Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

I just struggle to understand the other views on this. You can either continue to ban out the REASON for decks to exist, effectively you can kill those decks, or you can ban the cards that make those decks too good. What do you people want? To me its simple, you ban out the cards that make decks to...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

I disagree completely. The deck isnt broken by Titan. The deck exists for Titan. This is all well and good, but we can apply this logic to many banned cards like Hogaak, KCI, etc. Ultimately the T3 goldfish for the deck are facilitated by Titan, even if Titan gets a pass this time around can we hon...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

How the %$#% do you go from "midrange loses to big mana" to "Do you have data that shows that players enjoy solitaire formats more than mid range formats" is beyond me.I never even implied something even remotely close to the latter. I said simply that "midrange loses to bi...

A mid range that can race/beat ramp/big mana will destroy the format, because of no weakness.
What is this based on? Do you have data that shows that players enjoy solitaire formats more than mid range formats? When has this even happened in Modern?

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Midrange is supposed to lose to Big Mana, that's by design. Okay but why should we even accept this premise, why not want more out of Modern than a goldfish simulator where the actual game is more of a nuisance than anything else? When the game becomes so linear and matchups so polarizingly lopside...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Regarding this, banning Veil will change more than banning OUaT. Honestly, from what I've seen at my local meta, it might not even matter that much. The general logic at my store at least is that when everyone is just trying to goldfish faster then the other person (which amulet can), Veil ends up ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Once again the OUaT scapegoating begins. Look guys, we can all agree Modern is a big mana format right now, but lets be real here, Big mana was broken before 2019, decks like Tron have preyed on fair decks for literally years now which inevitably devolves the format into big mana vs aggro/combo to j...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

They used to actually promote forums, and dedicated spaces for specific decks. Most of the community they promote these days pushes people to Twitch, and they didn't really step in to do anything to stop people from flocking to Discord. Neither of which is great for interaction or easily archived w...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

All of that stuff used to be available. I could read 20 pages on each forum thread for 40 different decks, in about 2 hours, and catch up on everything across the entire format from basically every perspective. Doing so now is much, much harder because organized Magic communities have essentially c...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Want to know what my issue is right now? I can't find a deck. I can go on MTGTop8 and look at lists that have done well, but MTGS is dead for deck discussion as is this forum. I can't actually easily find a bunch of threads talking about various decks and how they've done in the current meta from t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Is anything written there in any way exaggerated, incorrect, inaccurate, or misleading about Modern? Because regardless of my feelings on the format today, it really seems that Modern is, at best, defined by broken decks, banned decks, fear of bannings, pockets of chaos between bannings. How else c...

That's not what he's saying. He's saying you cannot have both a randomized product and then reprint the select few high-value cards to extract more money from these. The reprint must look like they were selected for reasons other than their value. (I don't quite understand the logic behind this, if...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

I don't recall the exact details, but I seem to recall stuff on some other forum noting that this kind of behavior from Wizards would actually be illegal, related to some of the laws surrounding how things like booster packs of trading card games and things like baseball cards became legal. Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

I chose "Identifying a single Wizards point of contact for Modern" it just seems like the absolute minimum for our efforts to even mean anything in the first place. Without a consensus, we have no message, without a message, Wotc has no reason to act. I remember years back when Wotc cut Mo...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

I don't think this will work out as well as they think it will. Not only will players be more afraid of investing in decks because they can't be sure of ban targets, but they'll be afraid of playing at all knowing there might be secret T0 decks out there that they don't stand a chance against that ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

I suspect part of this decision is to protect internal politics at Wizards, which has probably taken a hit recently with how many cards are getting banned, and the not dealing with criticism well sensibilities of the type to design such cards. They want to avoid, or at least delay, bans, not just b...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

#2 is the most likely outcome. If something it T1 or T0 but everyone is playing T2 or T3, it's not apparent the game is unbalanced and they can hide the necessity of a ban. Agreed, especially in the context of local scenes. It's a good argument using the games history that withholding data makes ba...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

My view on the data publishing changes is that ultimately it's nothing new, they have been scaling back data releases for years, though initially it was more of a Standard specific policy due to the shear ease of solving such a smaller format, even on a rotating basis. What I think the effect of thi...

My concern is making sure enough people actually show up for events to fire. And that the actual gameplay isn't just an open face comparison of the top 10 cards of our libraries. This is a great summary of my fealings of the format as well, at some point when the format becomes so linera/golfishy/s...

[Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Ox makes dredge so gross, I played a bit against it on Friday night and it made some gross turns. Tron, Titan decks and Dredge is probably a fair assumption since the bans. I think in the best case scenario, it just makes for absolutely terrible optics to have dredge anywhere near the top of the fo...

Idk if we can see it is perfect when the top tier of the format is Tron, Titanshift, and perhaps dredge (AGAIN) now that it has that stupid Ox.

at this point it feels like there's not much more to argue about. Thing look fine.
Things looking fine in a niche EU tournament does not mean anything. The argument continues.

I follow a number of magic folks (shocker) on twitter, and the fact you can Mull to 3 in this format and still win is not a positive feature.
To be fair though, if there is literally only 1 or 2 decks in the format that can do that, what is more the problem, the LM or those decks?
