Exile zones in new edh deck

Brand new to the forum. Looking for some tips or tricks. A friend dragged me into edh after being away from the game for years. Bought a few precons to learn, started replacing cards in precons, and just built my first precon from scratch.

The commander is Rocco. I have synergy focused on exiling, but my question is this, is there any trick to all of the different exiles? Off of the top of my head, exile until end of turn, exile until end of next turn, rebound, foretell, can be played from exile for the rest of the game etc. I feel like I am going to need about six different exile piles. (I did buy myself some food tokens and some +1/+1 dice to help with those numbers).

I don't know if there is anything printable that would help, or if I should buy some dry erase cards or what.

Thanks!

A lot of this is personal preference. For example, in this thread @cheonice has markers for Blink and Flicker effects. I make tokens and markers using MSE 2 (Magic Set Editor) then print them on Avery Business Card stock (the result is a token that is roughly half the size of a magic card - see below). However, I also use glass beads instead of dice for counters (larger beads count as 5ea) which means I generally have lots of beads in various colors available, so I usually just drop a bead on something that is temporary-exiled as a reminder to bring it back when the effect ends. As long as nobody objects, I don't move it to an exile pile or anything - just slide it to the side where the status is obvious and slide it back (removing the "reminder") when the effect ends.

For example, here's the "token" I use with Flameshadow Conjuring - either as-is or on top of an extra copy of the creature to denote that the card is a Flameshadown token.

Yep, there are way to many exile effects... For some cases Wizards printed reminder cards like Adventure or Foretell. But making your own as @Treamayne suggested gives your deck a very personal note.

Have fun with Rocco, Street Chef! He looks like a lot of fun. Maybe you could post your list at the decklist forums? And welcome to MTGNexus!

I have the cards in some apps. Is there any easy way to generate a list that can be posted? I know they are in something called manabox.

Sure! You can post it here via the deck-tag.

With this

Code: Select all

[deck]
Commander
1 Ashling the Pilgrim
Spells
1 Lightning Bolt
Lands
1 Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle
97 Mountains
[/deck]
you get that
Decklist
Approximate Total Cost:

There are several other website who are specialised in providing decklist tools, e.g. Deckstats, Moxfield, AetherHub, Archidekt, MTGGoldfish.
