@onering You are simply wrong. If you look at edhrecs most played cards it is very clear that people choose not to play nothing but powerful cards. If what you are saying was true then edhrec would look a lot more like cedh.

The most played cards on edhrec are generally the most generically powerful. There are cards that are better in actual cEDH decks but not very good outside of those tuned decks, like Demonic Consultation. Homogenization has been a long standing, widely observed issue in commander, easily seen not just from anecdotes but from resources like edhrec as well as card values. Nobody in this entire thread has ever made the argument that nobody will choose to play lower powered decks. What we are saying, for the 30th time, is that all available evidence shows that most people will optimize. Build around commanders that want less powerful cards that they can get more value out of, like Feather, are one of the biggest incentives NOT to do that. Color Identity is another. Certain commanders incentivizing players to run more niche cards isn't going to be able to carry the load on its own.
If you think lowering the life total won't matter then I see zero reasons to keep it at 40.
If a change doesn't matter, then there are no reasons to make the change, so even with you misrepresenting my argument you still fail to rebut it.
