Re: When a game ends up 1v1 - Gloves on or off?
I agree with tempoEDH: regardless if there were gloves on before, unless the two people spectating want to see a long and drawn-out game, it's in your best interest to end it quickly.

Re: SCD: Golos, Tired-Ass Pilgrim
I know for certain that if I knew I was playing against a lot of Golos, depending on the deck I'd play something like Blood Moon or Armageddon, especially if without those cards we were losing more often than not. They get salty because their lands are messed with? Boo hoo, you can play counterspell...

Re: SCD: Golos, Tired-Ass Pilgrim
Golos isn't overpowered from my perspective of primarily playing cEDH, but I wouldn't shed a tear if it were banned. I played Golos "all the annoying value creatures" and it was the most mind-numbing experience: I either lost because there were too many board wipes without really doing any...

Re: Interesting post on r/EDH
Its an easy fix I think. If there is a deck everyone hates playing against, but the pilot really wants to play it every once in awhile, the agreement should be that the pilot of the deck gets to play it every once in awhile but lets everyone know they will be, and lets everyone bring in decks that ...

Interesting post on r/EDH
https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/gr12ax/youre_a_jerk_if_all_you_do_is_play_your_stax_deck/ Everyone loves preaching about the social contract and rule 0 when it comes to groups regulating what is or isn't seen as fun in their own metas, but I feel that far too often people ignore the fact that ...

Re: [SCD] Drannith Magistrate
Like any stax piece, Drannith Magistrate can be dealt with through removal, and even if there are hard locks with cards like Knowledge Pool, those can be disrupted too. As much as it feels bad to not be able to play one's commander, unlike some combos dealing with a 1/3 creature does not require any...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
Personally for me, as long as the content is there I'm perfectly fine with ignoring the occasional nastiness that comes up. All the competitive MTG subreddits have good content at times, even if occasionally things devolve into anti-WoTC hysteria or endless flame wars. I'd be hard-pressed to find a ...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
cEDH extremists have a much easier time staying cohesive, and thus amplifying their voice, because they are all in agreement that if it's legal it's allowed. The people (who I disagree with) who rule O'd Flash Hulk until it could be dealt with would disagree, but aside from those rare exceptions, t...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
I know people complain about the magicTCG mods as being a bit too trigger-happy to delete things, apparently, but I'm curious what the moderation of the main EDH subreddit is like. It's a lot more heavily-trafficked than the cEDH subreddit, while attracting many of the same people and many more. Par...

Re: Teaching my gf to play Magic
Starting with EDH will generally not go so well unless everyone involved is extremely patient. Start with the welcome decks until they learn the fundamental rules, then maybe move to more complicated constructed decks that don't introduce new rules like EDH.

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
2.5% of the EDH player base at large is a different statistic than the percentage that engage in online discussions such as these. I also have no way personally of estimating the size of the militant casual contingent, as while 25% or more easily could play at that general power level, I doubt all o...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
I don't see any casuals doing anything beyond being keyboard warriors While correct, some of that is because they generally tend to be less active online in places like Reddit (I've personally run into the most militant casual players on Untap while seeing extremely few militant competitive players...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
Here's perhaps a more interesting thread on the EDH subreddit, and somewhat unique in that Sheldon responded: https://www.reddit.com/r/EDH/comments/g5vkps/them_and_their_format_please_just_stop_it/ The purpose of this thread is not to continue ragging on Toby Elliott and the Rules Committee, but I w...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
Quoting a laundry list of logical fallacies to make MTGNexus users seem like cave trolls hiding in their den, occasionally venturing outside to steal a goat to savagely rip apart with their bare teeth, isn't doing much to help your argument. You're quite correct, honestly, but your delivery is off.

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
I think you'll find that banning partners is a far more unpopular opinion than banning flash among self-identified cEDH players at large. What I do think would be an interesting exercise would be if all the partner cards that specifically said "Partners with _______" instead worked with an...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
You isolate yourself from at the least 50% of the format simply by building a deck. It's impossible to build a deck that does not have horrendous games with a significant portion of the format. Exactly. There's no issue when someone's "cards that start with the letter S" tribal deck isola...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
I would think for any format, regardless of how competitively it is played, balance is a reasonable goal, especially when this balance doesn't come at the expense of fun. I don't think many people believe Flash being banned makes EDH less fun in any quantifiable terms other than some looming fear th...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
Since he specifically said organizers, that makes me think tournaments. That makes sense, and I think it would be an interesting idea for an article, especially with how more and more Magicfests are offering EDH on the side, offering suggestions for how sanctioned EDH play should be handled. Even i...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
I don't think it's an unnatural or illogical response to react to a ban that while certainly appreciated, runs at odds with prior messaging that seems quite hostile, with a closer read than "OK, well it seems like our problem was solved!". I don't necessarily want to comb through the secti...

Re: Ban List Update - Flash Banned
Thinking a new "Flash" won't pop up is foolhardy. By nature, being competitive and going out of one's way to play the best possible decks, lines of play and cards results in there always being decks that overshadow the rest. Not always, although this could end up being true in cEDH's case...

Re: "From outside the game" -- But not a 'Wish'
You'd think more people would be in favor of simple rules over complex rules. It is an extremely small amount of players who are willing to devote significant thought to these principles; if a rule cannot be summarized in a few sentences, including its rationale, there is something wrong with it. I ...

Re: Lutri, the Spellchaser Preemptively Banned
Could this ongoing battle be taken to PMs or something? I feel like most of the longer threads on this forum, especially ones about rules philosophy, devolve into two or three people writing increasingly verbose replies in an attempt to convince the others of something they'll never believe. At the ...
