Arcanepellago is a (WIP) mega-set based off of a DnD campaign I run. It is a pirate campaign in a fantasy-earth in an ambitious 1500-1700ish time period in a magically expanded totally-not-the-Caribbean called the "Arcanepellago". The world is split into several empires and pirate fleets all trying to lay claim on the new world.
While making the set I realized it very quickly expanded past the point of a normal set in terms of volume. Now the goal is to make it closer to a format / draft environment. That is to say, the total number of cards in the set is akin to the total number of cards in standard. The intended format is commander (100 card, singleton, multiplayer) modified such that hybrid mana counts as "or" instead of "and".
New Mechanics
Signature - Signature is a new mechanic for the set that represents cards with close associations with each other. The wizard Leon is never without his pet imp, Agoch. Where sorcerer-priest Galen goes, thunderous lightning surly follows. The druid Olli has gotten out of impossible situations by turning into a variety of beasts. Cards with signature list one or more other cards by name. When you cast a spell with signature, you choose up to one of its named signature cards. If you do, search your library for it, reveal it, put it into your hand, and shuffle your library. Flavor meets function as building a deck with related cards now makes the deck more reliable!
Temple/Fort - Temples and Forts are new land types in the set. Similar to Desert or Gate, the land type has no inherent meaning itself, but is referenced by other cards.
