Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

The Faithless Looting comparison is interesting. I will admit they both do something far beyond what their colors regularly do so they have that in common. Ragavan in my mind is encouraging interaction. It enters with zero benefit so dropping a removal into it is a true 1 for 1, but if you leave it...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I don't think either are bannable, tbh. So far, I think MH2 is far more balanced than MH1 was. Saga is something I think people are adjusting to, it's popularity was a flurry of hype. I think it's home in Amulet Titan is very obvious, it also fits in the others mentioned but Amulet is the big one t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I'm sort of surprised you would pick out Bauble as the issue with Urza's Saga. I thought it was more toolbox + Karn-structs, not that one specific thing it ffetched was broken. I would have thought Lurrus would be the reason to ban Bauble, tbh; not that I think that's a thing. If anything, I think ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Until the card is banned, EVERY Modern deck using red has it's win chances significantly improved by running 4x Ragavan. Literally every deck with red mana, for all the reasons you have already mentioned. There is currently no other card in any other color that can claim such a title, not even a cl...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

are people slotting Ragavan as a 4-of in their decks? it makes me think.. is it so effective, people still use 4 of it even if it's legendary? It's $100 each online and $70 each in paper. If be playing 4 if I could justify the costs. It's THAT good. It is an absolute must-answer threat that will ta...

The look on that dude's face makes me want to never click on it. So tired of Youtube stuff for reals. Wow. Is this the kind of forum we have here? Arbitrarily dismissing someone based on you dont like the look of their face? It couldnt possibly be that he has an opinion that might be different than...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Check this video out. It's a pretty good watch and meta summary. I was intrigued on how little Tron is being played right now. The reviewer (correctly) notes that there really is no decks out there preying on Tron so its absence is a bit mysterious (and probably just temporary). Also of note UW str...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

@Tzoulis You are oddly hostile, and I think I know why. Ragavan is a card you are into and any talk of banning it is a turd in your punch bowl. I was merely trying to share a neat MTG related video, in which the reviewer made some similar points to things I was saying. Wow, what a monster I must be...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

No? But those cards dont do as much as Ragavan. There is no question Ragavan is way beyond the power level of cards on the banlist. The only question is...how long? How long until it too becomes banned? This is the main issue because you can't keep DRS on the list and keep a straight face when conf...

Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

What do we think about Ragavan price going forward? Will it just keep rising until banned? Should we ban Bolt, Swiftspear, Stoneforge and Thoughtseize as well? No? Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I don't think Monkey is bannable, but it's probably one of the (if not THE) best one-drop ever printed. Because it's a completely self-contained snowball engine that requires zero deckbuilding costs and zero support to be good. Effectively making mana, drawing cards, and denying opponent resources,...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I saw some chatter recently about the prevalence of Mishra's Bauble. And that seems to be reflected in its recent big price spikes again. Paper copies are now well above $20 and MTGO are pushing past $50tx for the first time since companions were nerfed. Not saying anything needs to be banned or wh...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I won't like it, because I want to be casting Counterspell , Archmage's Charm , and Cryptic Command . Bonus points for also including Snapcaster Mage and Lightning Bolt .  Winning is irrelevant if I don't enjoy playing the deck. I hear you but do you ever stop and correlate...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I see there's no convincing you to at least TRY it before making decisions so I will just have to agree to disagree on the value of what you give up vs what you are gaining. I value the things I am gaining far more than the fractional sacrifices I lose. You value the things you would lose more. Fai...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

12 mana to make four 5/5s over 5 turns (when they start as 1/1s, 2/2s, etc) is pitiful with the current power level of cards in Modern. If you're not recurring it, abusing it, or have bunches of incidental artifacts, this has no place in your deck. But I feel like I'm repeating myself, so I'll leav...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Yeah, I'm not sure I would break the bank on Ragavan, that card has ban list written all over it. Then again, it will take WOTC 3 months at least to even bother to look at it so maybe you can get you value out of the high price tag if you buy em now and go infinite in leagues.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

The thing about Urza's Saga is that it's only really being seen in decks that play enough artifacts to fetch, play enough artifacts to make meaningful Constructs, or have silver bullets tutor targets. As a blue control player, I have exactly zero interest in this card. And it's because I don't want...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Where is this "all over the place" coming from? Because as the set is being more and more iterated Ragavan seems to be slotting in WAY more decks than Saga is. And Hexparasite is a cool idea, but it's maybe as a 1- or 2- of, the Urza lists that played it had only that as a relevant target...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

So if something breaks Urza's Saga , it might be Power Conduit 's ability to repeatedly (and for free) remove counters. I didn't realize Sagas "officially" used counters that can be interacted with in the rules, because honestly, I haven't played much of any format where anyone played Sag...
