Re: Topical Discussion of the Official Multiplayer Ban List

So my question to you all is : do you think there are any changes that should be made to the format now, rather than years down the road. While there are a couple of changes I'd enjoy (e.g. combined commander damage), there's nothing that stands out as particularly pressing to me. A general note I'...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Moving on Wednesday! No more living alone during lockdown, will have great flatmates with an adorable dog, be in the middle of the city for when everything opens up again and will save a tonne of money. That last part has reinvigorated my interest in EDH somewhat; not enough to build new dec...

Re: A Matter of Time Consumption

If you want to take long turns, by all means go for it, but do something engaging; make sure the time is being put to good use. I'd much rather see a 10 minute turn involving Etali plus Boots (hitting 5 spells) > Oblivion Sower (opponent's) > Mnemonic Deluge on Mind's Desire for 30 copies > Mnemonic...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Spirit of Resistance popped up on my interest and I'm wondering if it's really worth the investment deck wise. I'd run it in a deck with a 5C commander, so then you only need one card to activate it, à la Coalition Victory . I run it in my Sliver Queen deck both for this reason and because the deck...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Yeah we had a case of delta being spread in an isolation facility; 2 parallel doors in a hotel were open for 5 seconds at the same time and that was enough to spread it. Insane. Edit - there's now 4 more cases, one of whom is a fully vaccinated nurse. Hope you're looking after yourself over the dit...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Hope your dad recovers well Dirk! Re the NZ lockdown, it sucks, but with delta it's a question of when, not if, you go into hard lockdown; at least if your country has low vaccination rates. We're in week 8 here in Sydney and today will break 500 cases/day for the first time since the whole pandemic...

the wish as a modal spell Seeing the discussion over time on the appropriate number of cards to include in a wishboard, this is actually the thought I had when trying to come up with a number for myself: If we think of a wish as a regular modal spell, what relationship would we expect between the n...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Not to say "that's not magic" but it feels very "that's not magic". That's because it's Hearthstone. The similar card is Emperor Thaurissan , which was incredible in so many decks for the tempo gain it provided; especially heavy control decks, due to having so many cards in hand...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Efreet Flamepainter

Re Dowsing Dagger // Lost Vale vs Sword of the Animist , I want to echo that Rampant Growth ing repeatedly is very slow compared to a Gilded Lotus|MRD . The turn you connect with the Dagger, and each turn after, you get access to 3 additional mana. For the Sword, you get no additional mana (land ETB...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

Lessons and Learn won't work in the format unless they change the rules. I'm assuming that's what this is leading to and I'm not sure how to feel about it. Learn also gives you the option to rummage, if you don't find a Lesson. So I imagine the rules will be unchanged; the 'wish' part of it doesn't...

Re: Of Prices and "Playtest Cards"

I've always been for proxies, even though I've never used them myself, and given the explosion in card prices during covid it's highly likely that any future decks I build will essentially be 100% proxied. I like playing the game and proxies let anyone do that in anyway they want, so go for it. The ...

Re: What are you picking up from Kaldheim?

Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim : Burning-Rune Demon to take advantage of the decent amount of recursion available to the deck, Glorious Protector as protection and to re-use the decent number of ETBs the deck has and Search for Glory because Bolas's Citadel is stupidly good. Possibly Doomskar as well, again...

Re: When (not) to run Back to Basics | Blood Moon | Hall of Gemstone?

Like others have said, these are fine in pretty much all situations, the exceptions being against jank or meme decks. For example, it's 100% fair game against my Shrines deck, but if these came out while I was playing "You lose the game" tribal then I'd be a bit dumbfounded. (Of course ass...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Derevi, Empyrial Tactician

Yeah, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician is crazy good. Ignoring her combo and stax potential, she still generates obscene amounts of value. The sole reason I bought a Bloom Tender when it was reprinted is because being able to play Derevi and still have 6 (or more) mana available on Turn 3 is ridiculous. I...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Blackblade Reforged

It's a pity I missed Kefnet the Mindful a few days ago, since I run a voltron deck with him at the helm, but it does run Blackblade Reforged . Like others have said, it's a powerful beat-stick, but the lack of utility does make it run lower down the totem pole. I run a 12-piece (well, 13, but Dowsin...

Re: What are your favorite cards from 2020?

The six Sanctums from Core 21. While there were plenty of notable additions to the format this year, nothing compares to the absolute joy and excitement I felt when the Sanctums were spoiled. I suspect it will be a long time before the next card(s) whose preview alone makes me feel ecstatic.

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Craterhoof Behemoth

Playing The Hoof makes me want to yell "Hoof da!" and take a drink, because of the "St. Olaf Woman of the Year" episode of The Golden Girls, but I never seem to draw it outside my LGS. It's also pretty disgusting to drop a clone off a Kodama of the East Tree trigger and get a sec...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - The ABU Duals

Philosophically, fetches already represent a superfluous level of investment to me, especially in commander, so my immediate reaction to the duals is that they are just so unnecessary; their cost is simply ludicrous. For gameplay, go nuts if you happen to have them, but you're not getting much more ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Oh Steam sale's up. What's worth getting? I'm considering Hades and AC: Odyssey; maybe the earlier Witcher games as well, since I recently finished Wild Hunt and I haven't been drawn into a game like that for a long time. Also had a great night of commander yesterday. The highlight was winning a gam...

Re: Did Partners change how you view/play the format? If so, how?

I stated playing Commander after C16 was released, but before Battlebond, and the C16 and "Partner with" legends have been all but non-existent. There was an Akiri, Line-Slinger // Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder artifact voltron deck, which was brought out only once by its owner, and a Brallin...

Re: Any spicy Commander Legends brews incoming?

s + Vial Smasher the Fierce seems amongst the best combos. Typical 'ramp into big stuff, win with value spells and Vial' deck. Add clones for a cool take on the Vial Smasher archetype that scales wildly when you clone him for extra damage. I'm currently working on this, albeit very slowly. I wanted...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Lich's Mastery

I run it in my "You lose the game" tribal deck, along with various Donate effects. Of the various liches available for this purpose, this is the best as it has the fewest downsides and is harder to be accidentally triggered via the self-removal effect that all liches have. Although it is m...

I love Kodama of the East Tree and Sakashima of a Thousand Faces for their Kamigawan flavour and unique abilities, and being able to pair them in the command zone is filthy . Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I came up with this name when I used to play WoW, for my main, a Blood Elf Priest. (What else right?). I did a fair bit of theorycrafting with that name, so I adopted it as my go-to whenever I needed a name for forums, D&D, etc. Also I think it's a pretty great Elf name that rolls off the tongue...

Re: Unreleased and New Card Discussion

I love the look of Liesa, Shroud of Dusk for promoting classic Orzhov attrition in a moderate way, while also being a hefty beatstick. Paying life in place of commander tax also seems pretty sweet, since I imagine she'll attract a fair bit of spot removal. Mnemonic Deluge is the latest addition to t...
