Re: Non-Basic Land Soft Hosers
As I've said before, what I would really like to start seeing is cards that are not symmetrical. The problem with cards like Blood Moon and Back to Basics is that they hurt the casual deck/mana screwed player far more than the rampant ramper. (tm) Whereas something like: An enchant player curse vers...

Re: Was WotC's embrace of Commander a good thing?
The problem is and always has been finding a group that builds like you do, or a store that supports you instead of treating you like a part of their next rent check or you're outta there, and players that don't look at you as an invader to their playgroup or just someone to be pwnd because they do...

Re: Budget deck price and philosophy?
what philosophies do you use when building? My version of "budget" is build with what I already own. I don't track prices enough to care about building by total value - and I don't track rarity changes enough to care about building by rarity. My deck "price" is $0 if I didn't bu...

I think I'm happy to say that I never posted on Sally. IIRC I lurked 2-3 times to read a specific thread, and found the atmosphere. . . offputting.

Re: What basic lands do you run?
What basic land art to chose? Barring deck considerations (1) , I prefer to try using basics from whatever plane the Commander is from. I actually prefer to have no more than 2 lands share art, so a plane with more sets (Innistrad, Ravnica) will have every basic a different art, while things like I...

Re: The Great Gadgets of EDH - MTG Arts, Crafts, and Accessories
They look really neat. I like the idea of half-sized tokens, it kinda fits the theme of them being something other than regular creatures. Thanks for sharing! I might adapt that for my Battle Box. I had the best results with Avery 8471 . There are templates that help with alignment (printers vary t...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Uyo, Silent Prophet
Saturday, December 16th, 2023; Uyo, Silent Prophet and similarish enough "reprint", Echo Mage . Uyo, Silent Prophet echo mage I'm stumped: how are these functional reprints? Like, they both copy spells I guess, but one's legendary, one's not. One needs to be tapped, the other one doesn't....

Re: SCD: Demonic Tutor
My strongest memory of Demonic Tutor was a guy at college in 94ish who used it to stack his deck. He would "consider" 3-4 cards, choose one and "shuffle" in a way to make sure the other 2-3 stayed on top because he knew 9/10 people wouldn't cut a mid-game shuffle. I've avoided it...

Re: Should Multiplayer EDH Have Less Than 40 Starting Life?
What if a player uses that to his advantage to discard a card they wanted to? Can they cast it for its madness cost? That would be up to the group/store. It was a tongue-in-cheek improv list made as an example of holding non-game actions that impact the game accountible with in-game reprecussions. ...

Re: Should Multiplayer EDH Have Less Than 40 Starting Life?
I just want players to respect the time investment we're making and get a move on. This is when environment house rules come into play. Such as: If you "check" your device during your turn; discard card If you do it during combat, discard your hand "Check" is non-game related ta...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Karona, False God
I've had a number of Karona, False God decks over the years. Sometimes for tribes without enough creatures "in color" for the available legend (or no available legend), but my current version is Avatar Tribal using Phasing so I don't have to share Karona. Vanishing , Teferi's Veil , etc. R...

One of my all-time favorite cards. Perpetual Banding for all of my friends (not to mention instant-speed First Strike and other combat tricks).

Re: SCD: Mercadia’s Downfall
I use it in my Jeskai Monk Prowess deck, but not as a finisher (usually) since that prefers Haze of Rage for multi-prowess with buyback. I find it more useful to swing/trample through early damage to the Simic Ramp deck and enable some combat damage triggers. It's not uncommon, in my expereince, to ...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Winding Canyons
Winding Canyons is totally a Nostalgia Card. I remember being blown away in Mirage Block when they introduced "cast as an instant" and most of the chaff with the ability was . . . not stellar (*cough* Parapet *cough*). Then Weatherlight brought us this, and the world opened to all kinds o...

Re: Henry Wu's Favorite Exploit?
Well, there only seem to be three other humans that have Exploit (Minister of Pain, Qarsi Sadist, Silumgar Sorcerer). So, the General would have to be on the battlefield to do much of anything, unless there are new ways to give Exploit (other than Henry).
