Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
Feral Ghoul looks okish aldo the drain might be slow? I wouldn't personally look at it in any other context than loops. Mill is iffy in terms of an in game advantage weapon, there's lots of decks out there that want their yard stacked (look at us heh). If we can keep looping other creatures in an o...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I like Magic, but it's gotten too aesthetically complicated as they turn it into the Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny. I get this, but honestly for me it's more a case of Magic losing sight of it's own identity. Much like the kid starting high school and trying to find a clique to fit in, the ...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
Yea Winds, that card slaps. An excellent choice. I guess in terms of removal our best options aside from Winds, which I think is top tier here, are Deluge and Damn. I don't think either is stellar here, but they are both still quite good. I think I nominate Deluge; while we're still quite low to the...

Re: How familiar are you with Doctor Who?
EDIT: Just want to clarify that I am actually genuinely proud of the design of this one. You should be. I love the name of the second ability, it's perfect. Designer intent is "... enters the battlefield under your control ..." but in my haste I neglected to edit that part. I think Bandin...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
Yeah I don't think it's terrible by any stretch. Flavor wise, it's amazing.
In terms of play lines you can beef your creatures a little, neutralize threats on the opposing boards, island lock your opponents or color fix yourself. It is slow, for sure, but there's something there.

You know, MaRo always says that people's opinion of UB changes when a property they really love comes along. I wonder if that'll be true for me. Hmm. Nightman, Sneaky and Mean [sym=2][sym=b][sym=b] Legendary Creature - Human Rogue Skulk Spider Inside My Dreams - When Nightman enters the battlefield...

Re: Most brain-dead commanders in existence
I actually wonder if something like Ruric Thar, the Unbowed would make a good novice deck. It does what it says on the tin, scorches the table for interacting. In that sense it keeps the game from getting too complex for a newbie to manage. Literally all you need to do is get your land drops, play y...

Re: Most brain-dead commanders in existence
Heh, I was gonna suggest Purph 2.0. Honestly an elfball commander like Ezuri, Renegade Leader probably fits the bill. Literally could not be easier to pilot. Vomit elves, turn them sideways, profit. In the same vein, Krenko, Mob Boss probably does the same thing from the other side of the arrangemen...

And yeah @toctheyounger after watching/reading some non-spoiler reviews for Hereditary, I think I've gotta sit on my decision for a while longer. It sounds like a genuinely brilliant piece of film-making, but it might be too much for me. Totally understand! I'd still recommend Midsommar. While it's...

Having skimmed real quick it actually sounds like a good idea. I'm glad they've done it, it probably should've happened sooner. Be interesting to see what happens to the price though lol.Hermes_ wrote: ↑7 months agohttps://magic.wizards.com/en/news/makin ... y-boosters

I really enjoyed the Jordan Peele movies I agree. Get Out was quite good too, I'm interested in seeing more of his stuff. There's a particular Key and Peele sketch of theirs; as soon as I saw it I was like 'damn, this guy could direct horror'. It's the Urkel sketch, y'all should look into it. It's ...

Yea for Dispute, it's a great card. Also, I recant my critique of Mishra. I still don't think the meld is that much better that the engine is worthwhile, but if it triggers from Isshin Mishra is worth it.

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
I think Mishra is great, and I don't follow toctheyounger's point about not working with Adeline. Don't you stack the triggers the same way you do with Hero of Bladehold's battle cry? What am I missing? This answer will determine my vote I guess! I would've thought it wouldn't recognise creatures t...

Re: The Community Deck Build Project v9.0
So let's have a conversation about that. I suspect the better use of resources in these slots is all the Seize the Spoils/Big Score effects so we can get a mana boost and filter, which feels less time walkey than playing a mana stone + pass. I guess Arcane Signet/Fellwar Stone are still playable th...

EDIT: Any good horror movies anyone can recommend, particularly you @toctheyounger? I stay away from evil spirit/demon movies because of life experiences, but I'm ALWAYS down for a good slasher or monster movie. I agree, I thought both It films were quite good. The second was a bit of a drop off, b...

Re: [Off-Topic] Community Chat Thread
I just did one for Ghyrson Starn, Kelermorph . I can't stand the Warhammer artworks (even if Ghyrson is kinda ok looking), so I crafted a Roland Deschain version (the gunslinging protagonist of King's Dark Tower, give it a read and don't watch the crappy movie! It's just 8 books). I used art from t...

I like Mastery, and I like Push. Yea for both. Stronghold I am not into, I think it's seen it's time in the sun despite 3drinks' hipster predilections. I'm going to nominate Mangara, the Diplomat . This has an attack trigger, and yes Isshin will proc it. It's a little bit of pseudo-protection, and I...

Re: Varina, Lich Queen - Esper Zombie Midrange
I've definitely looked at Vesper before. And, while I'm not quite brave enough I've always wondered how viable Lich Lord of Unx is as a mana sink win condition.
