Re: What Makes Bad Games?

When powerlevels were not properly represented it can be very frustrating.
Also, I dislike games that play out the same way time and time again - so tutoring is frustrating to me.

Re: Soldier of Fortune

Thank you for your answers. The idea was to make a deck focused on soldier of fortune and cards that trigger from shuffling, and to randomly hose mystical tutor et al. However, I wanted to have an idea of what is shortcutted, what is abusive, and what is tolerable. I had not thought about the potent...

Re: Soldier of Fortune

Additionally... if my opponent casts cultivate and I respond by making them shuffle... presumably they go Shuffle, search, shuffle. My shuffle does nothing but they are obligated to do it, right?

Re: Soldier of Fortune

In general, shuffling a library more than once has no bigger effect than shuffling it only once, since in both cases, the library's cards are "randomize[d] ... so that no player knows their order" (C.R. 701.19a). Assuming nothing in the game cares about how often it's shuffled, you have t...

Soldier of Fortune

Soldier of fortune is interesting to me because a lot of the time it does nothing. If a player has scried or put cards on the bottom of their library or can see the top of their library... sure, it does something. But turn 1 of the game if nobody has mulliganed, if I somehow get a hasty Soldier of ...

Re: Anti-Spike police / counterspell density

What I like about Braids is that she helps the timmy decks more than the spike decks. I would also look at things like Back to Basics , since spikey decks tend to play fewer basics. I feel like Humble Defector would be great, unfortunately I can't think of blue cards like this... My Zedruu deck trie...

Re: The moving goalposts of staying within budget

The only time I experience this is when I notice expensive cards in jank decks, and I just think to myself: "Maybe I should just sell that card and replace it with more jank".

Re: Chulane, Teller of Tales [SPOILER]

Dumb with Aluren, but so are many generals. I think it is really cool. The stats are terrible.

There are a lot of ways to break it and draw your deck but I suspect many people will be playing this just for value.

Re: Blood/Bond combo

Exquisite blood works with a lot more cards. For example, Pestilence really shines with it. It is a lot easier to trigger.
Sanguine bond requires you to target as well, so even if you do trigger it you do not hit all opponents.

The presence of either card signifies combo and are 'must kill' cards.

Re: PW care Package (Chandra Tribal help)

Pyromancer's Goggles are Jaya's goggles, not Chandra's. Chandra acquired the Goggles at some point, hoping to meet Jaya, and maybe return them to her. Jokulhaups is great with planeswalkers. Also Smoke These two cards, running them in Commander is just being a dick. "You can't play the game&qu...

The Point I wanted to make was that I do not believe they will bring back Eminence or Planeswalkers or Partner at this time (though personally I want more partners).

Re: Mana Crypt for every precon?

If they were in all the preconstructed decks, it would be conceivable. At first, it would be hard to get the decks, but then after the 5th printing I am sure the price would drop down enough that everyone could get the decks they wanted. The price point should not 'make it more acceptable'. If anyth...

Re: Commander 2019 Speculation

I am expecting value in lands and some format staples, but mostly lands. Like - does anyone needs Vivid lands anymore? Even if they are just painlands or checklands or battle lands... it will have to be better than previous versions. I think it is time we see a returning multiplayer mechanic, like M...

Re: Top-end replacement for Iona

Hulk did not need a 'hulk pile' in my deck. The cards were already there. Very easy to combo out. Get Karmic Guide and whatever, return hulk to play, sac again to get saffi erksdotter and probably zulaport cuthroat and whatever, saffi Karmic Guide to get hulk again get reveillark. Raza's issue is t...

magister of worth ? I used to play it but the vote was never in my favour Then you are playing it wrong bro. The vote is always in your favor. They will never vote grace, because your graveyard is full of big monsters, "combos" like Shalai+Avacyn, mean etb effects and even meaner sacrific...

Re: Top-end replacement for Iona

Razaketh, the Foulblooded is the top dog as far as reanimation targets go, if you've built your deck correctly he should be able to win on the spot when he hits the board assuming you have a minimal amount of resources available to you. After all, Raza was powerful enough to create a new cEDH arche...

Re: Top-end replacement for Iona

Avacyn is not really interesting because I don't mind being wrathed - I can just recast everything from the graveyard. I have never published a list online but I will on this site eventually. For now, I realized I still had not found a spot for Phyrexian Altar so I did a one for one swap. This is ju...

Top-end replacement for Iona

So, with the latest update, I need to take PE out of two decks and take Iona out of one deck. I am not so concerned about PE because I have cards like Turnabout I had wanted to slot in. But for Karador, Ghost Chieftain , I don't know what to put in for Iona. I had many ways to cheat her out , and no...

Re: Changing Commanders

It happened once, to improve a deck - Ruric Thar became Mina and Denn.
I once built a Damia deck but hated it and took it apart - I imagine some day it will become Muldrotha.

But I don't really change commanders often, because I usually build specifically around the commander.

Re: Do you ever use green signets?

So, I have 6/17 decks that play green.... Only one is 2-colour, and I play Gruul Signet because the deck is focused on activating Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx several times per turn and going off... so being able to draw into signet and use it to filter green into red is decent. It is one of the worst ram...
