Considering Fountain of Renewal your wellspring is quite weak. I don't know if a straight cantrip is warranted but it needs something beyond one life a turn.

I mean, it's not a lot, but also, I mean... I feel like it's easier to get extra mileage out of it than Fountain of Renewal. It's easier to untap a land than it is to get extra upkeep triggers (especially in green...). This also lets you untap another land with Estrid's +2 -- you'd far sooner want Wild Growth, yes, but if you already have that in your deck, why not.

Anyway, this sounds, er, about right for the cost. (Good that it doesn't target so that part can't be negated. Although, considering you dump a card, it *shouldn't* target in order to give you the full range of options.)

Feels quite restrictive, though, for this not to be able to produce any mana or do anything without significant extra mana available to invest. A land that is just dead for the first few turns is odd and sounds kinda frustrating to play with.

Considering Fountain of Renewal your wellspring is quite weak. I don't know if a straight cantrip is warranted but it needs something beyond one life a turn.

It looks like a signpost card to me. It's the kind of card that can really shine in Limited alongside enchantments matter or life gain triggers. It also negates or mitigates life loss from early drops. Even +4 life can quench an aggro/burn deck. And in multiples, it could get legit crazy. It might even draw out enchantment removal, allowing you to safely drop a stronger enchantment. Perfect for a core set, too. Great design!
