Cost this effect (big splashy Black draw sorcery)
This is an idea that I had when thinking, "How would Contract from Below be balanced differently if it didn't involve ante?" Blood Pact ver, A (Black) Sorcery Exile your all cards in your hand, then draw 7 cards and your life total becomes 7. Blood Pact ver. B (Black) Sorcery Exile your al...

Naiad of Hidden Coves to Dryad of Hidden Groves...what's the cost?
So if you haven't seen the spoilers, this card got spoiled from Theros: Beyond Death: Naiad of Hidden Coves 2U Enchantment Creature - Nymph (C) As long as it's not your turn, spells you cast cost 1 less. 2/3 In a reddit thread, someone made the typo "Naiad of Hidden Groves" and I thought ...

Re: Newbie rules mistakes you did when you were new to mtg?
I used to think I could play Kjeldoran Dead, sacrifice it to itself, and then pay the regeneration to keep it from being sacrificed. That made it pretty damn strong.

Re: Ikoria speculation
My guess was something like this: "Combine <Cost>" means " <Cost>: Attach this permanent to target creature you control, and it stops being a creature for as long as it's attached. Combine only as a sorcery. " This plays in the thematic space of Godzilla, other kaiju, Voltron, ga...

Re: Badgers
This reminded me of the old Internet flash memes... Badger Song 2G Sorcery Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a land card, then shuffle your library. Create a 1/1 green Badger creature token with trample for each nonland card revealed this way, and a 1/1 green Snake creature ...

Speculation on Ikoria mechanics, Combine
So as Maro said on the announcement stream about Ikoria: "...you get to play with monsters, and you get to make monsters. It's one of the craziest mechanics we've made in quite a while." So one thing this could obviously be is the Meld/Host mechanic of Unstable come to black-bordered magic...

Enigma ability
In terms of how this ability works, it's pretty straightforward, but wording it concisely, and fitting it in the text box, is tripping me up. So basically, I want to have cards with "Enigma," that exile the top three cards of your library face down as they enter the battlefield, except the...

Power and toughness switching is unintuitive, and I think there's a better way to word it
In Magic, I feel like power/toughness switching is one situation where "Reading the card does not explain the card." The way it works is not what most players would guess, based on how it's written. I was just playing against someone using a Tireless Tribe / Inside Out combo deck for the f...

Re: how often do you play Magic?
I play Pauper every Thursday night, plus one extra time a month at a place that does it the last Friday of the month. Occasionally another big thing like a MagicFest or Pre-Release. I feel like "slightly more than once a week" is a good balance. Oh wait, except I'm also playing on MTGO and...

Re: [official]Basic land discussion
I have a lot of decks (about 30-something Pauper decks), so I can't be too picky on which lands I use. My favorite basics are probably the Unglued full-arts. I opened a lot of Unglued packs as a kid, so they have a certain nostalgia to me. Compared to other full-arts, the Unglued lands have this old...

Re: Dreamed about magic cards?
I can remember a few Magic-related dreams I've had over the year: 1st time, I dreamed I was with my dad around North Station in Boston, and see a vendor on the street selling Magic cards. I bought a Badlands for $10, which in the dream had the art of Bad Moon (this was about 16 years ago, so $10 for...

Re: question about burn
Burn is definitely a very viable deck! This is an example of competitive Burn list: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/pauper-burn-50950#paper Some other cards that occasionally make it into the maindeck are Flame Rift , Magma Jet , Shard Volley , Firebrand Archer . I like to play a completely cr...

Could Historic make the move to paper tournaments?
Consider the following points: Pauper started as a purely online format, and then migrated to paper Historic fills an organic need/desire for players for a non-rotating format, but at a cheaper cost than Modern. Frontier arose organically and actually got some play for awhile. Just imagine if it was...

Established vs. Deck Creation?
I just wanted to get some clarification: what's the dividing line between whether a deck should go in "Established" vs "Deck Creation?" Is Established only for decks with some real, concrete tournament results? I wanted to create a thread to work on the Corrupt Control archetype....

Looks like a cool deck, but wouldn't this be more apropros in the "Deck Creation" sub forum rather than Established?

Re: [Developing] Blastodrake
One thing that's always seemed off about this deck concept is how the bouncers ( Invasive Species , Dream Stalker , Wormfang Drake ) are so much lower on the mana curve than the cards you wanna bounce ( Blastoderm ). Seems kinda awkward. I wonder if you've considered trying a GB or GBu version of th...
