked into a ...

Yea path. Obvious add, no reason not to.
Let's nominate Lightning Bolt. It's pretty well versatile, kills most of what we'd need to kill.

Re: The product deluge vs Costs
It still irks me either way. And that's partly because it's not even remotely covert from WotC. They are absolutely force feeding us for profit, and whether you can stomach it or not it feels too much. I have a life and don't want to be constantly under deluge from new cards to parse and update. I'd...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
Yea Truths, Bones, and ascendancy. I think the latter is going to surprise us. It's worded such that we get a goblin for every creature we swing with, twice with our commander out. Add this in with any boosts, like Fervent Charge and we could really put the hurt on. The sacrifice effect is neither h...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
Feral Ghoul looks okish aldo the drain might be slow? I wouldn't personally look at it in any other context than loops. Mill is iffy in terms of an in game advantage weapon, there's lots of decks out there that want their yard stacked (look at us heh). If we can keep looping other creatures in an o...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I like Magic, but it's gotten too aesthetically complicated as they turn it into the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. I get this, but honestly for me it's more a case of Magic losing sight of it's own identity. Much like the kid starting high school and trying to find a clique to fit in, the ...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
Yea Winds, that card slaps. An excellent choice. I guess in terms of removal our best options aside from Winds, which I think is top tier here, are Deluge and Damn. I don't think either is stellar here, but they are both still quite good. I think I nominate Deluge; while we're still quite low to the...

EDIT: Just want to clarify that I am actually genuinely proud of the design of this one. You should be. I love the name of the second ability, it's perfect. Designer intent is "... enters the battlefield under your control ..." but in my haste I neglected to edit that part. I think Bandin...

Yeah I don't think it's terrible by any stretch. Flavor wise, it's amazing.
In terms of play lines you can beef your creatures a little, neutralize threats on the opposing boards, island lock your opponents or color fix yourself. It is slow, for sure, but there's something there.

You know, MaRo always says that people's opinion of UB changes when a property they really love comes along. I wonder if that'll be true for me. Hmm. Re: Most brain-dead commanders in existence
I actually wonder if something like Ruric Thar, the Unbowed would make a good novice deck. It does what it says on the tin, scorches the table for interacting. In that sense it keeps the game from getting too complex for a newbie to manage. Literally all you need to do is get your land drops, play y...

Re: Most brain-dead commanders in existence
Heh, I was gonna suggest Purph 2.0. Honestly an elfball commander like Ezuri, Renegade Leader probably fits the bill. Literally could not be easier to pilot. Vomit elves, turn them sideways, profit. In the same vein, Krenko, Mob Boss probably does the same thing from the other side of the arrangemen...

And yeah @toctheyounger after watching/reading some non-spoiler reviews for Hereditary, I think I've gotta sit on my decision for a while longer. It sounds like a genuinely brilliant piece of film-making, but it might be too much for me. Totally understand! I'd still recommend Midsommar. While it's...
