Re: [Official] Modern Prices Discussion

noticed that Bitterblossom is at the 50 dollar range now. Did something cause this card to spike? I'm assuming it's because it hasn't been reprinted in a set in a while. Don't even imagine trying to look at the price of Auriok Champion according to my friends. I bought 2 IMA ones for $6 over a year...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

seeing Modern Horizons 2 makes me a bit sad that there isn't even a Pioneer Horizons 1... I really liked Pioneer when it was first introduced, but I think Wizards want to kill it in favour of Historic. My guess is they're going to make that the in-between format when things are really open again. I...

than you should not cut it. If it can bring back that many important creatures. is the deck 4 colors now? From what I remembered it was rug that last time you used it. It's always been at least 4 colors. It's a similar mana base to humans. Here is a current list for the most recent tournament, whic...

congrats on doing well. Surprised to see Vesperlark in the deck. :)
Yeah, it gets cut a lot. But if I feel like there's gonna be a lot of removal, Evoking it can bring back Risen Reef, Thunderkin Awakener, Phantasmal Image, and probably a few more, lol.

Re: [DECK]Elementals[/DECK]

I think 20 players for 4 rounds at Playlive again. Round 1 vs. RUG Shift. He ramps up, but I get a couple of Fulminator Mages to slow him down while Voice beats him. He made a mistake IMO of doing Growth Spiral at EoT because it gave me an elemental token from Voice. I am able to get him before he h...

Re: [DECK]Elementals[/DECK]

Played in a ThNM with 22 players for 4 rounds. Round 1 vs. Infect. So before the tournament, his friend seemed to allude to the fact that his friend would play Infect and my opponent would play Storm. The opponent didn't look like an Infect player, but did look like a Storm player. This guy won last...

Re: [DECK]Elementals[/DECK]

Back in it! I play an FNM, my first FNM, at Playlive nation in Fullerton, CA. 4 rounds. Round 1 vs. UR Prowess. He says it's his first Modern tournament, but beats his friend around 50% of the time. I ask him what he normally plays and he said Commander. The first game is close. He has me near the r...

So I played Trollementals at my first FNM in over a year. This was at playlive in Fullerton, CA. The turnout was okay, around 16 people.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

feels like it's a good time to get the rw horizon land, as it could go up if Lumimancer prowess becomes a thing. I think (hope) it is a good time for horizon lands in general. I picked up tons of them at $4-7, hoping to flip some day. Now I just wish I had that money to put more money into Dogecoin...

Personally I'm hoping for a Council's Judgment reprint in MH2 now that Counterspell is "leaked". There was a list of cards that are supposedly in MH2 and Council's Judgment is in it. That would be cool. I remember back when the people at mtgsalvation were speculating on what may be in MH....

Maybe not so much related to Modern, but Magic in general, but am I the only one who doesn't like the fact that FNM and tournaments in that style has actual money prizes? I just thought about it from the comment about breaking even on entry fees. I think that's at least one reason why Magic has so ...

I know people are worried about Modern Horizons 2 breaking open Modern. Here's the way I look at it. Modern Horizons is supposed to "break" something and have many tidbits that help so many different strategies, just like its predecessor did. How disappointing would it be if every Standard...

Wait, Skyclave, the 1WW, exile a perm, foil, for around $8? I saw a buyer on FB offering $12.50 each, so I assumed they were currently at $15 or more. I may try to get some myself. FYI, the rest of the mail came in. Skyclave 1: $8.88, Skyclave 2: $8.99, Colonnade (x2 same seller) : $8.95/ea. Total:...

By the looks of this meta would you say that a deck like faeries can get away with collective brutality main with thoughtseize sb? It serves purpose trading value for dead bitterblossom and fuels cling to dust to create a life buffer for the strategy, but it's often too minor impact for maindeck. S...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Unrelated to the new cards, the whole "Celestial Colonnade is back on the menu" train has me hyped. I sold my copies years ago for like $30ish a piece, and today the alt art foil FNM promos are like $8. Picked up two, along with (surprisingly cheap) Skyclaves, at around the same price for...

I really really really don't like playing against Jitte, but I'd say unban it and see how it fairs. I'm all for ubanning stuff with the a disclaimer that "it could get banned again if it gets out of hands too fast, so don't waste money on it until it's potentially settled in the meta" kin...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

The difference here is that Bridge is a fundamentally unfair card that is only playable if it's doing degenerate things. There's no upside to unbanning it, it's either unplayable or it's enabling some broken graveyard engine. You're never just playing Bridge in a fair deck for value. DRS, on the ot...

I would love nothing more than to see DRS as a nice Uro replacement for "value creature and self-contained engine," but I think that like Uro, it just does too much for too little. I would happily try to jam it in something like Sultai Control, or even pushing the remaining Omnath piles i...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Listen I would like a straight answer to this question: Why SHOULDN'T wotc expect to have a lot of bans going forward? I mean they have to be able to design new cards. Powerful cards. I find it completely reasonable that these new cards will break eternal card pools. So instead of going all chicken...

@foodchain: In 2021 our options for entertainment are...vast. MTG offers a niche strategic fantasy chess poker experience that is unique. Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

This ban is a terrible ban, in my opinion and just makes all combo players turn away from the format. Hate to break it to you, but this is good news for a large percentage of people who want to have a fun / fair game of MTG. WHen combo decks "work" you are trying to win a game of solitair...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Simian Spirit Guide was banned to hit the Tibalt's Trickery deck. But wait, Tibalt's Trickery was already banned at the same time. Yes, SSG is an extra mana for exactly 1 turn. What's the cost? You use a card for that temporary mana. If someone casts Chalice of the Void on turn 1 with the assistance...

I'm mad about simian spirit guide. Ad nauseam and mono red prison decks were fine in the format. Uro and mystic sanctuary are bans i like. I'm indifferent to field of the dead. I'm in a similar boat. I like the Uro, Mystic Sanctuary, and Field of the Dead bans. But I am somewhat mad about Simian Sp...
