It's not Scooze, but if there's anything that keeps Commander in anything resembling balance, it's hate cards that do something else so you don't feel like you wasted a card.

Interesting to contrast with Night Soil. I don't think I would run this primarily as grave hate - at three mana to activate, it's much worse than something like Scavenging Ooze or Withered Wretch. However, it looks very nice as a token producer - three mana to populate is a pretty good rate, assuming you have tokens worth populating, and the base case of a three mana 3/3 is respectable.
