Re: What Makes Bad Games?

I've played well over 10,000 commander games, so I'm my own inbuilt statistics, and at this stage in my life I know all the patterns and it's just not worth my time anymore with near forgone conclusions. Back in my youth I would have gone in with that "we can do it" attitude, but turns out...

Re: What Makes Bad Games?

Player to go first plays Sol Ring . I go last, game is already over. I've gotten to the point where it's just better for my sanity to concede rather than play the skewed odds. Life is too short to waste on unbalanced starts. I don't mind losing to good games, but these are never good games, so why b...

Re: [SCD] Chulane, Teller of Combos (Let's Brew!)

Yeah, Chulane is going to lead to some boredom. I wonder if he'd be fun in Druid tribal? It'd be easy to chain off with Seton, Krosan Protector and enough lands that EtB untapped. There are at least 70 druids in this color combination that are 2 CMC or less (and can thus chain off without the help ...

Re: Will & Rowan Kenrith - Sparks of Ice and Fire (Superfriends)

I really love these commanders. Yesterday I won a game against Purphoros, God of the Forge and Edgar Markov both with an active Purphoros. Thanks to Ral Zarek and some other cards I got 6 extra turns. End of game and lots of fun (for me). Nevertheless I miss some ultimate lifegain card. Each time I...

Re: [SCD] Chulane, Teller of Combos (Let's Brew!)

Well it's almost impossible to go wrong with this commander, and I feel like there has been a bit of a dumbing down in recent sets, with Yarok, the Desecrated also being an introductory to commander type print. It's almost a case of "is there an interesting way" to build this commander. Al...

Re: Phelddagrif: Show Weakness to Hide Your Strength

Hey, you just need to change the bbcode for horizontal lines and the font size for headers. For example you have syntax for horizontal lines with anchors like this; [anchor id="alternatives"][hr]#16A085[/hr][/anchor] But you'll need to change it like this: [anchor id="alternatives&quo...

Re: [ELD] Chulane, Teller of Tales & Arcane Signet

Chulane, Teller of Tales is pretty credible. The fact that the land doesn't come into play tapped is pretty awesome. This could easily be a lands deck, and things like Shrieking Drake are going to allow you to have a Braingeyser every turn, while being able to put all the lands from your hand into ...

Re: Card list by Role/Function - What's your approach?

It varies from deck list to deck list for me personally, but I ALWAYS try and group by function first and then what is a little more ambiguous or generic by type. The more specialized the deck, the more likely it is that you have specific functions for cards. I think on average the more tuned a deck...

Re: Data on winning turns

Unfortunately it's not a good metric to determine a control decks strength, in fact it's the opposite. One of my most winning decks is a control deck, that looks to stretch the game out as long as possible, grinding players out of resources. Interestingly there is a similar metric that can be used ...

Re: Changing your deck's power level without changing cards

I have a Sisay, Weatherlight Captain deck I play like this. I will adjust how I play the game (what I search for) according to the power level of the rest of the table. So often I'll be setting up creature beats, rather than infinite combos if it seems that the rest of the decks are "fair".

This primer is a thing of beauty. Wow. If you don't mind me asking, did you do the gifs yourself? The glowing magical parts look especially difficult to do. Thanks. Yes I've done a few different animated digital cards for various primers I've done over the years. Basically if I get inspired enough ...

Re: Having Your Voice Heard

I think that Mana Crypt, Sol Ring and Mana Vault are here to stay I would love to see them banned, but I think it would be too big of a change. Command Zone did some analysis on something around 300 games, and they realized that people with fast mana in first 3 turns were actually more likely to lo...

I've played a lot of different shells around Birthing Pod in commander, although not under directly a cEDH setting. But some general concepts I'd like to put across.. Commander converted mana cost can be used to your advantage. Because you can Birthing Pod your commander, choosing the right commande...

Reef Worm + Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar

Trying to figure out the timing if possible. Reef Worm + Nim Deathmantle + Ashnod's Altar If I sacrifice the Reef Worm and the Nim Deathmantle trigger goes on the stack, will the 3/3 token go on stack last, so that I can then sacrifice that, then sacrifice the 6/6, and even the 9/9 to get 8 from Ash...

Prospect of a cEDH Committee on MTGNexus

What has become abundantly clear is that there is a growing divide between how cEDH players want control over the way the game is shaped for their playing environment and the conflict this has with the RC philosophy and subsequent approach to the ban-list. I'm personally am not a big player of cEDH....

Re: Point List

I think a points system in general would be the most balanced way to approach any format. Would people be able to play Ancestral Recall ? Or are you thinking still a ban list on the most powerful cards? I think it could work if people could afford $$ cards to fill up the points system that are still...

Re: PW care Package (Chandra Tribal help)

I'm assuming you're running Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh as your commander? My approach would be tons of looting cards to get as many of those jank Chandra instant and sorcery cards into your graveyard, so that you can use them with Chandra, Acolyte of Flame , Chandra Ablaze , Jaya Ballard and Past in ...

Re: Could use some help with my OG Teysa deck

I have no personal experience with playing Teysa, Orzhov Scion , but there are a few things that I feel could be done. Firstly you should really be running the Darkest Hour combo, and now you have Painter's Servant to further this. I do have a Yawgmoth, Thran Physician deck, so there are some simila...

Re: [SCD] Flash

Flash + Hulk is definitely the best and in most ways hardest to deal with as far as two card combos. Getting Grand Abolisher with Protean Hulk or other suite of creatures to prevent interaction with a combo makes it very difficult to interact with. I do think it's important to reward interactive de...

Hi Sheldon. You created a way to build decks for yourself and friends to have fun in the way that you wanted, and this subsequently created a whole new format for the wider masses. For this I am most appreciative. I bet you never imagined in your wildest dreams that WoTC would be creating annual set...

Re: First thread, Ashling help

Can't go wrong with an Expedition Map instead of a Mountain (for Valukut). I'd play Koth of the Hammer . Getting that emblem with tons of Mountains would be pretty nice, and the mana abilities can be sunk into Ashling ability. Any "protection from red" works nice, so Sword of Fire and Ice ...
