Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

This is pretty much everybody's pain right now who is trying to build a PC. There are waitlists and raffles and whatnot, depending on the site and availability. Yep. I'm on the waitlists, but I'm not in need of an upgrade enough to put any more effort into it and the supply issues will eventually b...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

It's been a headache trying to pick up a new graphics card. I'm interested in picking up an RTX 3080 and have been semi-regularly checking stores for at least a couple months now. I think there's been one time where they were even listed as in stock at a non-marked up price and they evaporated by th...

Re: Help me build an expensive superfriends Angus Mackenzie deck

I know Eight-and-a-Half-Tails was suggested but I don't think they factored in that you really want to hold up wug for Angus Mackenzie . It's just too mana intensive to operate both. Nope, that was intentional. The initial list of considerations had a few Dueling Grounds style cards, which make 8.5...

Re: Help me build an expensive superfriends Angus Mackenzie deck

You could benefit from defining a theme a little more focused than "expensive cards". You have a few cards that are powerful, but not really contributing to what it looks like you're trying to do (stall the board to take advantage of powerful walkers and generate late game advantage). Cutt...

Re: [mtgnexus] Random Card of the Day - Wayfarer's Bauble

I've had it in Jaya more or less since the deck was created and would be surprised to ever cut it. While it's never going to be the most exciting card in the deck, the small synergies with the Goblin Welder effects, Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle , Gauntlet of Power effects, Rings of Brighthearth , an...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

A couple of years ago I went to Sylman's for lunch, hit up the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and then watched Metric live. Probably the most enjoyable day of my life so far. Without knowing anything about the restaurant or the museum, that sounds like a nice day. I only had 2 planned shows ca...

Re: Orvar's Mono U Spellslinger

With adding an artifact tutor in I also contemplated possibly adding Isochron Scepter to my list but in retrospect I actually don't think that the spell is cast with it which would mean no copies from Orvar. Its a shame as I think my deck consistency would support it fairly well. Scepter does cast ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Welp, you got the bog. I have to say, the I really love the old frame for lands and colorless artifacts. The aforementioned Bog and Panharmonicon look really, really good. EDIT: It's nice to feel almost 100% positive on something MtG-related. It feels like it's been a while since I've been able to ...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I was really hoping for old frame Life from the Loam, more for legacy than EDH. I'm still holding out hope for a couple lands (Bojuka Bog, Field of the Dead, or Dark Depths) that haven't been crunched out yet.

Re: Warhammer 40K, Lord of the Rings, and other IPs in Magic.

I haven't read most of the previous discussion here so some of this may be already covered in previous posts. My initial reaction to this was that it was pretty much the end of my heavy involvement with the game. After sleeping on it for a few days that's still more or less where I'm at. I don't hav...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

We planned for ~80 people when I got married and I think it still ran up to $7-8000, most of which was catering. I was working for a company that did small destination weddings so I got everything for the ceremony, the sound system for the reception, and a photographer at basically cost. Trying to p...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Yeah I agree, that isn't what this is. They've been a lot more delicate with this play than they were with TWD, to the point where it's not really a fair comparison. It seems like they're trying to make these somewhat of stand-alone products that aren't MtG canon per se, while still being legal out...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I'm holding judgment on the LotR/40k news until we have more information on the sets but I have no idea how 40k in particular is supposed to fit into MtG in a lore friendly way. Part of the appeal of the game is a distinct universe, so turning it into more of a pop culture dumping ground isn't reall...

Re: Of Prices and "Playtest Cards"

Proxy down to the basic lands if you want. The only real preferences I have are that you at least print out something with a picture if you're not making it on the spot to make it easy to quickly assess game state and be aware of the table's power level when you build. Me playing longer and/or havin...

I'll second that more SSD storage is a good call but if you're happy with the amount you have those look like decent specs. You should be able to run most modern games pretty well with that.

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

... Oracle of Mul Daya foil is $130. When did that happen? Back in the day, I had $14 of eBay credit and put it towards a slightly beat up judge foil Regrowth|G05 , so ended up paying about $2 for it. A couple years later, I traded it to a friend for a judge foil Wheel of Fortune|G10 (around $10-20...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

I've been a little tempted to unload some of my pricier stuff with all of the current price movements. It's not like I actually go out and play legacy all that often, even outside of global pandemic scenarios.

Re: Mono-R Control with Jaya Ballard!

All fair. Being a pet card is a good enough reason to run something. I stick Markov Blademaster into way more decks than I would if I were just optimizing for power. For GY hate, I like asymmetrical options here. Jaya plays nicely with GY interaction and usually isn't stocked with nice reanimation t...

Re: Mono-R Control with Jaya Ballard!

I like a lot of your additions. In the updated list the stuff I'm curious about is Hoarding Dragon - I'm not seeing any dragon interactions and Goblin Engineer finds most of the same things while playing nice with the goblin package. Is that worth a swap? Mana-Charged Dragon - How often do other pla...

Re: Ephara, God of the Polis - Flash & Taxes

It's a minor upgrade, but adding some snow basics makes Field a hair more reliable. I'm a fan of 1 of each snow-covered, then make a point of grabbing those when you tutor basics. Less chance of drawing into additional copies of the snow-covered/non-snow-covered basic you already have that way. Marg...

Re: Mono-R Control with Jaya Ballard!

So I've kind of been neglecting this thread thanks to Covid. I haven't played in a year, so there's not a lot of motivation to upkeep and I haven't been on the site as much. I'll hit a couple of the things that have happened in that time. materpillar It's been a few months, but you're doing some fun...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

Does anyone have images of the Kaldheim substitute card [s] , or at least a number of some kind to indicate which of the helper cards it is? I'm not a fan of repeatedly unsleeving and resleeving during games so the checklist cards work much better, but I'm not having much luck finding images for the...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread

After years of reading complaints about aggro not being a playable archetype in EDH it's kind of a nice change of pace to see someone thinking it's too good. Red zone based decks being more competitive doesn't seem like a bad thing to me.
