You could probably just make it so non-flying creature can't attack you. I guess this let's them still get combat triggers though. If that was the intent, then ignore this comment lol
I like your way of doing it better. It's simpler and more effective overall, both of the things that a card rework is meant to do.
This card appears to be designed to create a strong defensive strategy in your game, protecting your lands and making it difficult for your opponent's creatures to attack you. It's quite thematic with the concept of a gatekeeper NBA Grid guarding Newtopia.
