To
bravelion83 slimytrout void_nothing,
I am feeling very much under the weather today and cannot polish and finish my card design before the current deadline. I will be able to do so with a one-day extension. If that is unable to be granted, then I completely understand.

Please feel free to take an extra day -- no problem at all!
Everything's fine here, Bly. The guidelines allow the host to grant a 24-hour extension (not more), and that's exactly what happened here. So don't worry, think about your submission, and take your time, just not too much!
And most of all, get well soon!
Gatherer links don't notoriously work properly here because of the square brackets they contain. I would honestly take a look at the whole current Standard format, especially the Core Set. I feel like only looking at one set might not be enough, but it's still good advice.
Gatherer resources:
• The link in The_Hittite's post ("recent commons") points to a Gatherer page containing all the commons from the most recent set at the time of writing (Throne of Eldraine).
• All the commons in Standard (copy and paste the URL removing the red X):
https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&rarity=+[XC]&format=+[%22Standard%22]
• All the commons in the most recent core set (M20) (copy and paste the URL removing the red X):
https://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&rarity=+[XC]&set=+[%22Core%20Set%202020%22]
I would also link to the
article and
wiki page about New World Order. I would like to emphasize from the wiki page:
One of the rules of New World Order is that common cards don't affect more than one other card while on the battlefield for simplicity of tracking the board.
And also, the challenges about designing commons from the GDS's:
From GDS1 - Challenge 6, "Game, set, match", design all the commons of a single color from a small set plus the prerelease promo:
submissions,
judging.
In the GDS2 it was the very first challenge, given to contestants in
the very first article of the main show and judged in
the following one ("Common ground").
In the GDS3, the closest is
the last challenge, "Pack and play", where the contestants had to design the content of a whole booster pack (about two thirds of which are commons).
A lot of material, but as you said, it's all to the benefit of both players and jugdes.

The June MCC is ongoing. Most recent thread: judge signup thread. Round 1 will go up later tonight.
For my projects (Jeff Lionheart, "One pierced heart, two mindful horns", republished articles from my series "The Lion's Lair", and custom sets), see
Leo's content index (Last updated on April 25th 2024 - Added TLL #5).
After I'm done republishing my articles I want to reprise the series focusing it more on editing, wording, and templating.
