Re: Most brain-dead commanders in existence
Omnath Locus of Rage. You ramp, you play Omnath, you ramp some more and it poops out tokens, then he doesn't even have to attack because they deal damage when someone wipes the board. Throw in some sac outlets so he can close the game if nobody wipes and he somehow can't just attack. I've literally ...

I hate UB so much. It's taking away from the actual magic sets and destroying the flavor of the game.

Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Doctor Who + LTR Scene boxes + Jurassic Whatever
Damn, I forgot what Yorion's clause was. Oh well, 4 is still ridiculous. It kinda depends on your reference frame. I think some pieces of cEDH mentality have crept into normal commander where they aren't particularly applicable. In a format loaded with 1:1 answers like cEDH, having extra cards is a...

Re: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly - Doctor Who + LTR Scene boxes + Jurassic Whatever
I kind of like the idea of the 1st doctor and Amy as commanders with Rory and the TARDIS in the deck and Yorion as a companion to get a whopping five cards "in" the command zone (because your commanders grab Rory and the Tardis they may as well be there). I mean, the TARDIS seems decent an...

Re: How familiar are you with Doctor Who?
I really don't like Universes Beyond in general. These should all just be sold as reskins of existing cards, or better yet introduced as gold bordered cards for casual play that can be used if everyone agrees, like Unsets. It makes the game more generic and cheap feeling. The only exception for me h...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Havengul Lich
It's also backup, more expensive necrotic ooze for a turn. You get a good tap effect and an untap effect on him and go nuts. For instance, if you use him to grab Fain and Devoted Druid from the yard, he can produce infinite treasures by using the druid to put a -1/-1 counter on him then Fain to remo...

Re: Anybody got any ideas as to how to make Yidaro work in EDH?
Gorex is neat. Don't think of it as discarding cards just so you can get them back again, think of it as discarding cards for value and then having that also happen to accelerate out your commander that happens to then get your cards back. It's not super strong or anything, but it's a self discard d...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Ertai's Meddling
Great in Mizzix. Legit costs U to exile a spell for like 7 turns pretty easily. Once you get over a certain numbers of counters, it's basically exiling a spell for the rest of the game. Absolutely needs cost reducers but becomes one of the best counters with them, and exiling makes it worth it vs ot...

Re: Krosan Grip in 2023
It's behind only Force, and tied with rec sage and nature's claim. Rec sage I actually class differently since it's sorcery speed and on a critter, so it really serves a different role. The other three you hold onto until they are needed and fire them off to take care of something that absolutely mu...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Underworld Breach
Is absolutely worth it if you can use it to recast two things. It's nearly a red Yawg's Will, which obviously means it has absurd combo potential, but it's plenty good when used fairly. I mean, just using it to recast a Jeska's Will is pretty sweet.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Defiler of Vigor
The Defilers are a mixed bag. This one, I think, is the strongest, because it's effects are the most synergistic in green. Green, along with white, is more likely to be permanent heavy, but Green can ramp out a 5 drop faster and then still be able to take advantage of the cost reduction by using it ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Magus of the Unseen
It's very telegraphed, but can be a bomb in the right meta. It actually sucks against most mana rocks, since you're usually going to be mana neutral from it or lose mana, but stealing a Gilded Lotus for a turn at least nets a mana. The real spice is stealing passive artifacts with huge effects (like...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Immortal Servitude
I'm pretty sure it sucks, and we'll eventually get a 5 mana reanimate everything CMC 3 or less in your yard that just outclassed this. I guess you can drop it for 8 to grab a bunch of CMC 5 creatures, but that's a lot of setup an narrow card choices when you can do the same for all you're creatures ...

Nobody should be buying these precons. Absurdly overpriced. Magic has been profitable, trying to squeeze maximum money out of players in the now will only hurt the product in the future.

Play it in Gishath. It's nice getting your enrage triggers to trigger on etb, and randomly hoses opponents at the same time.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Seismic Spike
It's, essentially, a 2 mana stone rain. People aren't running sinkhole. If you are trying to multi spell, is this the right effect for you? birthday.... Is there nothing better to spend (essentially) 2 mana on? I see the viability of this being highly reliant on somehow getting more mana out of it, ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Cloudstone Curio
There are absolutely fair uses for this. It can create plenty of value and hit cast triggers that blink misses without going infinite. Just bouncing and replaying a couple cheap etb dudes every turn can be getting your mana's worth. There's plenty of strong but fair, and even fun, things to do with ...
