I understand the reasons behind changing the names of the tribal type and totem armor - generic as "tribe" and "totem" might be as anthropological terms, they still have certain connotations pertaining to specific ethnic groups, particularly indigenous ones whom society stereotypes as "primitive". Besides, there are people inside and out of academia who criticize the use of "totem" to mean any kind of animal/natural-world symbol for any culture because it's a derivation of an Anishinaabemowin word for the Ojibwe clans and isn't really accurate to use with any other culture.

I guess the rakshasa typing change is coming because they're no longer going to be drawn as tiger demons in the artwork (in fact, I would expect all Tarkiri demons to look humanoid like Soulflayer from hereon out). The whole "rakshasas have anthro-animal features" deal comes from D&D in the first place. Rakshasas in Hindu mythology are shapeshifters, but not, you know, furries.

Why the Naga change, though? I can see that happening for mechanical cohesion reasons, sure, but I don't know what the cultural reason behind it is.

This is like the banning and removal from Gatherer a couple of years ago of a bunch of REALLY ill-conceived old cards where it's super obvious why most of them could cause offense, but also Stone-Throwing Devils was part of it for some reason. Still not sure of the logic of that.
