Re: August CCL, Signups/Round 1: Seen When Snorkeling

I mean, I get it but also I don't get it. The character colors are all off (Squidward is not very red, and Patrick is *definitely* not blue), plus who's the human? Is that supposed to be the audience? Also way too powerful: it makes 6 power worth of tokens every upkeep no questions asked and that's...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

I considered Intentionally forfeiting the Generic Mana Sub-challenge to fit better with the god Cycle but I think this works assuming the set has Wastes and enough colourless support. Wanted to give you a heads up, because you're relatively newer to the MCC: this sort of explanation in your entry i...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

Just started judging, and I've never had to do this before, but I need a clarification as a judge: what does "could have appeared in Mirrodin" mean exactly? I.e., do all of the keywords on the card have to have existed by that point? Obviously I'm not going to disqualify someone because their card s...

Just your friendly neighborhood reminder to everyone to please keep things as civil as possible on this thread/forum. I know there can be pretty strenuous disagreements -- I've certainly had some in my time here -- and I definitely understand the impulse to get a little mean/sarcastic, but ultimatel...

Re: The CCL Discussion Thread

Yeah, my understanding is the Lorwyn giants don't have last names in the traditional sense -- for example, Brion Stoutarm and Rosheen Meanderer are siblings, so they seem to take on epithets as surnames, which is where Angus Greatfoot and Brienne Strongbow come from.

Re: The CCL Discussion Thread

Angus's daughter? I always like seeing planeswalkers' families. It also pains me to see an archer without reach. Brienne also feels very small for a Giant, both in stats and mana cost, though maybe it's because she's still a child? I also find it interesting that Angus Greatfoot's strongest feature...

Re: July CCL, Top 4: Accepting Command

The single draw ability is very strong with a lot of mechanics, but probably not busted. The Timetwister ability is harder to trigger but is maybe busted in, say, storm decks. The fact that it shuffles the graveyard into the library is a good safety valve, though, especially for, say, Past in Flame...

Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

So just to clarify: unique card names do count toward subchallenge 2? I.e., if I use a unique card name and then use that name in the rules text, it satisfies the subchallenge? Because I worried that might have been against the spirit, but your answer seemed to indicate otherwise.

Just bumping this because it seems like maybe it got missed and it's pretty important for completing that subchallenge. Multiple clarification questions on that subchallenge: 1) Did you mean to allow words within that card's name? I.e., "Frustration Bolt deals 3 damage to any target" seems like it w...

Multiple clarification questions on that subchallenge: 1) Did you mean to allow words within that card's name? I.e., "Frustration Bolt deals 3 damage to any target" seems like it would currently qualify but that might not be what you meant. 2) How do forms of existing words count? I.e. "remove" is u...

Re: The CCL Discussion Thread

@slimytrout: Double power? Try blocking. Does Vito somehow triple a creature's power in your math, since you actually gain the life? Too good for 3 mana and Rare? This is nowhere near T3feri's level. Well, even if you block (barring sacrifice shenanigans) you still take damage equal to the creature...

Re: July CCL, Top 8: Life About to Change

Static is fun but not busted, as is the plus ability. Ultimate is a bit underwhelming, especially on Turn 8+. The -3 is really where it's at, though -- it's not great if it just deals 2 damage, but 4 or 6 is very good, especially since it's to any target. Yikes, a three mana walker that comes in an...

Yeah, I don't think any of us (except maybe Ryder -- don't want to put words in their mouth) is in favor of obligating people to judge -- I outlined multiple reasons I was opposed to it in an earlier post, and I'm sure I didn't even cover all of them. And I do understand your concerns about a slippe...

Re: July CCL, Signups/Round 2: Personalized Gear

Man, this would be a confusing card. The loyalty counters are put on as a cost? And what happens when the last counter is removed from a creature? And how does damage assignment work? Just too much to keep track of. "Monocolor planeswalker" is required, so doesn't fit the challenge. Way too weak to...

bravelion83 -- I think maybe there's some confusion here. Ryder wasn't saying anything about having players judge while they're competing, nor was he referring to actually next month (i.e., August). Re: The MCC Discussion Thread

I don't think there should be an obligation to do it, for a couple reasons: 1) Given the time commitments of judging, it's not the sort of thing that should be foisted on people -- could lead to a lot of delays and unhappiness. 2) Typically the host also judges, which usually wouldn't work out if th...
