Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I feel modern is way too popular of a format for them to let die. Even with the people who claim to not enjoy playing MH cards, there are people who love the impact MH sets have on modern. At least in my are, modern events easily get the best turnouts by far, to the point stores won't consider runni...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

thanks, Still feels weird I've been doing well, especially since I felt I was pretty stagnant before I switched off murktide. I also never played in an RPTQ under the PPTQ system, but I've qualified for 2 RC's less than a year into this system

Out in Victoria, British Columbia on course for work for 2 months. This course is probably gonna give me a lot of free time but adjusting to being 3 hours behind the time zone I've spent 99% of my life in is gonna suck

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

Interested to see. What does the Minor Misstep do? The card link does not work. 1 mana counterspell that counters something with mana value 1 or less. So it's a non-free mental misstep, but for the one mana you also get to counter 0 cost spells. I mean modern has "free" spells like force ...

Re: [Placeholder] Primer - UR Delver

went 3-1 at a legacy event last weekend. R1 2-0'd d and t. Game 1 they mulled to 5 but had lot of answers. Won because they couldn't stick a threat. Ran over them g2. R2 2-0'd the mirror. Game 1 I baited him into a counter war over his t1 delver, then he was never able to recover cars and I saw more...

Minor Misstep seems pretty good right now in modern with how streamlined the format is. Actaully having to pay mana makes it more restrictive but I can see it being gine

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

tbh an Expressive Iteration ban might actually be a reasonable choice. Card powers a lot of stuff. That way it's still an impactful ban without angering people who spent a bunch of money on a card to have it banned

Re: [Placeholder] Primer - UR Delver

15 players there, guess I forgot to include that. Even the d and t players I beat said he didn't expect me to bounce his sword. I actually had to think about the play for a second, which I'm glad I recognized an out to that

Might end up going to a legacy event at the same store tomorrow

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I'm really enjoying modern as it it and I think I agree with waiting until the LOTR set to see what it has in it. WotC has probably already finished the set, so they know what they'll be printing. I mean we've gone this long with the broken MH2 stuff, so might as well just wait the 6 or so months to...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I feel that every so often, different strategies will come up to challenge the top decks but will come up short. Creativity, Yawg, Titan, Shadow etc. I'd still like to see some kind of errata to evoke so it can't be abused as bad

won a free legacy event yesterday, going 4-0 r1 2-0 a temur pile. G1 he was only really able to cast a Minsc & Boo, Timeless Heroes after a mull to 5, which I countered. G2 he had a Greater Gargadon on suspend, when he had 2 counters left on he he sacrificed his 2 lands without floating mana, wh...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/13/2020)

I feel that with how much the MH cards warp modern, the power creep associated with the sets can be worrisome. Even though I still really enjoy modern as a format, it'll be interesting to see the design space they use with future mh sets

Won a 9 person RCQ with Rakdos Scam to get my invite and the playmat. R1 got the bye R2 beat Titan 2-0, g1 he conceded to a t1 grief because his hand was so bad. G2 just kept putting pressure on. R3 beat murktide 2-1. G1 he ran me over. G2 he kept a loose hand which I ripped apart. G3 I got a t1 gri...

Just errata evoke to have split-second.

That being said, I agree with iTalenTZ that the problems are that answers have become answers to answers and multi-colors is too easy and not punishable.
I think this would be very reasonable and would make the format MUCH more fun

yeah a big problem with the evoke elementals is playing around when they can blink it/play an Undying Malice type effect. Especially with a Grief because they can either take your counter or removal or play the spell to get it back in response

the etb tapped aspect of triomes isn't actually that bad because of the fact you can just fetch when you don't need the mana. Abundant Growth really minimizes the impact of their etb tapped

I feel 2 huge problems with modern right now are the triomes being fetchable and how evoke works as a mechanic. The fact that you can use any blink type effect (counting the black effects that can get them back as well) with the sac from evoke on the stack is really good. Triomes make 4c good stuff ...
