Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

He's not on the hook for whatever power level Play Design/ Development assigned them. Companions can be fun, Lurrus isn't. Old formats can handle an essentially 2 for 1. Lurrus is a problem. We've seen that with other mechanics as well, where the idea is fine (or even good) and they overshoot the p...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Maro said on twitter he is responsable for putting Companions in Ikoria. Now it is time for him to take accountability and leave Wotc already. He is over the top. The passed 2 years all he has done is break magic and make formats unplayable over and over again with every new set.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Lurrus was a mistake with little consequences (for me at least). By the time we get to play paper magic again it is already banned. Its fate has been sealed IMO. The will first ban it in Vintage and Legacy, let is fester 2 months longer in Modern because that is what they always do. They always sacr...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

My fear is they will only ban Lurrus and we go back to Astrolabe.format and Veil suppressing all disruption. At this point I would rather unban OUaT and ban Veil and go back to how things were 4 months ago. In general, without Veil the format will be better off.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I also lost interest in Modern. Haven't played for months and as long as Veil, Astrolabe and now Lurrus too are legal I won't be coming back either. When you join the Dark Side and play one or more of those, it's not as bad. However, my fears are still there in that no deck is safe to buy into. Eit...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

It didn't immediately lose me the game, but it put me behind by, yea, one resolved Ancestral Vision, but without me having had any opportunity to interact with it. A few turns later, he was able to force through a Kroxa because he had 6 cards in hand and I had 3. The game had gone completely evenly...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Hyperbolic. Burn, Tron, Dredge, Titan, and probably Humans, are all 'pillars' that have been around for years. If you remove Humans, those decks have been part of Modern for the better part of a decade. That is like saying Aggro and Bigmana are pillars of Modern. That is way to broad to define Mode...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I don't think Modern has format pillars any more, it has metagame pillars. They change with every new set that introduces broken cards when the old pillars are replaced by new ones. This is why people including myself no longer see Modern as a strictly non-rotating format.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I agree with TheBoulderer that the card that pushed Dredge over the top was Creeping Chill because of the reasons mentioned. The more I think about Lurrus the more broken he becomes. Like even without the companion mechanic he would see tons of play. Compared to Renegade Rallier and Ramunap Exavator...

Right now, there is a Tier 1 Bolt-Snap-Bolt tempo deck. Sprite Dragon and Lurrus have made Delver a powerhouse. You should enjoy it, if you like those kind of decks.
Sprite Dragon is very overpowered. I slammed it into my deck the moment it was spoiled.

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Lurrus will get banned 100% in Vintage but that is anecdotal. I do believe the only reason they haven't announced it already is because they are waiting to see how things develop in other formats as well and do 1 big announcement rather than several small ones following each other up in a relative s...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I am glad I am not missing out on anything. Companions will be banned before Corona crisis is resolved and we can play paper magic again. This will have staff consequences. Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

If it wasn't for Covid-19 and the crash of prizes in paper I would sell my collection after playing for 20+ years. I feel worn out because Modern and Legacy are not the nonrotating formates they want us to believe. The game has changed too much for my liking. I will definitely skip this set. I won't...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

People are forgetting the most important and fundamental aspects of MTG: FUN and money Modern hasn't been fun for a very long time, Pioneer turned out to not be so fun either, Standard is well.....in shambles and then came Uro. Its just very stall and dull. Now we are heading into a financial crisis...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 03/09/2020)

I haven't played Modern since January and can't be bothered by it any more. I don't like the banning of OUaT because others like Astrolabe and Veil got to stay. As long as those cards remain legal I don't see myself playing Modern. My deck is now unplayable because it lost OUaT but the other cards t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

I was going to buy into a Snow deck just when the Coronacrisis started. Also I just don't see Astrolabe stay legal by t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 12/16/2019)

I already thought about Astrolabe and I have to agree with Aazadan. If Urza and Oko get banned and Tron receives a significant nerf I already know which deck will rise to the top: 4c Astrolabe+W6 control. W6 alone is enough to bury any opposing midrange deck in CA while also shutting down any x/1 c...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

From a metagame perspective, what's wrong with a variety of different, unique 3C+ Astrolabe decks coexisting? Astrolabe does more than just fundamentally breaking the colour pie by creating perfect manabases. It also fundamentally breaks the snow mechanic. Snow cards are more powerful relative to t...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Overall, I'd be happy with a Modern format, or a Modern PT, where 25% of the room is on 3C+ Astrolabe good stuff variants. I wouldn't be fine with 50 shades of Astrolabe. It breaks a fundamental definition of what MTG is in that is colour pie. Card needs to go but I fear they will only ban OUAT and...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 01/13/2020)

Banning OUAT will only kill off Creature toolbox decks and other decks that have emerged with it while only hitting Eldratron, Tron and Amulet at the margin. Tron will go back to Ancient Stirrings and Sylvan Scrying, Eldratron didn't really needed it anyway, Amulet Titan will play Explore again. For...
