Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

The more ideas the better. Here's my thoughts: T3feri is an obvious main deck include. The only question is how many. I also think the deck might want to be Twin in the main deck with a SFM package in the sideboard as a transformational sideboard plan. The things that Twin is bad against are general...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

Hey everyone, something came up for Gkourou and he's not going to be available to test for a couple weeks. In the meantime, you all down to theory craft some 3 color builds?

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I don't think it should make Modern Horizons look bad either. I'm fine with a few cards in Horizons turning out to be too pushed and eating bans if it means we get to keep other nice cards designed for/reprinted into Modern. Agreed. The only major thing I want them to change for MH2 is not to make ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Yeah, for Legacy it's not that strong because they have Sneak Attack and Show and Tell which do basically the same thing without the deck building constriction of not being able to play 1 or 2 drops, which is pretty big in a format where Brainstorm is legal. The Force of Negation decks could beat Hy...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I think you'd be surprised at how consistent a Hypergenesis deck can be. They can run a City of Brass and Mana Confluence mana base because when they are casting a spell, they're killing you. That means they can pretty easily play all 12 copies of the 3 mana cascaders, and just fill the rest of thei...

Seems good to me. I talked to some guys in /r/lavaspike about how to board with Burn, and they said board out Cracks and Spikes.

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

The main point is that the "it doesn't let the turn 4 combo happen" is super rare. I might have to tweak numbers, but it's extraordinarily low. Low enough to not be a reason alone to disqualify. It may not be correct to play a copy, but to cite this as the specific and only reason not to ...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

There's a big difference between Hypergenesis and Living End. 1) Living End requires setup. You have to put your cyclers in the graveyard to pop them back out with a Living End. Hypergenesis does not, it just requires keeping a good hand and getting to 3 mana to cascade into it. 2) Living End is vul...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

You shouldn't multiply by the t4 combo % there. There's actually a 56% chance that one of your first three lands aren't an island, there's also the loothouse and mountain. Then, there's an 18% chance the Mystic Sanctuary is one of the first 4 lands you draw, which brings you to a 10% chance overall ...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

I'm in Eastern US time. Xmage should work, I'll just have to redownload it. I figure we can start at the top of the meta with Burn, here's a pretty stock list: Creatures 4 Eidolon of the Great Revel 4 Goblin Guide 4 Monastery Swiftspear Spells 4 Lava Spike 4 Rift Bolt 4 Skewer the Critics 4 Boros Ch...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

Calls for W6 bans are laughable at this point. Calls for PO ban are VERY premature. We need to actually see some oppression, not just a bunch of people SAYING its going to be good. This is all just speculative talk. I agree that there's no reason to ban W6, I don't even understand why people are ta...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

Ok, BBD got back to me pretty quickly, lol. He said he'd probably play around with some numbers, but overall it looked like a solid build to him. He agreed that Jace should be in the board, he said just set up the main to combo. I'm pretty happy with this 75, [mention]gkourou[/mention] , you good wi...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

I'm confused. Do people think Splinter Twin is getting unbanned? Not within the next year, no, because WotC doesn't do unbannings more often than once a year, but the purpose of this is to test Twin in the current meta and see where it is from a power standpoint. A lot of people have a lot of opini...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

[mention]TheAnnihilator[/mention] What would you want to put in for the 3rd Charm? The 23rd land? As for Seasoned Pyromancer, I think we only have 3 or 4 sideboard slots for the fair matchups. 2 of those are Jace, 1 is either Keranos or Ral. I've seen a lot of you guys skipping sweepers, and I think...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

Blue Moon has been playing 1 Mountain and 1 Loothouse with Charms. I think we can get away with 2 nonblue lands. I really don't like Spirebluff Canal, though, I don't want anything that could come in play tapped as my 4th land, that will absolutely lose games for you. I would also swap the 2 P&K...

Re: Splinter Twin vs. Modern gauntlet testing discussion

List A, but if it were up to me I'd switch the Jaces and the Forces, and play something else than P&K, maybe another Clique or a Seasoned Pyromancer. I can really go either way on numbers for the cantrips, too. I think we want a mix of both, and ideally we'd be playing 4 of both, but we just can...

Re: [Official] State of Modern Thread (B&R 07/08/2019)

I think banning Paradoxical Outcome would be the best option if this deck ends up being too much. Nobody else plays the card, so there's no splash damage, and Urza decks go back to the Whirza builds, which while strong didn't feel like they were too much for Modern.
